Not a typical Sartorialist capture but I like it. Sometimes the best things in life happen out of spontaneity. Great job as usual.
October 12, 2013 at 4:59 am
the first shot is very good! :)
October 12, 2013 at 10:29 am
Definitely not typical! Love the first shot, the vintage style lingerie makes it for me.
October 11, 2013 at 4:18 pm
This is awesome.
October 11, 2013 at 4:26 pm
O.M.G. It’s gonna HUGE, can’t wait for more!
October 11, 2013 at 4:48 pm
Few models express so much personality in still images, Crystal is one of them.
Good photographer helps, right?
October 11, 2013 at 4:51 pm
I wouldn’t go so far as to call it crass, but it’s pretty overt…
October 11, 2013 at 9:46 pm
Well, at least she’s licking lemon juice. If it were chocolate cake, then her plus size fans would have had something to argue about.
October 12, 2013 at 6:04 am
Uber-extroverted, yes I see that.

Fierce looking girl. Needs to clean her garage tho.

Whoa…can’t wait to read the comments to come.

October 11, 2013 at 10:30 pm
No. Just sexy.
October 12, 2013 at 4:05 am
Oh really? You do lick kinves like these to be sexy? In what world do you live?
October 13, 2013 at 11:48 am
Oh Gabriel, get a sense of humor…. Great to see a model with personality – and being allowed to express it.
October 14, 2013 at 6:39 pm
Calling out sexism is not being a killjoy, it is quite the opposite.
I want so much to like this blog, but the political naivette turns me off
October 15, 2013 at 4:51 pm
There’s no getting around it–art and ideology are always intermingled (to grasp this better, read John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing”). The beautiful knife-lick and the swing photos are both great examples of sexism & art in collaboration. Scott may not be a sexist person, but those two pictures are definitively sexist. It’s called an “odalisque” or a “nude,” a type of image where a woman’s nakedness exists for the consumption/enjoyment of others and not to tell you something about herself. You can’t just divorce an image from the history of images like it just because it’s an “editorial” or it’s “contemporary.”
Anyway, I enjoy all the images of her but think the one of the garage and drum-beating are much more idiosyncratic and are more revealing of her character. This looks like a new perspective/approach for Scott, so, good job!
October 13, 2013 at 12:53 pm
Agree with Gabriel. As a South African where crime and violence is a shocking reality , an image of knife licking is not an image that can be seen as sexy nor aesthetically pleasing.
One should be cautious what to glorify or make fun of in life…it can come back to haunt you. I know it’s meant to be a tease, but it just comes across as contrived and I would rather have seen you capture something genuinely transcendent and less self consciousness from Crystal.
October 11, 2013 at 6:13 pm
Why do I always find vintage-style underwear so much sexier?
October 11, 2013 at 6:16 pm
These photos capture the imagination. Textures and colors aplenty but what took my breath away is the nude. (Reminds me of the bathers in classical paintings.)

Thank you, (witty) Monsieur Marcel !
October 11, 2013 at 11:26 pm
Heh. Ingre’s Odalisque. Oh, that spine.
October 11, 2013 at 6:44 pm
Wow the shoot is so sensual!! I love this kind of pictures … Natural and taking the moment.

The photography is excellent. I love the richness of the many colors.
Although I have no problem with this, I wonder if certain groups would consider the photo exploitative even as it reinforces female stereotypes. It sounds like the model created her own actions so I would certainly disagree with that assessment. But … it is somewhat … cliched … ?
October 12, 2013 at 8:24 am
Hmmm yeah, another celebrity tongue… Aside from that I love ‘em, especially the garage shot.
October 14, 2013 at 5:32 pm
I always find the argument that if a woman participates in her own sexualization, stereotyping, degradation, etc…, it is not problematic or sexist to be a strange one. Surely, you’ve all heard of the Pavlovian dog experiment, right? There is no better real life example of how this works than women.
Society keeps rewarding women for degrading, objectifying, subjugating themselves until they truly believe it is their choice and desire to do so because they are rewarded for it constantly and it makes them feel better about themselves than if they don’t participate.
And of course, anyone who takes issue with this is told to get a sense of humor even by other women because women do not want to stop doing any of these things, so conditioned are we to want all of the rewards that come from complying with societal expectations of us.
I mean, I know this is a fashion blog, but since the subject came up, that’s my take.
October 17, 2013 at 12:35 am
What is wrong with sexualization? Are we a) religious fundamentalists b) children?
October 11, 2013 at 8:16 pm
These are PHENOMENAL!!! Amazing spaces and places for capture, and I love how expressive she is. In the photo’s she appears to be a powerhouse. I wonder if that is what she is like in real life. There is a strong sense of self and sensuality in each image.
October 11, 2013 at 9:06 pm
sorry but this is a bit ho hum

I miss curvy Crystal Renn. Her sensuality really stood out. At this size she reminds me of post nose job Jennifer Grey; no less attractive, but much less memorable.
October 12, 2013 at 12:58 pm
My thoughts exactly. At her more normal size 12, she was beautiful, strong, sexy and interesting. Now she just looks like another actress. The Jennifer Grey comparison is quite spot on.
October 14, 2013 at 8:54 am
A ‘normal’ model (i.e. normal for a model-superskinny) in that pose on the swing, without airbrushing to soften the bones, would have all of her ribs visible from the back. Renn’s been quite open about her fluctuating weight and I find even just that refreshing-our bodies change a little every day, and weight shifts/adds over the year.
October 12, 2013 at 1:56 am
Very strong and powerful! And I love the gypsy feel of it!
I think Crystal is striking, but can’t she make a shooting where she doesn’t play with food of some sort?
October 12, 2013 at 6:19 am
I think is one of the most interesting photo shoots you ever made! What I enjoy the most about this blog is that it is constantly evolving…I admire that so much! Keep up the good work…it’s inspiring..!
October 12, 2013 at 6:38 am
Oh please, she was well aware of what she was doing. Nothing spontaneous.
image cut out

Very lovely picture it is. Just amazing !!

October 12, 2013 at 11:14 am
Model closes eyes, throws head back & licks knife in a pose that’s supposed to be sexy, but just comes off as hackneyed. Your on-the-street photos of real people are so much more refreshing & interesting.
October 12, 2013 at 1:52 pm
The third photo is just perfect. Like a painting in Vermeer’s time.
October 12, 2013 at 1:56 pm
Oh! That all days at work could be this spontaneous and fun!!
Bravo to her for pulling you her direction~
October 12, 2013 at 1:58 pm
HAHA! what a great sense of humor! strong and emotional.
October 12, 2013 at 9:09 pm
Great shot, but I hope she opens her eyes before she cuts her tongue in half :-/

Now that’s how the domestic life should be…
October 13, 2013 at 11:16 am
Great, another image of a woman with her tongue out.
October 13, 2013 at 3:50 pm
I really don’t like the notions which are behind the pic.
October 13, 2013 at 5:13 pm
Quite agree, you must always go with the flow, love the first image,

These are all great shots. I love editorial shoots that let loose a bit. Pic No 2 is my favourite.
October 14, 2013 at 8:49 am
I don’t generally like the way you photograph women-I love sexiness and I get what you say about desire across all of your pictures but some of it is just too voyeuristic and male-gaze-y.
I LOVE that nude. I think including the context (Crytal Renn went off on one and I went with it) is important. But in the images themselves, she has a physical authority which is abundantly clear. And really, really beautiful. Thank you.
October 14, 2013 at 9:28 am
Kind of got a gypsy feel, love it
October 14, 2013 at 12:01 pm
I don’t know maybe because someone recently showed me the famous Miley Cyrus video that’s all I see in a couple of these shots. I was actually prepared to see the next shot with the women in mid twerk.
October 14, 2013 at 1:30 pm
I love these pictures! They’re fun and a little quirky, great!
