I think red can go with a hell of a lot more than people give credit for. Loving the purple/ mauve combo.

I have always thought that burgundy and red would clash but I really like this combination. Might have to start branching out… :)

It’s quite surprising, I don’t think I would try it as I don’t like red, but it looks really nice on men.

I LOVE purple and red. Purple is my favourite pseudo neutral. It really goes with a lot of colours .. I am wearing purple pants now, actually (from the Banana Republic collaboration with L’Wren Scott … sighhhh … may she rest in peace. Sigh…)

I love these colours together. It seems improbable, but you can find this colour combination in nature – look up photos of the Royal Purple Smoke bush…on overcast days you can really see that it has bright red veins running through purple/maroonish leaves. A magical bush! A magical colour combo. Lovely photo.

Back in the early 70′s I had a dress with just this color combination. It was a short trapeze dress in red-orange jersey with purple banding on the neck and sleeves. I loved it!

As an art teacher who works color allllllll day, I’ve known about this combo for years! Now the secret is out! It’s one of the best.

I wore this combo sometimes this winter (red trousers, purple coat, quite like the right hand picture) but found it rather strong, as both are full colors with very few black-white-gray-components – at the end of the day I had the impression that all people stared at me frowning at the fashion accident I was wearing. not easy to pull off, this combination.

I feel surprised and flattered that it is now ennobled by a Sartorialist blogpost :-)
