It will always be a delightful experience to sit in a cafe in Paris, watch the scenary, take pictures and watch out whats trendy, and whats hot! Found out this morning whats hot for this new season that already arrived in nyc (its coldddd, already) in jewelry, its gorgeous: creativity and an enchanted forrest collection: http://www.mercedessalazar.com/
Those grey shoes are amaaaaaazing…as is the Max Mara Coat – very much in line with a Michael Kor's coat recently shown in Vogue – photo is cut and hanging on idea board for inspiration..
Tonight I will be dreaming I am also sitting at one of those tables one day - And tomorrow - And the day after tomorrow - And the day after the day after tomorrow…etc. etc.
Sart, I have a question – when you and Garance are out together and you spot an interesting subject, do the two of you squabble over who gets to take their picture? I like to think it's a fun competition for you both!
Also, just picked up your book and I love, love, love it. Congratulations.
I never quite understood the allure of those pajama pants, but now I get it! I get it! I am dying for those pants! Worn with that blazer they look much less like sleep clothes and more like chic trousers.
I LOVE the shoe shot. It's fantastic. Particularly after seeing how gracefully the woman in Converse is dressed and holds herself, the shot is even more striking. And I love her shoe practicality contrasted with the other lady's shoe elegance. Fantastique!
I adore the Parisien cafe culture, designers waiting for their coffee. Fashionistas are more than likely to be grabbing a coffee to go, when the fashion week is on!
Cafe culture has always been one of the most interesting things to do in Paris…to see and be seen…check out what other people wear…admire those long legs…drool over a derriere… Life at its best.
very funny shots. The lady in your first pisc elegant and nice. Garance is very enjoine, and Viviane i dont like. you are the best Scott, vip naming droping
On the left it seems like the "Dolce & Gabanna men's pijama inspired collection" from this year. I like the layering w/ the Converses. Mlle. Garance's coat is just perfect, always beautiful. It goes to prove that personality is far more important when it comes to make fashion worth.
if that's what people watching is like from a parisian cafe', sign me up. these woman look so interesting and chic. garance's coat is darling; very casual the way she's wearing it over a gray sweater.
Gorgeous shots. Thank you. I wish I had beautiful legs like your friend with the grey shoes! Shame about the pyjama pants – I know they're D&G or someone like that – plus spotty socks plus sneakers???!!!
what amazing pictures! i love seeing your eye, your presence in the photos … please post more photos like these! You make me feel like I'm there, in Paris.
Maybe the french service is bad and the french people rude, sceptical, ironical and not very smiling (that's for sure!). But remember, it's Europe with a heavy and complex history, and not USA which is somekind of nursery in comparison. That makes the people different and interesting, don't you think? ;-)
I like the documentary-style photography, but cmon Sart, you're beginning to sound like Gossip Girl. This is supposed to be a street fashion blog, not a day in the life of the rich & famous. I'm worried posts like these will ultimately lose your most important readers..
For Anon 2:13 if anything i am getting back to street style even more. I have passed through the big fashion media (aka Style.com) and have be able to afford to follow my heart and shoot want i want.
I spent the rest of that day on the Left Bank and not at the shows The only way to prove this is to keep coming back and seeing the diversity of places I'm visiting.
How great it was meeting you and Garance at Colette in Paris last Saturday. What a stylish, kind lovely couple of photographers you are :-) Bonne sejour!
I absolutely love this! I would read an entire blog with Left, Front, Right accounts from your daily life. It's a really amazing way to feel perspective. Garance looks fantastic as usual and the photos are just so beautiful. I just bought your book, by the way, and it's already dog-eared! Thank you!
You obviously seem to be in good company – but I like the woman in the PJs reading (some kind of book not a blackberry) and pleading for coffee best! Oh, why can't a café in Paris not be my living-room??
Your post about your father is definitely my # 1, but this one is one of the best ever. I enjoyed this one in particular because of the different moments in one setting. Also, in this one you haven't lost the fashion-touch.
Things I love about the woman in the first 3 pictures.
1. the tux jacket 2. the hugh hefner pants 3. the socks 4. the shoes (with this outfit) 5. her hair 6. her manicure 7. her expression in the second shot 8. the fact that she doesn't know she's being photographed 9. her radiant beauty.
Oh to live in a climate in which a sleeveless coat is even a possibility…I'm so interested that you're about to go to Korea. I don't know if this is actually true, but when I lived there many years ago I recall that Korean women were obsessed with the fact that Western women have long legs ("long dal-ee" as I remember). Korean women tend to be a bit shorter and with shorter legs. I was told that this is why they obsessively wear/wore heels, even when hiking! (Seriously, I did see the latter in the mountains in and around Kyong-Ju.) You'll have to let us know.
Firstly, the first lady up there looks like someone that's just returned from an extended holiday in Asia where people order like that. I am sorry but if I'm going to beg for food, I expect the staff to beg for me to pay the bill – on their knees. Order with conviction; begging is not European.
Secondly, I like a tuxedo blazer worn casually but dislike her silk slacks worn with sneakers.
Sneakers are for the gym or jogging. A Parisian cafe' deserves more.
I was having lunch there on the sunday. Lara Stone was no only sitting the table right next to me but also she was eating the famous cheeseburger of the Castglione with a normal coke! Healthy models :) The photos are amazing!
Her pants are fantastic! I never thought I'd see someone pull off pajama-esque pants so elegantly. The only thing I'm not crazy about, is her manicure. The black nail tips caught me off guard and for a minute I thought she had dirty fingernails!
Whenever I leave a negative response it is never printed. (I complained yesterday about the idea Flore being loaded down with fashionistas. I admit Flore was historically full of fashionistas of ideas.)
I think your blog would be more interesting to run the negatives as well as the "oh my God, where can I get those shoooooesss?"
I send enough complimentary ones, after all.(And I am only anon. because it's such a hassle to get a tag.)
The first lady's name is Uberta and she is a milanese fashion/design consultant. Tha slacks ARE pyjama pants. The grey shoes are Luisa Beccaria. Voilà!
oh goodness… love this "fly on the wall", birdseye view of the fascinating life you live. Thank you for sharing! (Garance looks perfectly lovely in that gorgeous coat!)
Anon 8:41 AM, just roll with the punches, mate. Probably half the stuff I type never sees the light of Scott's blog.
I understand his position though. He's photographing personal friends at times and he can't necessarily allow raw criticism. It would otherwise seem as though he condones and agrees to the less-than-charitable sentiments.
it's great that garance has gone and gotten her coat just like she said she would. the gal definitely knows what she wants and i love her for that.
also the pyjama pants from Dolce & Gabbana, wow, i never thought that one could wear those in public with such grace. maybe it's because i have a recurring nightmare where i come to work with pyjamas :) those nightmares won't be so disturbing anymore and i won't psychoanalyze myself over them as long as i can achieve this look in my subconcious. note to self: look at these pictures before going to bed every night
how amazing it is to be in your shoes! soon, when i grow up, i hope to get a job similar to yours. :P in the meantime, thanks for sharing your experiences.
and yes, your book is totally inspiring. but some of the images i like weren't included. the sartorialist vol. 2 perhaps?
Service in Madrid is even worse. All my non-spanish friends (and my self, despite being spanish myself and used to that) agree on it. if you don't shout at the waiter/barman, you won't be able to order in most of cafeterias. On the other hand, I had already seen those Pj's on a celebrity and I found them ridiculous. Glad that an anonymous lady surprisingly made them work. She really has style!
That polka dot pant (I gess it's part of dolce gabanna's pijama suit) doesn't look bad on her… but I cannot believe that someone spends a great amount of money on this pant, she'll wear it only once or twice.
The Max Mara coat is awesome, as the faux leopard scarf. I NEED TO GET ONE!.

I was having lunch there on the sunday. Lara Stone was no only sitting the table right next to me but also she was eating the famous cheeseburger of the Castglione with a normal coke! Healthy models :) The photos are amazing!

Oh to be sitting in a Parisian cafe watching the stylish world go by – you have such a way of capturing the right moment.
All these people look soo chic and laid back.

Her pants are fantastic! I never thought I'd see someone pull off pajama-esque pants so elegantly. The only thing I'm not crazy about, is her manicure. The black nail tips caught me off guard and for a minute I thought she had dirty fingernails!

With this post you really made me want to move to Paris, having a glass of chablis at the local cafè. Ah. Thanks!

Voilà!

Thank you Scott.

The idea of "the pause café photo shoot" is just genius : please more !
Love the praising lady in D&G silky dotty navy pyjama pants, adore the Garance picture.
Creativity, love & ambition do grow when shared, must be part of the reason why your couple is so magic ! You both emulates each other perfectly.
