HOT!!! …wait…no socks? love it anyways…
September 21, 2009 at 10:15 am
I would have liked this if it had looked like something he just "threw on", but somehow it looks contrived to me
September 21, 2009 at 10:17 am
Love the look, however going 100% RL can be a little much. A sawbuck says he works for the Co.
September 21, 2009 at 10:24 am
Excellent. I love the vintage Army jacket with the tie.GREAT.
September 21, 2009 at 10:25 am
Love the pant detail, the shoes, the vest, the tie. He looks great!
September 21, 2009 at 10:26 am
Very Ralph Lauren!
September 21, 2009 at 10:28 am
i don't care if he planned it or threw it on…..perfect man emsemble
Is he on his way to the cleaners for the rest of his suit? Are his socks drying over a towel bar at home?
September 21, 2009 at 10:29 am
I'm always a fan of a snappy vest.
September 21, 2009 at 10:40 am
One of the most wearable looks for the widest range of ages and body types Ive seen on this site. Well done.
September 21, 2009 at 10:43 am
This guy would look good in anything (even better in nothing I'm sure!).
September 21, 2009 at 10:45 am
very nice..very American classic

September 21, 2009 at 10:47 am
He does work for the company, as do I! That jacket sold out so fast you wouldn't believe it.
September 21, 2009 at 10:49 am
You look at the face, you see character. You look at the vest: you see tradition. You look further: you see confusion.
If we worked for RL, which I beleive he does, we would be in head to toe RL. Ditto to what Amber said.

no no no no no. He's trying way to hard.

I thoroughly enjoy cuffed pants with lace-up shoes.

September 21, 2009 at 11:05 am
This guy is ready for a cup of G.I Joe. Military issued anything to combat chilly manhattan mornings are steps in the right direction in my opinion. I love the collars and lapels working together like a bit of Flash and Thunder to spike up your attitude. R
September 21, 2009 at 11:06 am
Beautiful. I love this.
September 21, 2009 at 11:13 am
no socks :) perfect touch
How funny! I just spent last night searching for this guy true the entire blog, and here he is again. He got it better off last time though.
September 21, 2009 at 11:19 am
Very few people can pull of this picture perfect look!
September 21, 2009 at 11:24 am
I'm glad to see all of this socklessness this late in the season. Let's hope it will go furthter into the fall than last year. Maybe even into winter!!!
September 21, 2009 at 11:25 am
It is a good look, and impressive considering quite how hot it was that day for the RL show.
September 21, 2009 at 11:34 am
No, NO , is Genuine British Stile, RL copy this atmosphere. The original idea is from British people.I Like too much this man is wonderfull , every things is nice
September 21, 2009 at 11:42 am
What a handsome man..hands him some hem tape and a pair of brown cashmere dress socks…
Is his outfit planned or not? I think that when he left his socks off, it is planned, and I lost my interest. He is good looking though.
September 21, 2009 at 11:43 am
Fall may come now
September 21, 2009 at 11:52 am
rugged look love the tie + shoes they really make it 'pop'
September 21, 2009 at 11:57 am
Why can't I get my husband to dress like this.
September 21, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Why the rolled up pants and you are right…where are his socks? he looks like he came from a RL catalog, lol =)
see my Jimmy Choos at http://www.fashionsnag.com
September 21, 2009 at 12:09 pm
oh man, this is SO accessable and yet he looks like he just stepped off a Ralph Lauren ad. Wow.
September 21, 2009 at 12:12 pm
I love the fact that he's doing it without socks! that's got a major effect i guess. his ankles are so tanned.
September 21, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Who is this man? I want to marry him.
September 21, 2009 at 12:30 pm
what's w/the roll up of the pant leg? why not invest in just a bit of simple tailoring and have them shortened?
the roll up thing on guys over 18 yo is too affected for my taste.
September 21, 2009 at 1:02 pm
I want those shoes, where can i find vintage shoes like that.. most new shoes have a black sole :(
Great colour balance. But the collar, tie and tie-bar look a bit tense in this context, and all those layers above the waist tell you that this man's ankle's are cold.
September 21, 2009 at 1:05 pm
one kiss from Barcelona!
September 21, 2009 at 1:06 pm
Seems like all you have to do to get your photo here these days is roll up your pant legs!
this photo made me think- is the Satorialist responsible for the current trend in rolled-up pants?
September 21, 2009 at 1:09 pm
così semplice e così perfetto
September 21, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Jorge from Palm Beach, I'm waiting to hear from you.
September 21, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Why is everyone so hating on the rolled pant? I think it's a good way to spice up classic looks and outfits one already has without needing to buy the newest "hottest" pieces. No, it probably won't be around forever, but why not roll with it (pun intended) while it lasts? I think most of the hate comes from those who don't have the confidence to try it themselves.
September 21, 2009 at 1:46 pm
its neat how pairing classic/conservative pieces from different realms business and military, can produce a look thats both modern and daring!
I love it and think this would be a great james bon look.
September 21, 2009 at 1:56 pm
Some comment that this is so RL. It might be but I think sometimes dressing is about a feeling and if you feel like RL one day why not.
I am waiting for it to get chilly enough and I will be sporting my RL look on occasion.
September 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm
I think the roll-up thing has less to do with the ankle (who wants to see that bony hairy thing anyway) and more to do with the shoe, which it shows off to great advantage in this case, far more than it would with a traditionally hemmed pair of pants. I agree that it is incongruous with winter layers, as here, to have bare ankles. There needs to be a fall/winter way to achieve the same effect. Maybe it's time to bring back knickers and long wool argyle socks.
September 21, 2009 at 2:14 pm
i love this look! especially the turned up trousers and the green patterned tie-it brings the whole look together :) <3 the shoes too
September 21, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Javi C.I am charmed with the neck of his(her, your) shirt, the width of the tie and contrast of the jacket with the huntress.I would not dare to take the trousers like that.Good photo. For when the book in Spain '

September 21, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Grrrreat. Loves this. Urban landlord.
September 21, 2009 at 3:10 pm
On the rolled pant look: my theory is that you should only roll them if your shoes are twice as nice as your pants.
When I am wearing jeans with amazing sneakers or flashy wingtips I would roll.
It wouldn't make sense to roll a pair of 200 trousers only to show off a boring pair of shoes.
Whats everyone else theory?
September 21, 2009 at 3:29 pm
This is a confused look.
Boots would go better with the combat-style jacket (looks like Italian issue from late 1990s)and the rolled trouser cuffs. A vest without lapels, perhaps a suede one, would present a better line because of the large lapel of the jacket. Alternately, a combat jacket would look good over over suit, especially if worn with an informal but brimmed hat.
September 21, 2009 at 4:01 pm
love the top portion, but i dont like the rolled up pants…
Hadley Gets Crafty
September 21, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I love the vest and lack of socks in combination!
September 21, 2009 at 4:08 pm
so handsome and sexy.
September 21, 2009 at 4:16 pm
September 21, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Rolled pants kill it. It's casual but cool weather. The vest works nicely with lapels, the open spread collar is a great formal contrast, but why roll the pants above the bluchers? Ruins an otherwise great mix of classic elements in a striking casual look.
Wish I could slick my hair back like that without looking like guido.
September 21, 2009 at 4:28 pm
top half… I DIE I DIE!i would have preferred it with a straight clean pant myself
The Clever Pup
September 21, 2009 at 4:29 pm
He really should leave his laundry to the professionals. His jacket and vest is miles too small.
September 21, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Even if his clothes are little wrinkled and disheveled, he still seems to be trying too hard. Love the shoes though
September 21, 2009 at 4:34 pm
I don't care for the exposed ankles, but otherwise it is indeed unmistakably RL – the whole outfit: shirt, tie, vest, jacket, pants, shoes, look just as fresh and current as they looked 20 years ago – the beauty of Ralph Lauren.
September 21, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Pants should only be rolled when there is a functional purpose, such as riding a bike or walking through puddles. This man looks silly and overdone.
Armilyn and David
September 21, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Way too affected. I did the rolled up trouser 20 years ago, back in middle- and high-school. This guy looks older than me, so he probably did it as well. You know the rule–you're only allowed to do it once, like bell-bottoms.
He also needs a wider tie and bigger knot. A four-in-hand never works with a spread collar.
September 21, 2009 at 5:01 pm
The hunting vest under the farm coat is perfection. In Washington, we sometimes see stylish gentlemen like him who come in from the horse-country nearby.
However, the pants rolled up at the ankle shows he's trying too hard. It's not raining, so what's he doing?
September 21, 2009 at 5:25 pm
The military jacket seems a tad small on him, as does the vest. The rolled up cuffs make his pants appear to fit poorly as well.
I've seen this look, but done right, in a photograph of Humphrey Bogart and he wore it with flair.
September 21, 2009 at 6:13 pm
September 21, 2009 at 6:59 pm
This is the same guy that pulled off the double breasted navy blazer with a pink shirt and jeans with the velvet slippers! I would put money on it!
September 21, 2009 at 7:04 pm
He looks like he just arrived back on his time machine…where has he been??? I absolutely adore it!!!
September 21, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Gorgeous. LOVE the waistcoat. The shade is perfect as is the texture! Xxxc
September 21, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Love the colour scheme and "English country with a twist of preppy college" look. Stripy or argyle socks (Burlington!) would have been a welcome addition.
September 21, 2009 at 8:21 pm
incredible!!! Looks a little like John Malkovich
September 21, 2009 at 8:22 pm
All looks a bit confused to me. The shirt/vest/jacket combo would indicate that it is cold. So why would you have bare ankles?
Don't get me wrong. I like rolled slacks and the sockless look but only when the weather dictates this.
September 21, 2009 at 8:24 pm
I had a long post written but forget it: if you don't understand any part of this, you don't understand where men's style is right now, or possible, where it's always been. But seriously guys, how does that vest not fit? It frightens me to think people think anything on this guy doesn't fit.

I know for sure that this kind of look will never be photographed by any other 'streetstyle fashion blogger' than you.
The Khaki Crusader
September 21, 2009 at 10:36 pm
i get a kick out of people knocking things like knot size of tie and rolled pants. with him, dissecting is missing the point — This guy loves a little drama when he gets dressed and he's clearly enjoying himself. i think he looks pretty damn good and we should just enjoy it for what it is. i believe this is the same guy who wore the DB, rolled jeans and velvet slippers. what more could RL ask for in an employee than this guy? you see him on the street and think, hmm, i need a piece of that look, im going to Polo.
September 21, 2009 at 10:46 pm
his pants look like they were bought from kohl's or some discount store sale. perhaps because they are so wrinkly…? but the vest and pop of blue shirt is great
September 21, 2009 at 11:02 pm
I remember him distinctly from your book!
September 22, 2009 at 12:03 am
Very well put together outfit but whats with the cuffs on the pants?… Makes him look like a school boy who has had a growth spurt.
September 22, 2009 at 12:15 am
He looks great… from the knees up.
September 22, 2009 at 1:08 am
Sorry, Sart. Everything is great excecpt the cuffs. I'm not going there.
September 22, 2009 at 1:48 am
Awesome.I think this is one time where I would prefer it if he didnt cuff his pants.
September 22, 2009 at 1:52 am
I believe the collar to be out of place. While I do find the costume to be quite lovely, the shirt is suffering anachronism or a culture clash.
September 22, 2009 at 3:01 am
September 22, 2009 at 4:04 am
Brilliantly put together but any hint of spontaneity undermined by the tense facial expression. Poor guy looks uncomfortable.
September 22, 2009 at 4:56 am
Stop your nitpicking. All pieces have a sense of congruence with eachother (fit perfect too) and it's obvious he put thought into making it work together. He may look slightly tense in the photo, but you know he gets joy from it all. He knows how he looks.
If he wore army boots and a cap he would look overdressed, like steampunk (cool, but would push the whimsy way over subtle). Here he is completely dressing appropriately for the time and space he is in. Well done.
September 22, 2009 at 5:23 am
Great ensemble but I think the sockless look is way too affected.
September 22, 2009 at 8:06 am
Most people don't try hard enough. Some don't try at all. Some put all their energy into looking like they didn't try and it just magically came together. Why is putting thought and effort into one's outfit a bad thing ?!
September 22, 2009 at 8:48 am
Love the fatigue jacket. Inspires me to think how to pair my new j. crew fatigue jacket. The only thing that looks a bit daft to me is the cheap-looking pair of khakis. Top half of this guy looks expensive but the pants half looks like a Walmart knockoff. And then you've got the great shoes. Upgrade the trousers just slightly and lose the roll (though a small cuff just at the shoe would look good) and this is about perfect.
September 22, 2009 at 9:34 am
Of course the look is planned. The moment you pick out matching socks or tie you have done just that. Lets face it, would we all be reading this blog if we were not interested in carefully considered clothing? Contrived is another matter. Was contrived? Maybe if Scott asked him to take his socks off or roll his pants it would be. I might normally suspect this but again I come to this blog to see the people doing things a little differently then the average man on the street. I like the look, even if I don't have the confidence to pull it off in my little town.
September 22, 2009 at 1:50 pm
The hell with the look, this guy is just hot. I would look at him no matter what he wore.
September 22, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Way too much thought went into this outfit.
September 22, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Nice, but for the rolled up Khakis. That's a trend I'm happy not to follow.
September 22, 2009 at 7:17 pm
First time commenter… The pants could perhaps be more fitter to pull off the look better but the no-socks thing doesn't make sense here …. he's dressed for a cool autumn day… You figure he'd wear some socks also… The no socks thing to me is definitely a summer look
September 22, 2009 at 9:46 pm
it IS perfect RL. If people think it looks too contrived than they haven't seen a Ralph Lauren print ad!..or walked into 72nd and madison!
I take it for what it is. I personally don't the no socks here, despite the season. Maybe he just didn't have time to put on socks when rushing to get out the door!
Also….I think you have an obsession with these green toggle coats, Sart!…or maybe its not you and its just a trend which you created through your photos and now everyone's doing it! Haha.
September 22, 2009 at 10:57 pm
okay: i like the look but all together it definitely looks overly staged and not natural. Really like the top half with the layering and well fitted look, but really it does look strange to do the cuffed pants with no socks and then wear such cold weather attire on the top half. all looks good just a bit tooo much like he came out of the catalog..
September 23, 2009 at 1:06 am
Great Fall look. Love the no socks, wing tips always look better without them. Vest fits perfectly. Like the more traditional full cut chinos. Rolling them up is a necessity, unless they're cropped or tapered chinos look sloppy with dressier shoes.
September 23, 2009 at 2:46 am
Too layered. Good colour scheme though.
September 23, 2009 at 3:48 am
He needs a cigar.
September 23, 2009 at 8:43 am
Yup, its a fact that guy works for Ralph Lipschitz himself.
September 23, 2009 at 9:18 am
love the look and the no socks!
September 23, 2009 at 9:36 am
this doesn't look like a style he is very comfortable wearing. Not natural. Love the pieces, tho…the vest, the shoes!
September 23, 2009 at 9:50 am
Great look. Who cares about the no socks, rolled cuffed, etc….Just enjoy the photo
September 23, 2009 at 10:18 am
Lucky man,i would have liked this.He has the style and inded the work
September 23, 2009 at 11:38 am
pretty good, dont like the spread collar for this look though, great vest , great jacket , great palette .. the pants should be slimmer… it was a bit hot that day so ill let him slide with the rollup sockless part.
September 24, 2009 at 1:20 am
HEs KINDA KILLING IT… the roll, what can you do.. its hip, but the vest with an M65 is a good lookhttp://WWW.MISTERMORT.COM
September 24, 2009 at 6:48 am
wow this guy really know how to command a picture! i love his fierce look. and his outfit is really impressive!the jacket makes me feel like he used to serve in the army though. esp. with the hard expression on his face.but i love this
September 24, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Love except for the green trench.
September 24, 2009 at 1:10 pm
before I even saw the title, I knew it was all Polo
September 27, 2009 at 8:27 pm
it's just too costumey for me, but he looks as if he believes in it so that helps
March 25, 2010 at 9:28 am
Looks OK until you scroll down – fella's not wearing any socks – he's even rolled up his trousers to advertise the fact – plain silly! Also problem with sweaty feet . . .
March 25, 2010 at 4:56 pm
love his watch, an omega speedmaster !
May 4, 2012 at 11:44 am
Ralph Lauren never looked better… hey body, aren´t you single?
May 7, 2013 at 9:54 am
jesus wow, this is awsome, love it,the colors is amazingly balanced
June 1, 2014 at 7:33 pm
My opinion, his vest is too short.
