What a beautiful line – with the pleated, cuffed pants, two-tone shoes, gold buttons on the jacket. I especially like the shadows on his pants and on the street. Too bad about the cigarette.
Great shoes!! love how they match with his suspenders. Conscious choice to wear a pleaded pants and not a modern flat-front which would also work well for his contours..!? I like this, it reminds us of the past. Amazing style.
I like the jacket and the shoes, but not a fan of the pleated pants and the length of the hem… but to each his own I suppose. Still a slick look overall – or maybe just the hair is slick?
wonderful look. the pants are gorgeous + i love the play between suspender + shoe. i also like that his shirt is off-white, or at least looks to be so in the photo.
this outfit is amazing. the cut of the trousers, the button details on the jacket, the wide collar, all of it's working so well in my book, and it's not necessarily an obvious combination.
i'm supremely jealous of such style – i feel like you can only pull this off in europe or new york to feel comfortable. how much does he spend on his wardrobe i wonder??
1) The pomaded hair works. Compared to male styles of recent years which dictate that man should strut about with bed hair, this guy is genius.
2) Wearing pleated pants in a world that imposes social suicide penalties upon such departures from the norm bestows upon the wearer God-like status.
3) Someone said "Pity about the cigarette." The cigarette completes the entire look. You know this is a gentleman that would not bore the snot out of you with talk of sport… he's an aesthete and judging by his clothes, someone that appreciates the arts. A cigarette is a small price to pay and frankly it's a ton more appealing than weaving amongst the proletariat with a mobile phone glued to one's ear pretending to have stacks of friends that care.
4) To replicate the look does not necessarily mean one has to take out a loan. The subject may have spent a month's wage on the items but I could source each of the items for less than $300 total before sundown.
5)I am a little demoralised because the entire ensemble is exactly the sort of ensemble I was thinking of putting together for my impending summer. I hope that the sartorial Gods above will not make the look "fashionable" or "trendy."
6) Mr Schuman, you are cordially invited to cease shooting this look lest it becomes the go-go amongst trend setters and hipsters alike.
This man knows his clothes. I appreciate his cuffed trousers with no break, which is how I think they look best. I am sick of seeing men whose clothes simply don't fit correctly, and his clothes fit well and he looks great….ciggy and all.
Love, love, love, love this look. I bet we definately go from skinny pants back to pleated pants and this is definately a new take on a classic. Well done !
Pulling his pants up to the correct waist line will keep the pleats from opening up.
Unless my eyes are out of practice, The jacket looks like a 42 reg when he should be wearing a 40. I love this guys swagger. I just feel he could tune it up a bit to the right measurements.
The suspenders are marvellous! Another thing are the pleats (I hope, leo.org gave me the right term, we call it "Bundfalten" in German) – only very slim men can wear trousers with pleats and even then it's a risky thing…
It never ceases to amaze me… A man's interpretation of what a woman finds attractive in his attire is most often skewed and seldom correct… and vice versa about what women believe a man finds attractive.
EXCEPT…
…when an outfit is as timeless and classic as the one the gentleman is sporting. Comments from ladies in this blog underpin my theory.
I cannot congratulate the gentleman enough; so much so that I went on a double-pleated pant shopping spree.
Old-World elegance. I'd steal those pants and suspenders and adapt them by wearing them with a baggy white v-neck tee and some cognac brogues (I'm a girl).
Fab suspenders, equally interesting shoes. I would have liked to see this outfit in yet another photograph. Maybe him standing still. Are his slacks really that short? The hefty shirt collar and wide tie don't harmonize with the short cuff look. Not to me, anyway.
Dapper at its best! Great eye Sart and Kudos to the gentleman. As for some of the comments above, his trouser legs are not too short, this is the look! Classic, keep in mind that fashion changes with the years, not style-style is innate. The 2in cuff on the trousers bottom is suppose to emphasize the shoes and the socks to complement this well put together attire-I'm almost sure there is something going on with the socks as well (pattern?)
As for the jacket size, you look at the shoulder and sleeve length to estimate if he's wearing the correct size-shoulders and arms from here seem fine. The body of the jacket ( dart area) may just be boxy because it was cut that way or just wearer's preference. I like that the jacket is open so you can see the suspenders, I bet he had gold vintage braces on? Many thanks Sart, Hopefully this makes it to your Sartorialist
Beautiful shot, Scott- I love the pants. I find it very hard to find great dove gray trousers like this, which are really essential if you plan to wear it with a blazer. I see people in NY wearing gray pants with blazers, but they're always too dark and don't contrast enough with the jacket. Also, note how the pleats are tacked down until about an inch below the waistband- that's most likely how they don't balloon out all the time. I also like how the white in the pocket square picks up the white (MOP?) buttons, too.

You just don’t see stylish Americans with cigarettes. The cigarette is an accessory here. But I don’t think it really becomes him.
