While Scott photographs some rather interesting subjects — and the man has an eye for the visually dynamic — we, as commentators, shouldn’t treat everything he photographs as “stylish.” This outfit is perhaps the most hideous ensemble that anyone has ever deigned to wear. Not sure why we can’t just “call a spade a spade here.” Even David Bowie during his “Let’s Dance” phase wouldn’t have let a video extra from “China Girl” wear this outfit. Enough.

Most critical comments are edited out. Kinda sad to see the usual stream of fawning admiration. See if this one makes it!

Agree that just because an outfit is shown on this site, doesn’t mean it should have to be loved and regaled by all. This is downright frumpy.

The jacket would be nice with some black pants and subtler shoes, but that skirt is a refugee from 1973. Just because a color and pattern combination is new doesn’t mean it’s good.

Audacious but charming – is it the red in both prints, or the clutch? Anyway, it works!

    • Jenny

      July 30, 2013 at 7:39 am

You see that intrigues me too. To my eyes this does work. But I have no idea why. Is it because there’s red in both prints and a similarity of shape and size between the marks of the pattern in the jacket and the skirt? It fascinates me that a ‘clash’ can sometimes look wonderful – and sometimes not. I have a feeling it’s got something to do with having enough points of similarity between pieces – and enough points of complete – and shocking – difference.

nice relaxed look, i like this skirt length, the silhouette – and the short hair!

    July 30, 2013 at 6:55 am

I’d like to see this from the front, but with the sneakers, it’s a little twee, like something Michelle Williams would wear. Also, it looks bulky and doesn’t do much for her shape. That part often doesn’t matter to me. Here it just looks badly proportioned, though.

I like the print of the skirt. Maybe the top pulls it together in some cool French girl way.

I’m not a fan of this. It’s interesting and notable, but most of all; reminds you why there is a rule like ‘print on print = no go’. It’s not working. Actually it looks like she threw clothing on herself to mock the fashionistas. I wish it was so.

I love 99% of the what Scott shows us. This is in the other 1%. I love it that Scott challenges us sometimes, but this is not stylish and not audacious. Actually, downright hideous.

I agree that it’s hideous, but I like it anyway. Why, I cannot yet articulate, which is why I visit this site.

Could it be that the near-match in scale of these patterns thrills the eye in the way that a poem’s near-rhyme thrills the ear? The scale(s) provide an interesting, fun tension, which the juicy colors enhance?

    July 30, 2013 at 11:54 am

Brilliant! I find this outfit to be very flattering. The model has an interesting combination of patterns which are an unlikely pair but work very well despite being an atypical combination. The colors are beautiful and I love the blue sneakers to match. A different type of shoe selection may have been expected, but I think the sneakers work very well and complement the flowers from the skirt.

Difficult but it works for me. The colors and the scale match. I love it!

which is the brand of that shoes?

  29. erika

    July 30, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Why I think this works is that the jacket seems like a black and white ( with some red ) x-ray of the bright blue print.
Also the print size is the same which makes it seem more like a set.

Wonder if the skirt is actually a dress and if not what top is she wearing.

Its interesting how only certain body shapes can pull off mismatched patterns like this. If this were worn by a woman that was 20 lbs heavier she would look silly but I think it looks pretty good on her!

Scott raised the question, showing just the sunning skirt with the blue sneakers: solid top or printed top? Solid!

  36. Ships

    July 31, 2013 at 4:19 am

I am just too curious to know what top she has worn with these prints? Another bizarre print or a flashy solid? I like this from where I see it but would like to see whats not yet seen!
