I would hate this outfit on a girl. I am not sure I should like it any better on a guy, but the photo is fierce. JUST the photo. Not the model.
October 21, 2013 at 11:13 pm
But isn’t what makes the photo fierce in fact, the subject? If not then what?
August 28, 2013 at 4:08 pm
Love the fact that there is no gender label attached to this photo. Really stunning image.

August 29, 2013 at 5:26 am
I agree completely, as well. Nice shot Scott
September 2, 2013 at 1:38 am
Yes! I agree !!!! That’s great PIC
September 6, 2013 at 7:38 am
It’s interesting that, while Scott did not label this photo, most commenters still feel the need to attach a label by using either ‘he’ or ‘she’ as a pronoun. To me it’s obvious that the model does not identify as either, hence their feminine makeup and exposure of an obviously masculine chest.
I don’t think that fishnets are tacky per se. What’s tacky is the statement they usually make. On most biological women, fishnets read as “Look at my breasts!”. Here, however, they serve to expose the gender ambiguity. In a more modest garment the model could have been mistaken for a woman. Going shirtless, on the other hand, would have created a silhouette that’s too masculine for the look.

I AGREE TOO AWSOME
August 28, 2013 at 4:13 pm

It’s provocative, she’s beautiful, and I don’t know how I feel about it
August 30, 2013 at 12:33 am
You feel that it is beautiful!
Stunning as always Scott!
August 28, 2013 at 4:31 pm
her hair is just amazing! Also jeans are perfect.
August 29, 2013 at 9:03 pm
Totally agree. Her hair is perfecto! And the manicure as well. Every detail is taken spot on! I love the fishnet top. But in America I think I would get arrested if I wore it with no bra!
August 28, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Really excellent, love.
August 28, 2013 at 4:54 pm
Androgyny at its best!
August 28, 2013 at 4:57 pm
So weird: face: woman, torso: man! Great photo!
August 28, 2013 at 4:58 pm
I assume that’s a man, right?
Truly wonderful photo. Masterly.
August 28, 2013 at 5:16 pm
dude looks like a lady.
August 29, 2013 at 8:59 pm
It’s been said, but I love the ambiguity of this person’s sex. Who says we have to subscribe to the division of genders? Why not fall somewhere in the middle, wherever we feel comfortable?
August 28, 2013 at 6:54 pm
Nicely said. Many people are not 100% feminine or 100% masculine in nature.
August 28, 2013 at 8:48 pm
Beautiful comment @ Marin

September 23, 2013 at 6:43 am
Can’t understand why sex is such an issue for so many. Can they all be insecure in their own identity or are they just plain dumb? Great pic Scott.

The New Testament….if there were a pictorial version.
August 28, 2013 at 5:41 pm
I want to be like that!!!
August 28, 2013 at 5:43 pm
Er, no: masculine. No, on second thought , feminine. Or, rather, masculine…
August 30, 2013 at 12:47 am
that’s what I was thinking…
August 28, 2013 at 5:50 pm
This is a striking and captivating photo of the prettiest man I have ever seen <3

August 28, 2013 at 6:23 pm
Not a huge fan of netting by itself on boy, girl or anyone – but I’d agree that this may be as great as the look can get
August 28, 2013 at 6:25 pm
A lot of sadness in that face.
August 29, 2013 at 12:31 pm
I agree, Michelle.
August 28, 2013 at 6:32 pm
Quite the catch in that fishnet…
August 28, 2013 at 6:52 pm
the shoulder,the dips and hollows…stunning photo. breathtaking…
August 28, 2013 at 7:06 pm
Fantastic shot! This photo represents so much, without saying anything!
August 28, 2013 at 7:07 pm
This reminds me of a long time ago, when I went to Italy for the first time (I was 16), and we were sitting outside in a cafe on (or near?) the Piazza San Marco in Venice and at another table was a group with a woman who was wearing a similar net top with nothing underneath – only she was very definitely a woman. It definitely gave me pause…
August 28, 2013 at 8:08 pm
This has too be a guy, right? He looks amazing!

August 28, 2013 at 9:22 pm
I agree with Michelle….this has not been an easy life.
August 28, 2013 at 9:35 pm
Love the hair! and this is a beautiful shot!
August 28, 2013 at 9:58 pm
hauntingly beautiful…the netting like shadows upon the skin, echoing the background colors…the eyes so full of sadness, as if caught the moment before tears spill…the light, perfect…lovely
August 28, 2013 at 10:13 pm
Loving this androgynous look. It takes, well, balls.
August 28, 2013 at 10:20 pm
Love this – the conflation of gender labels in style!
August 28, 2013 at 10:37 pm
Love the look! Slightly shocked and a little confused but nevertheless, he/she looks incredibly beautiful. Great shot and great style.

Beautiful Lady-boy, what a sight.
August 29, 2013 at 8:15 pm
perfect words! Lady-boy.
August 31, 2013 at 6:47 am
Lady-boy is a common term in thailand for feminine souls trap in bodies of boys. This one is provocative yet sad. Just beautiful.
August 29, 2013 at 2:57 am
It would give you a funny-looking tan if you wore it out in the sun too long, though…..
August 29, 2013 at 3:02 am
Amazing! An outfit that creates a very strong contrast between his person and the outfit itself. It ‘nice to see the hard expression on a face with sweet features and eyes which express anything but hardness.

Thank you, Dear Scott, when i was reading all the comments below, i felt overwhelmly touched and grateful, and being understood.
September 1, 2013 at 10:42 am
it’s you in the picture right? I think I remember Scott posted a close up picture of this very person, with white hair and blue lenses. People wonder if you were asian or caucasian. Even now they still wonder if you are man or woman :) Very clever Scott… very clever…
greetings from paradise
September 1, 2013 at 4:56 pm
well :) we all know that Scott is very clever, cheers !

August 29, 2013 at 11:27 am
This is precisely how I imagine angels looking (minus the wings). Neither male or female but strikingly beautiful. Hard eyes and perfect bow-shaped mouth. Just stunning!
August 29, 2013 at 5:43 pm
August 30, 2013 at 3:06 am
Beautifully said. There is something other worldly and beautiful about this individual. An Angel indeed.
August 29, 2013 at 11:49 am
The barely pronounced buds leave me to believe this is a boy. Not that it matters.
August 29, 2013 at 12:13 pm
At first I thought man, woman? Trying to figure it out. Then I thought, she/he is beauiful. That’s all.
August 29, 2013 at 12:32 pm
wow! this is what the future looks like.
August 29, 2013 at 12:38 pm
Amazing style and personality. That combined with how it is captured: I would claim this to be art.
This blog is seldom leaving me unaffected. I love seeing all these photos from everywhere and of PEOPLE, it is a great way of everyday travelling making my days a bit more prosperous; so many thanks to you, for sharing. All the best to you! :)
August 29, 2013 at 12:43 pm
“Lookatmelookatmelookatme”may or may not be a fashion statement, or it may be THE fashion statement, but shouting it always makes me feel sad, somehow.
This photo makes me want to drape my sweater over her shoulders. And then tell her that, yes, she is beautiful.
August 29, 2013 at 3:41 pm
Mabel took the words out of my mouth so to speak.
August 29, 2013 at 9:39 pm
I agree,,,someone needs to tell her that her look is unique enough to be noticed without the need for fishnet….

August 29, 2013 at 4:21 pm
A wonderful shot of a stunning person. I love how uniquely we all express ourselves.
August 29, 2013 at 5:45 pm
Beautiful photo and person xo
August 29, 2013 at 6:17 pm
It is very beautiful to see the breast, but subtle in the outfit that without the eye of a great photographer it could be missed. I feel the satisfaction of seeing something new today.
August 29, 2013 at 7:08 pm
definitely someone looking for attention…and why not?
reminds me of a wild business trip to bangkok in the late 80s…but that’s a story for another time…
August 29, 2013 at 9:06 pm
then would please do me a favor, stay in the late 80′s !
August 30, 2013 at 3:08 am
Yes please take your archaic and insulting views elsewhere!
September 2, 2013 at 10:22 pm
Working too hard to find fault with his comment, where there is none. He is simply reminded of a pleasant time he once had.
August 29, 2013 at 11:23 pm
Why look so tormented when you have the freedom to dress how you choose – most women dressed like this in a city would be asked to cover up! Its a man’s world.
August 30, 2013 at 11:09 am
August 30, 2013 at 11:11 am
Yueh, that’s you? You’re gorgeous, keep it up :)
August 30, 2013 at 12:52 pm
I’m trying to understand but I see conflict on an individual level and social level. If a woman were to wear only the large fishnet on the street, she’d be considered tacky and probably arrested for indecent exposure (I’m assuming that would be the case in Milan). The young man wishes to be seen as a woman (I think) wearing the same top but is considered stylish and not arrested because he’s a man – how ironic.
I don’t have a problem with the androgynous look but I feel there’s a difference between shock value and a sense of style.
August 30, 2013 at 7:20 pm
For me, the conflict you describe is the whole point. I’m sure our subject is well aware of the gender/fishnet irony. That’s what makes it work for me. Someone with breasts would need to wear a bra… But a woman with a male torso??? And that’s what makes it special. Sometimes style is so much more than matching shoes and handbags… Or, at least, done well it is.
August 31, 2013 at 12:02 am
Double standards equals style?
August 31, 2013 at 11:13 am
Oh dear… No, of course not! But the illumination of the gender double standards of our culture and the uncomfortably tight boxes we force ourselves into is very clever style. There is a big fat difference between having a double standard and shining a glaring light onto an existing one.
August 31, 2013 at 4:46 am
Well, I guess one man’s “no” is some woman’s “yes”… on to the next!
August 31, 2013 at 11:16 am
What on earth does that mean and how does it relate to the conversation?
September 1, 2013 at 6:44 am
It simply means we disagree on style points, agree to disagree and move on to the next subject. I recall you previously identified yourself as being female – I intend nothing sinister behind my words.
September 1, 2013 at 10:26 am
So glad we can now agree to disagree…
September 4, 2013 at 10:19 pm
Sinister! Exactly my reaction too.
August 30, 2013 at 4:57 pm
I agree with Westcoasttiger’s perception on the subliminal wish of the vest wearer to be perceived as feminine in a transparent item in this photo. It’s a little dangerous unfortunately, because, there are places where he would still get beat up for this attempt, so I think it’s just dangerous for him unaccompanied….mostly..
August 31, 2013 at 10:42 pm
This is something!
S/HE is so cool!
September 1, 2013 at 8:26 am
I love that this is Italy…my country has allways a way to say something new and free.
September 2, 2013 at 10:32 am
This is androgyny done right! the aggression, confidence, and precision of this outfit alleviates all the anxiety I normally experience when viewing androgynous fashion.
September 7, 2013 at 12:37 pm
Mysterious…but still in a cool way…BL
September 7, 2013 at 7:07 pm
fierce.that is all.
September 12, 2013 at 4:10 pm
September 16, 2013 at 7:05 am
The subject of the photograph is beautiful, interesting and unique, but I absolutely hate the outfit – smacks too much of posed fetishism (unless it is actually the models own clothing ?)
October 26, 2013 at 2:27 am
What a superb image . . . so much more intelligent than the recent trend to make women appear as unintelligent, vacant, bimbos, that have become too commonplace in several contemporary fashion magazines.
