It’s interesting – comparing this photo to the last two of the girl in bikini. The contrast of light and dark, the use of shadow, the lovely pale glow of skin (both girls) have created these gorgeous photos, and yet, this girl, and therefore the photo, is so much more interesting. They are both lovely, very beautiful girls, but really at this point in time exposing as much flesh as possible is just boring. When I look at your vintage photos I am struck by the effortless style women had when they weren’t hanging it all out. And they knew how to live in their bodies – their normal, healthy bodies. But, of course, the women in your vintage photos probably weren’t trying to be sexy or show off their bodies. They were above that. They were simply trying to look lovely and feminine while highlighting their best features.
September 5, 2013 at 6:39 pm
That makes sense. When you see someone dressed, you see their style; Their expression of self. When you see someone in a bikini, you see them; Their unadorned physical gifts. I don’t consider that to be less interesting. The human body, especially the female human body, is supremely lovely and expressive. But thats from the point of view of painting of photography. From the point of view of fashion, of course clothing is more interesting.
One thing I know for certain; The women in the vintage photos were probably more interested in being fancy, feminine and sexy then the women of today, seeing how women had more to gain from marriage back then. They were by no means above that. Its far more likely that women today are simply there to enjoy their time on the beach and not worried about their looks.

I love what you’re doing with light and color and your subject matter is interesting and thought provoking. But it’s not street style; or is it? You tell me! I’d be super interested to hear what’s your thought process behind some of your most recent posts.

Very pretty shot. Love the contrast between the flow-y and feminine dress, and her boots. Personally, I would not pair it with it, but she wears it beautifully!

Beautiful girl, horrible outfit.
September 4, 2013 at 1:26 pm
So this is Brooklyn. It looks so interesting, with wood siding on the storefronts and the pop-up juice stand. Definitely the opposite it seems to the high end of New York. I love pink against the woody brown grain of the building. Great shot.
