Love the COMMON by Common Affairs, bomber jacket the girl on the right is wearing. Probably the best one I’ve seen yet since the Markaware, and Helmut Lang one from years back. There are so many ma-1 bomber style jackets coming out these few years, yet so little actually look nice, in my opinion at least.

I love the shoes on the right! They are platform kiltie loafers!!! They are amazing, and adding so much both of the 50′s and modern to the outfit.

      Hey Stan,

Thanks you so much for your kind. words about our Arvid Bomber jacket. Its one of our favourite pieces and one which we have had in our collection for 4 seasons now. The girl to the right is doing it so much justice, we simply love her style.

That’s what I love about frehch stylish girls (if this two are even french, they look french), they make it look easy and fun, not caring too much.

The green shoes are great, and a simple black mini does wonders!!

    Thanks for the cute pics,

    Jana H.

Its a two way sipper. many quality articles of clothing have them. That way you can unzip from the bottom, like if you want to sit down in a longer coat and such.

thinking what’s happening in menswear is a more influential force in fashion right now than women’s….vis a vis this 50′s look observation of yours. 50′s, viewed through the nostalgic lense of the 70′s/ 80′s

I’m always thinking of a 1950s feel! I channel James Dean when I cannot figure out what to wear.

From an old fart who was around during the 50s: the blouse on the woman on viewers’ left appears 50s-ish and certainly the anklets on the right are a trimmer reflection of the bobby socks that were worn w straight legged – but not tight – cuffed jeans (so proportionately right for the current tight jeans). Otherwise, there are echoes from parts of the mid-60s into about 1967 or so pictured here more than from the 50s.

Yes. When people say 50′s, they usually mean the actual 60′s.

think it’s great, simply cannot see myself heading back to conventional showers anymore

This did not look so very 50′s to me, and I tried to think what was missing. I think in the 50′s we had the look of the “tough girl” but mixed somehow with an innocence. The tight jeans and loafers would often be worn with a fuzzy sweater with a crisp collar that buttoned on. And the big jacket belonged to your boyfriend.

    • Martine

      January 21, 2014 at 4:15 pm

Yes, they are not trying to be in 50′s costume, just taking some visual cues from the 50′s to make a modern look.

Honestly I don’t like these outfits. The shoes of the girl of the left photo are really unflattering and the white socks of the girl of the right one… no, but I like her jeans.

The girl on the left in the denim jacket has such a wonderful beautiful face. And even besides her own beauty there’s some uncanny resemblance in her face, hair, poise to Sandrine Bonnaire; especially Sandrine in A Nos Amours and also Vagabond. Something ephemeral around the eyes. So many things about this girl, especially the way she does her hair, epitomize the assuredness in their own beauty that the best French girls have. The ones that make everyone think “ooh, French!” when encountering that same bearing wherever they meet it. I hope to God I end up with a girl that has some of her traits.

To me, this isn’t really 50′s. It’s more 80′s (albeit the 80′s take on the fifties). It reminds me of the Buffalo/Jamie Morgan look, the loafers, the short denim and bomber jacket, the turn ups. I really like it but then it reminds me of my youth…
