Lakes have a very special charm to me. I don’t know much about Lake Como, but it looks very interesting through your pictures. I live quite near Lake Garda: I think you should see it one time or another!
I think the one with the woman at the table may be my favorite Sartorialist photo I’ve ever seen. That’s the picture of how I feel in Italy. It’s beautiful.
Beautiful. Thanks Scott. It is cloudy and rainy in Melbourne Australia now, but your photos really brighten up the day. Let me know when you are in Melbourne – I will buy you lunch or dinner and a few drinks so we could chat about the same inspiring subjects that your work is all about.
I live in Milan and I often go to Como (55 minutes by train and you arrive straight in front of the lake, then you can choose to stay in town or take a boat both stunning experiences). I go there in every season and I love it. The atmosphere, the breeze, the lake, even the air you breath there is different, positive. Thanks for the photos :)
Great pictures! Thank you. Who is that hunk driving the boat?
I have a friend who once had an apartment on Lake Como. You could lie in her black tub in the morning, with the window open, and hear the aliscafo (hovercraft) arrive from across the lake. There were great crashings of water as you lay there, wondering whether the coffee was ready yet. Having grown up in the American Midwest, this riot of sensory pleasure was a revelation to me, as indeed was the whole of Italy.
The most tranquil place I know. One of my best memories is of being on the deck of a lovely hotel in Varenna, watching the ferry make its way from one Lake Como village to the next, surrounded by the smell of the honeysuckle bushes that separated our deck from the neighbor’s. That was six years ago. I wear Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella Caprifoglio (Honeysuckle) during the summer to remind myself of that amazing experience.
