That look might work on a 14-year old Japanese girl in the Shibuya or Harajuku, but looks somewhat contrived here.

I don’t think so it is trying too hard.
The outfit is quite simple ; coat, hoodie and bag. the coat is quite a piece in itself, but for me it is quite easy/cool
