That’s what I love about Asia, you can eat good things so easily (it is the same in Vietnam). And this photo is beautiful, I love the colors, with the big touch of blue!

One of your most sensitive photos. Capturing such woman in such a job…the shirt, the turban, we do not use enough turbans!!!

It’s not exactly a turban. That pink tray under the plates n food is some kind of a (portable)carrier of her merchandise. She would put the carrier on top of her head and the turban will serve as a cushion/protector for her head.

      Another great pic Scott!!

This photo is beautiful but also potentially misplaced. This woman is clearly on fringes of poverty and, despite her potential fashion sense, I’m certain she selected her ensemble as most practical comfortable working attire. Having lived in similar conditions in my early years I can confirm that having more than 3 shirts can be a luxury. To respond to the above comment the item on her head is not a turban, it is most likely a rolled up towel or cloth to help her balance heavy loads on top her head (which is a necessity, not a fashion statement). Having said all that: this photo is well-done, the subject is timeless, the colors… the evocation of essence of life, are all on target.

I have so been enjoying your pictorial of Bali! An observation I’ve had for years …. what really strikes me is how some of the poorest countries feature its citizens dressed in the most gorgeous, inspired colours known to man …. and then how some of the richest countries feature its citizens decked out in black. IE, contrasting this image with the one you recently posted of an Asian (-American?) woman in a black jacket.

    Interesting.

Something I noticed in the picture is the predominance of plastic in this society. Poor people use plastic, not nice, organic materials that we see in movies like Eat, Love, Pray.

I love that Scott is a true street photographer documenting real people in their element and not just high fashion folks. This is what makes Scott’s images so authentic and genuine, love it.
