I wish I could find a cozy, good looking, sturdy sweater like this one. This man seems comfy and warm with different layers of clothes and cowboy boots, (I think.)
But, what made me smile was the happy dog who seems to have a matching moustache with his master !
The reflections in the puddle of water add a nice touch to this photo.

Hi there Sevan,
Beth is right.
As a huge Big Lebowski fan, I abide with her statement (I did name my blog after a famous quote from the movie, although it was technically “*beep* Dude, let’s go bowling”.
I’ve always wanted to purchase this sweater but I feel it wouldn’t go well with my complexion, so instead, this year I’ll get meself a dark lopapeysa.
Here are some links where you can actually buy your own “Dude” sweater:
(as the link mentions it, it’s made to order, so send in your measurements! However the price has gone up since last year…)
(at 80s tees, it seems there’s only size Large left, if it’s your size then you’re in luck!)
(this one features buttons instead of a zipper, “if you’re not into the whole brevity thing” harharhar!)
You can also do some research on ebay by looking for “Cowichan sweater” or “Pendleton Dude Sweater”, since Pendleton created the original one in the 70s.
A look back from the Pendleton blog: http://blog.pendleton-usa.com/2011/09/30/the-dude-cardigan-abides/
Hope this was helpful!
“Shomer Shabbos!” (it is actually Shabbat)

Thanks Nana for the ton of infos !

You can also buy it brand new from Pendleton directly, as they have just re-released the sweater (though, in a different color) on their catalogue page: http://www.pendleton-usa.com/product/Men/SWEATERS/SWEATERS/WESTERLEY-CARDIGAN/171059/sc/1727/c/1727/pc/1814.uts?selectedColorCode=2060

Found some similar knits in Canada. Apparently these are all hand knit each by hand with knitting needles the traditional way.

S. Cannor, I didn’t know about these guys! The David Suzuki sweater is amaaazing!
November 15, 2013 at 2:33 pm
FYI, That is a copy of The Dude’s sweater in The Big Lebowski. There is a free copy of the pattern (by Andrea Rangel) available at the knitting site Ravelry (membership required). http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-dude

Such a comfy sweater, love the pattern ;)
November 15, 2013 at 3:01 pm
yes! i love how his (kind of) bold sweater completes the basicness of jeans + boots.
November 15, 2013 at 3:10 pm
Great looking canine accessory.
November 15, 2013 at 3:11 pm
I would totally steal his sweater.
November 15, 2013 at 3:15 pm
Yes! Here come the winter inspiration posts! I find it such a difficult season to dress for.
November 15, 2013 at 3:24 pm
It’s the dude’s sweater from “The Big Lebowski”!
Love this look! Reminds me of Starsky & Hutch!
November 15, 2013 at 3:25 pm
I once had that sweater. Found it at a thrift store for two dollars and I accidentally threw it in the wash one day. Have been regretting it ever since. Such a great sweater for a comfy rugged look.
November 15, 2013 at 3:32 pm
Holy smokes. This guy has major swagger and style. He’s HOT.
November 15, 2013 at 4:23 pm
aside from the rental bikes in the background that picture could have been taken in the 70′s. More than a little like Jon Voight walking down the street in Midnight Cowboy.
November 15, 2013 at 5:45 pm
This is my favorite picture of yours, Scott. I can see a whole story behind it. It reminds me of old New York, Sylvester Stallone from Rocky. James Caan from The Gambler. What does this man do in life? His style is timeless, very classis, careless. It’s very manly.
November 15, 2013 at 5:47 pm
I like this look, the two moustaches on both dog and man.
November 15, 2013 at 6:01 pm
The dog on the left makes the picture.
November 15, 2013 at 6:41 pm
Love this shot, what a cute pup!
November 15, 2013 at 7:16 pm
I don’t know who that is, but he has a great style, even if he is just walking the dog!
November 15, 2013 at 7:44 pm
ahhh the dog is the cutest!
November 15, 2013 at 9:21 pm
100% sure that’s his girlfriend’s dog.
November 16, 2013 at 2:17 am
love the way he’s upturned the collar of ‘the dude’ sweater. jeans and boots fit perfectly.
Not sure if he’s walking the “calculated dress to look effortless” or the “really doesn’t give a fuck” path, but either way it works for him.

I love fall and winter–all those classic, rugged clothes!
But while the man is indeed lovely, the dog is definitely the star of the shot.
November 16, 2013 at 3:10 am
Love the cowichan inspired sweater. A Canadian staple and also totally practical in any cold climate. I am pretty sure this one is identical to the one worn in The Big Lebowski!

Everything about this shot seems so cosy- I picture the crisp air but between the warm sweater, great boots and snuggly puppy things aren’t so cold.
November 16, 2013 at 11:30 am
Haaa, that is a greaaaaat photo.

I can feel the cold… and I love it…
November 18, 2013 at 2:03 am
The sweater definitely pops out along with his “movember” stache. Perfect.
Found some similar perfect sweaters that are actually hand knit in Canada.
November 18, 2013 at 8:19 am
Great shot! Funny how the dog seems to be totally aware it’s being shot and the owner seems totally into his walk.
I am fortunate enough to own two of these sweaters, including one that resembles the one in the picture. It is a Pendleton sweater with a zipper closure that was made in the 70′s and for a short time thereafter, I think. I have a black one with red and gray trim, but a later version.
Can’t beat their warmth for their moderate heft–one can brave 20 degree F weather with a thermal shirt and a scarf. Bought mine on Ebay. You won’t find them for less than $100-150 during this season.
November 18, 2013 at 11:11 am
Who needs a jacket when you have a thick zip up cardigan like this?
November 18, 2013 at 12:35 pm

Such an authentic NYC shot! I’ve actually walked past this guy a couple of times in the SoHo/Nolita area, and you’ve done an excellent job of capturing his aura. If it hasn’t happened already, I’m sure someone who knows him will eventually identify him or at least notify him that he’s been featured here.
