You should take more pictures of the "gothninja look". I love this style and his is no exception. I love how he is able to combine different shades of black(especially that cardigan <3) and topping it off by contrasting it with the white from his Rick Owens high tops!
Will have to check out Rick Owens in NYC next month. Love the way the white soles caught my attention first and the laces drew my eye up to the layers of black. Very nice!!
Enjoyed meeting you in DC Monday at Masa14, thanks for coming!
I just received The Sartorialist, book version. It is perfect, so many of my favorite shots mixed with new ones to discover in a compact size yet generous with photos. Having the mirror of your website in book form is awesome because now I don't have to print out my favorite shots to put up on my bulletin board. It's a complete reflection of the eye of the photographer. Now if only we can have Garance's book.
omg he looks really amazing—i saw these shoes before and looked at the price i almost cried cause i can't afford it. but they are amazing and expensive
Maybe I'm too old to understand the Gothninja look (37- though I def get goth), but when I see this look- I can't help it- I immediately see Dylan Klebold. Maybe if there hadn't been a Columbine I'd see the Matrix, but something about it just evokes – depressed person hiding himself under big coat. Sorry. I'm sure the sneakers are the latest, edgiest shoes though.
Lovely top half, ruined by the bottom half. I find it hard to praise those shoes or trousers; there's nothing elegant or attractive about them, they just serve to make him look a little more like a spaceman.
wow this photo totally brings me back to NY. By the way, the new museum is amazing for anyone who is interested in contemporary art.
As for the laceless comment about the hi tops, that does look good but I didn't want to break the shoes in like that.
thx for the photo Mr S. good memories. ps. the gothninja comment is also very fitting, I think I was planning to do a lot of walking that day which is why I wore the trackies for practical reasons. :)
Great picture, I like how sparse the architecture of the building is, it provides the perfect background, with all that glass! Love the sneakers, although I have long had a pet peeve with boots that have all those laces AND THEN have a zipper on the side, like these ones. Shall we have laces OR a zipper? It feels like cheating- a designer should be true to the garment, and wouldnt it be funny if a corset or a bustier had all those intricate laces that were originally designed to drive a lover crazy, but then it had a zipper for a quickie? No, no, no
I like the clothes, they go well with a slim person. The bag, IMHO, would be better on a woman, typically I like more structured bags for men, but I have to agree that it goes with the outfit. Jorge from WPB
Everyone comments about the kicks (which are very cool) but the pants are amazing with the shoes! The black fabric on the thighs and being tucked in to the top of his sneakers is the key to the ensemble in my unjustified opinion.
Are those pockets as long as they appear to be, or is that just a shadow? It looks like he could fit wine bottles in them! It also looks like there are big patches on the front of pants, and then some black fabric behind the legs…there's all kinds of crazy stuff going on here! It's deceptively simple, all these dark colors.
wow, it really does nothing for me at all. Like being draped with so many Hefty bags while wearing Robert Smith's hightops. sorry Jeff, I'm sure you're a swell guy.
"Black is kind of boring. I see so many people wearing black as if it's meant to look dressy. Kind of a lack of imagination."
it actually takes effort to match black on black on black if you want to do it right like this gentlemen here. not all black are the same as some black carries with it a tinge of green or tinge of blue or tinge of purple, etc. then you also have to consider texture and fabric. so one has to be careful to get the right types of black together.
when done right, it looks like he just threw a bunch of blacks together, but done wrong, he probably wouldn't have made it on the sartorialist blog to begin with.
Adore this photo for the contrast in the dark masculine colours and the glass/steel/cement background with the softness of the bag and jersey material, his expression and cupid bow lips!
the bag is by a little new zealand label called deadly ponies. you can find them on http://deadlyponies.com/ i had way too much stuff in it on the day, it is not meant to be that full looking normally fyi.
