Greta Garbo…”I want to be alone!”.
April 30, 2019 at 5:17 pm
This exact comment went through my head as I gazed upon the closed gesture, pursed lips and plastic gloves.
May 3, 2019 at 6:45 am
Ok with that! :)

She is beautiful, uncompromising and chic — and with the essential odd detail that makes the shot poetic and fascinating.

It would be nice if someone could give her a new coat and some warm gloves.
April 30, 2019 at 5:28 pm
With all due respect, I guess you mean to sound thoughtful, but your comment reads patronizing and condescending. I think her coat is amazing, it is worn out beautifully and… her gloves? Dear Kristin, they are not for the cold but for microbes, infections and the like, it is a dangerous world after all…
May 7, 2019 at 6:26 am
Agree….I couldn’t fathom that comment at all…..Oh Well…I personally think she looks incredible!
May 2, 2019 at 9:09 am
Maybe she values that coat precisely because it is old and those gloves because they are so special.
Money buy new things but they don’t buy happiness. And in case you were wondering, not everybody is poor in Italy. It is just that people, specially the elders, know what life really is about.
May 5, 2019 at 1:03 pm
Her coat is a very fashionable and beautiful piece, and her gloves probably serve a purpose. And I agree. You are most likely not anywhere near as interesting and chic as she is. The coat is seriously gorgeous, and I don’t even get your point there.
May 7, 2019 at 6:24 am
100% agree with your reply

She probably just bought vegetables at the supermarket. When you buy vegetables at the supermarket in Italy, you have to wear those plastic gloves to handle them for hygiene reasons.
April 30, 2019 at 3:51 pm
This is the best image I’ve seen in a long time. Elegant, restrained and protected with those perfect and effective gloves. She does not care what you think and I applaud her. She is saying “penasate a fatti vostri” mind your own business. Viva Milano.
May 1, 2019 at 2:41 pm
With my all respect, your comment is the MOST snob, pedantic and surreal thing that I have read for a long time.!!!,
Come on mates , come on!!!!
May 1, 2019 at 8:16 pm
Dai Antonio! Accetto le tue critiche anche se forse anche tu sei un po’ snob. Invece di criticare i commenti perché non ci dici se la foto ti piace o no? Che ne pensi? Io la trovo -
in inglese adesso- refreshing and unpretentious! Ciao,
May 3, 2019 at 6:34 pm
where is your anger coming from Antonio?
May 1, 2019 at 2:47 pm
Comon sense please !!!!!
I am amazed reading some subrealistic coments about this shot…..
April 30, 2019 at 5:13 pm
No masks, no artificial poseses, finally true street and life. Thoese plastic, transparent gloves are like symbol of poverty which very often touches old people (who we will become in a few years). Mr Sartorialist I like this social turn in your photos, you can use them like a changing-sth-factor? The context of fashion blog broadens their understanding.
May 5, 2019 at 1:09 pm
You don’t know anything about her. So stop judging. It should be obvious the gloves are not useful against cold. We don’t KNOW WHY she is wearing them. People would be well advised to stick their social conscience up their rear ends. This is interesting, and looks interesting, and we have no idea what she needs them for. Her hair is very well cared for, and sunglasses are expensive. Stop trying to ring that bell.
April 30, 2019 at 10:27 pm
I hope you offered her renumeration for her image. She is beautiful, but I am worried about her.
May 2, 2019 at 8:13 am
Αgain, as I said to Kristin, this is patronizing and condescending, but also borderline disrespectful.

Maybe she’s just moisturizing her hands.
May 1, 2019 at 4:35 am
She looks so miserable; is she just cold and needs some gloves or ???
May 1, 2019 at 4:35 pm
She looks elegant and very beautiful, but also, as if she didn’t want to be photographed…
May 1, 2019 at 4:38 pm
She has beautiful hair! And the sunglasses look great on her. Hard to notice with the odd attire.
May 1, 2019 at 10:30 pm
This image has left me in total awe. It conveys so many things. Beauty, elegance, pain. Twists and turns life takes. Remaining true to oneself. True art. Thank you!
May 2, 2019 at 1:42 am
What I see is a woman walking to or from while protecting her hands. Cuticle oil perhaps? After all she does have pockets to use if keeping her hands warm were the intention.
May 2, 2019 at 11:25 am
It’s always interesting to me when people project an entire back story on the subject of a photograph, particularly if the subject is older, seemingly low income, or expressing what some might interpret as an unpleasant demeanor. A photograph is literally a moment frozen in time. For all we know, this lady was smiling and laughing two seconds after this photo was snapped. Those plastic gloves may be protecting a fresh manicure. Her hair is styled, she’s wearing stylish sunglasses, she’s most likely just fine.
May 3, 2019 at 2:48 am
Yeah well, someone had to say it better than I did. Thanks JV, spot on.
May 3, 2019 at 6:35 pm
finally someone with common sense! thank you JV
May 3, 2019 at 10:44 pm
I’m with you and John from Philly, JV. Looking at this Lovely, I suspect she doesn’t want to ruin a fresh mani. she looks to well cared for to be wearing plastic gloves sans something warmer if she so desired. It’s nice our little family to express concern, though.

Badass lady. Love the coat!
May 7, 2019 at 2:38 am

Do you really think that a perfectly groomed woman with hairdressing, with Tom Ford’s glasses, and a coat of around € 1000, if not brand, if not more, need financial help? Sure, silly me, the clothes are not this season !!! Let’s do a collection !!!
May 9, 2019 at 4:42 pm
the coat is worn out and not her size, 1000 eu? really? so is the bag. Tom Ford glasses? oh please.. where do you guys living? Mars?
May 4, 2019 at 6:35 am
Everyone needs to calm down a bit, she is most likely just coming from the market or grocer. In Italy it is simply bad manners to touch fruit and vegetables with your bear hands. As for the shot itself, Scott is, it seems, always in the right place at the right time.. with a keen eye to juxtapose just so; brilliantly conveying the life, fashion and culture of any given place he visit.
P.S I love Jenny and Charlie, more of them please and thank you:)
May 6, 2019 at 9:17 am
Anita…of all the comments above, you’re the ONLY one that hit the nail on the head…in many countries around the Med it is indeed bad manners to touch fruit and vegetables with bare hands and there are plastic gloves to slip on and pick ones choice!

I was reading the comments and feeling torn. Finally cleared up about the gloves which were a strange thing in an otherwise very put together outfit. Wow. We really need to stop haranguing each other.

May 7, 2019 at 5:51 pm
Simply beautiful indeed…
I am loving the brick wall/tan jacket, the white on the wall/column/hair and yet the reflective values of the gloves and sunglasses is focal.
Scott, I am so glad you got this shot. It hit the sweet spot!

This is newest fashion for old ladies but in Malaysia nobody wears these types of outfit.

Nice To See amazing fashion for old ladies

I think this is one of the your best photos lately, I am really surprised of the comments, I love it because of the contrast .
It has all kind of contrasts, the hair with the coat, the gloves that makes us curious etc, love it to the end.

I’ll contact her if I need a serial killer…

I wear gloves like this when I dye fabrics. She could have been doing a number of things. People need to stop judging ugh.
It´s all about you
