Pretty woman. Dreadful cigarette.

Red lips and Hair up, the wining combo! Not so sure about the cigarette though (I’m such a conservative!)

I agree…even about the cigarette ;)

Extremely cool shot.
August 29, 2013 at 8:31 pm
perfection. this is style, a complete woman wooowww!!
August 29, 2013 at 9:00 pm
Something about this image brings to mind the work of Diane Arbus. Perhaps it’s the bright red lipstick. I want to know the back story. In terms of her personal style, the black jacket and bag are ho-hum and I do not like the bird’s nest atop her head.
August 29, 2013 at 9:02 pm
It’s not just because of the cigarette that she reminds of a young Fran Lebowitz.

As the kids would say, OMG! I would never had made that connection, but as soon as I read it it made perfect sense.
August 30, 2013 at 1:54 am
She reminds me of (younger) Lili Taylor :-)
August 31, 2013 at 12:52 pm
that was my first thought either! her character in Kusturika’s Arizona Dream…
December 2, 2018 at 10:04 am
Yes I thought same, Lili Taylor and a pinch of Parker Posey. Is the red lip with the messy hair I love so much about this image, two worlds, something amiss, that’s my personal style, too.
August 30, 2013 at 7:00 am
Exactly my thought !
August 30, 2013 at 9:02 am
Claire and Sevan, my thought exactly, too!
August 29, 2013 at 9:25 pm
that type of hairline on the forehead is called a “beauty part” in chinese – it’s kinda a prized trait =)
August 29, 2013 at 9:37 pm
Two of my favorite things…top knots and red lipstick. Bella!
August 29, 2013 at 9:43 pm
Love the lips….perfect!
August 29, 2013 at 10:37 pm
The red lips, the top knot, the cigarette. Such a perfect shot.

August 29, 2013 at 11:05 pm
Love the red lips.
August 29, 2013 at 11:59 pm
She would look much better without the cigarette.

A bit over-dramatic-looking…

Beautiful portrait! Love the messy bun and the red lips!
August 30, 2013 at 4:16 am
Somehow she reminds me of a moviestar from the 40/50ties like Bacall/Katherine Hepburn as they often were smokin.
August 30, 2013 at 10:00 am
Yes!! Many are saying Lili Taylor, and I totally agree, but I immediately thought Hepburn. Something about the attitude…and maybe the mackintosh…and of course the cigarette.
August 30, 2013 at 10:45 am
Did you ever actually see any of their films? They smoked with style and sophistication.
August 30, 2013 at 2:06 pm
I,ve seen them all and K.Hepburn smoked like a man .
So did Bacall and Signoret
August 30, 2013 at 4:30 am
The red lipstick and the messy bun, love it!
August 30, 2013 at 4:38 am
Love it! Brilliant shot that captures a rebel nature? She looks like a resistance fighter . . .
August 30, 2013 at 4:43 am
the first thing i think of – very french
and with or without cigarette, she looks beautiful and efortlessly elegant
August 30, 2013 at 4:53 am
Hair, lips and also cigarette.
Cause it’s the act of smoking that give her that lost but intense gaze, also a little gloomy.

Cigarettes may be gross and unhealthy in practice, but in theory they are still chic. She looks fantastic with that cigarette. In fact, it gives her lip color and hairstyle that edge, touch of vintage, the je ne sais quoi that otherwise I’m not sure would have been possible in Scott’s capture of this moment. The cigarette makes it.

She’s a very pretty woman. Her makeup and hair is soft, but hardened with the cigarette in her mouth. Interesting..

Such a classic photo!
