Valentino – Men’s Spring/Summer 2013

Valentino is very smart to get ahead of the crowd and be the first major brand to show SS13 at Pitti Uomo. I was surprised by how strong the collection was. The first collection was very good, and this collection strengthens the menswear voice that designers Maria and Pier are beginning to create.

I know it’s early, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that right now Valentino is the collection to beat.

I’ll be looking forward to a strong challenge coming up from Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Prada.

I’m quite excited to see what the runways hold for us over the next two weeks.

    Scott,
what do you tell me about a suit with (a good) tennis?

    Is it “wrong”?

    Thank you.

I think you are fabulous. Do you not think it may be time to denounce the use of army fatigue print ad nauseum. Are we still not war weary ?

I’m with you on that Valentino will be a stand out leader. Clean denim, the rounding of the arms and the sneakers… so different to what we have seen for a while. But at the same time you can see a progression of design from what we have had in menswear for a few seasons. Just brilliant.

Well, I’m a girl and all these jackets would look sooo good in my wrardrobe ;) especially the camouflage ones, they are gorgeous ! And the association of the sneakers with the more tailored outfits is genius so bravo valentino !

Great collection! I love how Italian men embrace fashion the way they do! Fashion is color, shapes, unexpected pairings, so when it’s done right, even us women can get great inspiration from menswear! Thanks for posting such wonderful shots!

If only the first coat wasn’t camouflage, I love the style paired with the blue pants/sneakers.
I also like the last photo : pale grey suit with tennis shoes. (And the large window showing a bit of the outside.)

I have to say I simply hate the “apercu” of this collection. The shoes look like running shoes, the coat’s cut is not suiting, military.. i personally don’t apreciate. It feels quite ordinary, a certain lack of elegance and vision, if I may
    Does anyone feel the same?

your insights carry so much weight. i am wholeheartedly with your opinions on print. why oh why do photographers and writers want to be on paper. the internet is where it’s at, and always will be. people need to get over it and move over to the web and blogging. stop buying magazines everybody: everything you need is right here. scott is so perceptive. his passion is infectious. his talent is undeiable. go sart!!!
