First person to leave a comment wins?
What did you think of Stella McCartney Scott? I feel like between Stella and Pheobe showed next season the world will be washed in camel and grey. I love both of the collections.
you could possibly set up a number game for eg from 1-2000(depending on the amt you want) so everyone chooses a random number and you choose one number as well, the person(or people) who get the number correctly wins! and the remaining books go to another number and until all books are won. :)
March 17, 2010 at 12:18 pm
Contest idea: top ten Celine trends through the years and influence on future designers with matching Celine and after images.
March 17, 2010 at 12:20 pm
I thopught Stella looked like a Resort collection not a Fall/Winter collection
Contest idea 2: Celine vs. look alike whoever chooses the most correct answers wins book.
March 17, 2010 at 12:21 pm
i agree with Cath, that is what I was going to say. Thats a little more fun and interesting!
Auction them for charity!!!
Do what bikesnob does and have a competition that you judge (only you)
200 words about a piece of clothing or someone's look
200 words about the best (and worst) photo on this site?
March 17, 2010 at 12:22 pm
For Anon 12:18
Interesting idea but the contest doesn't have to relate to Celine. It could revolve around anything.
March 17, 2010 at 12:26 pm
first ten comments? I'm just sneaking in right?!?!?! Either that or I agree, a post that can get everyone involved, perhaps the top whatever number of people with the best answer win.
I think it should go to charity…go through Make a Wish, someone battling for their life who loves fashion.
Maybe even get Celine involved-sign a book.
I know it's not the most simple thing…but I think it would definitely be the most rewarding!
how about a competition of people taking photos of themselves dressed in their favorite outfits in the street?
March 17, 2010 at 12:27 pm
You could ask people to submit their own style influences, and award the books for the ones you think are the most creative and interesting (or let your readers decide). It's subjective, but so are a lot of contests involving creativity. Or, you could ask for photos of the most imaginative styling of a Celine item. That ensures the books will go to real Celine fans who already wear the line, not someone who will turn around and resell them.
erin :: the olive notes
March 17, 2010 at 12:28 pm
how about each person can submit an inspiring photo/collage/etc of how they see the upcoming seasons overall looks (not necessarily with clothes, but other images as this Celine book shows). We could submit by email with our info. You'll pick your favorite and maybe do a post with a handful of the leaders + winner!
March 17, 2010 at 12:29 pm
How about randomly choosing commenters from a giveaway post where we would have say something like why we'd like to get celine's book?
March 17, 2010 at 12:32 pm
Select one (or a few) inspiration(s) from the book and have people submit a title for it… your favorites get a copy (as well as the inventor of the game?).
March 17, 2010 at 12:33 pm
200 words about how the Sartorialist site contributes to one's sartorial ideas for everyday life
lion city sart
i second Aya Rosen. heck you could even make a lookbook that everyone could really relate to using those photos.
March 17, 2010 at 12:34 pm
mmm, a competition of personal style can be fun!!! but the work for you two could be overwhelming!! the charity idea is good also!
March 17, 2010 at 12:35 pm
I say auction off the book–a lunch date with Mr. Sart–proceeds to support Dress for Success!
March 17, 2010 at 12:36 pm
Everyone should re-create a look from their favourite Celine collection, and then leave a link to the image/blog post/flickr/whatever. (& leave a little note as to which collection they're re-creating).
March 17, 2010 at 12:37 pm
The most creative collage made gets a copy of the book. All these collages from the Phoebe Philo / Celine clothing pieces need to be sent to you and / or Tracy.
March 17, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Or…make the best Scott & Garance collages…and send these ones to Scott or tracy, Scott's assistant. :)
March 17, 2010 at 12:39 pm
Charity – I think there are so many people that are struggling these days. I think money toward one of the organizations that help men / women with wardrobes, clothing, etc. for new careers, new jobs, etc. Fashion can be powerful and for the greater good.
March 17, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Maybe you can let people describe/draw/photgraph the 'Celine feeling'. Then you can see the effort they put into it and how much of a fan they are.
March 17, 2010 at 12:41 pm
contest!ir will be great contest for those
March 17, 2010 at 12:43 pm
I think the only good idea it's a contest of people taking photos of their outfits. Maybe celine-like outfits? But you and garance would have a big job to do:) I guess all your funs are waiting for any occasion to show you themselvs:) (me do:))Ok, honestly it should go to a charity..
March 17, 2010 at 12:44 pm
Definitely an eBay auction for charity. Easy breezy.
E-bay auction for charity
Auction for a charity. Everybody wins this way!
Enter a photo of your own ideas of "street fashion" that others can be inspired from. It would be very relative..but isn't it all!
March 17, 2010 at 12:46 pm
Auction via Ebay for charity!
Altought i would love to have one, an ebay auction for charity is a good idea !
Make it random that way nobody will be upset with you if they think their idea was better than the winner's.Have everyone who's interested e-mail you their contact information and then just draw a name from Garance's new Borsalino hat.
March 17, 2010 at 12:47 pm
why not have ebay auction benefitting charity? ebay listing fees 50% off today 3.16 and bookrate US postage is cheap. greencycle beauty whilst generating $ for worthy like medecin sin frontieres (msf.org) dress for success(dressforsuccess.org) or humane society (humanesociety.org) or your favorite!
March 17, 2010 at 12:51 pm
I think you should make a (youtube) video contest? in the video should be explained why he/she has deserved to get the book – and the most creative wins. I think a auction is not the best, cause there a so many fashionable people outside who would love to get the book, but just can´t afford it.I adore your work. keep going so on. You are my inspiration. ♥
March 17, 2010 at 12:52 pm
what about people email you a collage/mood board of their own personal inspirations and you could post the ones you like and have people vote on their favorites?hope this contest would be more less like judging someone's personal inspirations and more like celebrating our different ideas.
March 17, 2010 at 12:53 pm
I must say, I agree with Cath! Its very simple and easy idea that will work. Or maybe just randomly choose people who would like one and make it fair. Well kind of fair because maybe i would like one ;) jk. It should be fair!
i like cath's idea! ;) the easier of all these ideas. Or maybe can U give it on ebay? I really want to have this book, I love beautifull pictures, I have obsession about magazines and books with that type of arts.
A picture of the person/people who makes you feel epic/strong facing your everyday life. And you choose!
March 17, 2010 at 12:54 pm
I like MJ's idea–have anyone interested in the books comment in a post and you can randomly select comments to determine the winners.
March 17, 2010 at 12:56 pm
Auction for charity. It's easy to define the winner(s) and it helps a bigger cause.
March 17, 2010 at 12:58 pm
How about donating them to fashion schools?
Nicole Frances Kammo
March 17, 2010 at 12:59 pm
A photo contest. One image that represents Celine/Phoebe Philo Look. It can be anything from people to objects. The best photo wins!
March 17, 2010 at 1:00 pm
CONTEST:SHOW YOUR PASSION FOR FASHION!How would you describe FASHION in 7 words starting with:F….A….S….H….I….O….N….
:)http://barboradudinska.blogspot.com"fashionably tasteful.have a bite"
March 17, 2010 at 1:01 pm
Contest Idea 3: Have a party/charity auction at a boutique/gallery/cafe and ask people to come in their favorite Celine inspired outfit. Charge a small entrance fee that will be 100 per cent to charity of choice and give the books as prizes for best dressed.
March 17, 2010 at 1:03 pm
A game would be fun and a auction to help Haiti would be politically correct!
Since the initial question pertained to exploring the most desirable identity of a woman, to both genders. Have a call for submissions entailing what being a woman, or being with a woman, means. For time's sake, put the limit to 82 words or less. After, sit down with some friends, dinner maybe, and have the group decide which entry produces the most conversation. Heck, have the finalist choose a number between 1 and 20 if it makes you feel fair.
March 17, 2010 at 1:04 pm
A contest with readers own Inspiration Book ? Otherwise ebay auction for Charity sounds good !
March 17, 2010 at 1:05 pm
How many books? Are they the same or different?
If you have multiples you could auction most for charity but give 1 away via some contest. That way you get the best of both. :)
March 17, 2010 at 1:08 pm
I would say a raffle to pick a random comment after a certain amount of comments have reached.
March 17, 2010 at 1:09 pm
I vote for CHARITY for Haiti and Chile.
March 17, 2010 at 1:12 pm
a twitter contest will do fine! It`s maybe to unpersonal for those rare books, but the most simple and fast way.
March 17, 2010 at 1:13 pm
Or even better = STYLE:S….T….Y….L….E….
http://barboradudinska.blogspot.com"fashionably tasteful.have a bite"
haiku that epitomizes Celine
March 17, 2010 at 1:15 pm
just post a photo of your election and ask for the story behind in three lines…. just a smile, a sigh, just a landscape… imagine it!. Get inspired!
March 17, 2010 at 1:16 pm
Trends fade, but style remains.Let the posted pictures of the Celine book inspire you, scetch or photograph your idea of Celine style.
(Ladies lunch, sipping Martini in the garden in spring, a Celine bag, buying vintage books on a market in Paris)
March 17, 2010 at 1:17 pm
For those of us without time zone advantage for a quick response, and with a simpler personality (yet who love fashion), how about US submitting a single photo of ourselves dressed the way we like to when we are comfortable at home/walking the dog. This would give YOU 3 things: More fashion photos to exhibit from – surprise from your readers to your readers, participation sampling from your readers, clue as to readership location is using gps type info off photos using Apple. You could create a fashion collage! Obviously the winner could submit back to you the matching photo that was sent in. It would be fun to see some statistics about the age and gender and heat map location of readership – which I assume is huge because of your excellently entertaining and educational work. P.S. I've never won something cool like this.
March 17, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Well, the contest would involve a lot of work for you, judging pictures, essays whatsoever. I'd say auction it off for charity. Less hassle for you and there is a good cause involved!
March 17, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Recently I saw in a blog (I cant remember witch one) a contest where people would send photos of there essential day by day items.Things like glasses, scarves, pens, wallets, dogs, mobile phones, whatever .. All in just one shoot!!!There were submitted some real nice pics, with some very interesting objects.Since The Sartorialist is a Blog that uses photographs as the mean of communication, who submitted the pic that you liked best would be the winner!!!
March 17, 2010 at 1:21 pm
March 17, 2010 at 1:27 pm
for the contest: everyone takes a photo, inspired by the pictures you have shown us from the celine book, the pictures you believe works- the photographer has gotten an understanding of what the celine pictures represent and is about – deserves one of those books!
March 17, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Why not consider awarding one book to the creator of your favorite 'giveaway idea' and other copies given away in true Sartorialist Fashion– to those on the streets that truly inspire you and your team to photograph them. Style celebrates style!
March 17, 2010 at 1:34 pm
I don't know, I like the number lottery, or else you could do what the radio does, say, the first 10 people who sign on on a particular day get the booklets.
March 17, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I love the idea of donating to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for a lovely young person who loves fashion. That would be rewarding for all of us.
March 17, 2010 at 1:40 pm
how about a photo contest?
March 17, 2010 at 1:42 pm
A contest where we send in a photo of our selves in our favourite outfit. So many of us dream of beeing at the Sartorialist, so that winning this might beat the actual prize. Why not have e a contest where the price is to get your photo here. Lots of us live in places like Norway, where you never go. Maybe you would have fun looking through all the pictures! Or how about a contest on the best idea to a dream article/photo on the Sartorialist?
March 17, 2010 at 1:43 pm
Why not a personal style contest? Each person sends in a picture of a Celine-inspired outfit. You pick your favorites. It would require work, but would help you identify people really passionate about Celine- and seems appropriate for a Celine inspiration book.
March 17, 2010 at 1:45 pm
how about a photo contest with a "lost and found" theme where the readers submit photos, you choose a certain number of those photos to be voted on by the readers. the voters are entered into a lottery (numbers based on date and time of vote) to win the books. then a silent or ebay auction for the winning photo, all proceeds going to a chosen charity.
as for the difficulty of weeding through images… a flickr group could be set up to make it easier and more efficient.
have a photo contest!!
March 17, 2010 at 1:47 pm
Perhaps donate at least one copy to a Parsons or FIT library. Spread the love, share the wealth, you know?
March 17, 2010 at 1:52 pm
contest idea: submit 2 pictures (maybe even of the same outfit) – how satorialist would photograph it; how garance dore would photograph it.
Agree w/Anonymous 1:18. You and Garance will hardly have time to look at and judge photos or collages or poems, etc. Just do either the number contest or an eBay auction benefitting Dress for Success (after all, it is fashion-related).
March 17, 2010 at 1:54 pm
I think you should have a posting contest, where people leave you their email and a haiku about fashion (standard 5/7/5) about fashion/a trend/celine/whatever. The haikus would be fun to write, to post about, and you could just pick the ones you like best.
Give a copy each to a fashion school/library/special collection like Pratt or Art Institute of (fill in the blank). Plenty of students/aspiring designers will have access to these resources then. They will be taken care of and preserved. From, your friendly librarian.
March 17, 2010 at 1:58 pm
Hi there Scott….Phoebe Philo/Celine show all about pared down style…how about desert island stlye…you are allowed ten items (not necessarily clothes) you simply could not live without…best list wins one of the books and the rest auctioned for charity…..
March 17, 2010 at 1:59 pm
auction it off for charity!
March 17, 2010 at 2:01 pm
You will save yourself a lot of time by just having people leave a comment. There are random number generators out there that many other bloggers use (I know nitrolicious uses these things), and whatever number it picks, say 10, you find the 10th comment left behind and then give them a book. auctioning, contests–these things take time and let's just be real here–you have other things to do, right? Who doesn't?
March 17, 2010 at 2:02 pm
maybe everybody could pick one of picture, the favourite one, and describe why it inspires us!and also a celine inspiration book for the best idea? ;)
March 17, 2010 at 2:04 pm
You should start a photo contest based around the books. You can start one on ibeatyou.com and then embed the whole player here. People upload their pictures and everyone can vote and rank them.
March 17, 2010 at 2:08 pm
A raffle would be a fairly easy way for all involved. 1) post to your blog and say that it's running until whatever cut-off date/time you choose. 2) look at the total # of responses. Use a random number generator (online, or in programs like MS Excel), and based on the # of books you have, pick numbers.
So, if you have 10 books, and 1000 respondents, tell the random # generator to select 10 #s in that range.
March 17, 2010 at 2:09 pm
What a great idea, Scott & Garance! How about auctioning it off on ebay for Haiti relief fund?
The fashion industry already had a close tie with Haiti for their lower end manufacturing line and maybe it can once again be used for both start-up businesses and mid-priced lines. Can you imagine how much they could benefit if only Target used Haiti's labor force and manufacturing mills to produce their Go-International lines? They are so close to our shores and have so much potential…
March 17, 2010 at 2:11 pm
Quite difficult as Celine fans are all over the world. What can be done to make sure that those books are on the right hands is to give them to fashion schools.
They can be then in their documentation which will help students.
March 17, 2010 at 2:28 pm
How about you simply make us play a little sartoriaphotography of our hometown trendsetters ;)
March 17, 2010 at 2:33 pm
I would probably go for something more interesting… i would make the book/ books to be a link between your readers. Something like a "chain of favors" were everybody can have it for a wuile and then they `ll pass it on the next user. just think where this can go…try to add something like that and mix it with a good cause like a donation and you we ´re done
March 17, 2010 at 2:36 pm
Simple: Give the books to women whose name is Celine, – like me:)
March 17, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Go ahead with the idea from the bicycles category:
"We should have a contest on who can submit the best photo of their Chic/Tech bike look."
It is becoming bike weather in Canada again, and I would love to see people's ideas.
March 17, 2010 at 2:38 pm
People could send you a link to a picture the ones that make you laugh the hardest should get a book. Also, if you use this idea i should get a book :-)
March 17, 2010 at 2:39 pm
We could submit a sartorialist-like photo of a person in our city. You'd choose the best one.
March 17, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Maybe you could do something via twitter, and the first few to @reply you with something regarding this contest get a follow from you and receive a book !
I would DIE for this ! Heheh ! ; )
March 17, 2010 at 2:45 pm
THIS IS IT – MY BIG IDEA
Do a book hunt. Place the books in a particular area, ( maybe at store, on a street, at the park etc). After they are hidden let the readers know the location.
Give us a time in which we should go look for them and see who can locate a book.
This would be like an easter egg hunt..
That would be so much fun !!!!!!
everyone submits ONE photograph of themselves that portrays their "ideal self" or a beautiful scene from a classic film.
everyone knows the photograph of audrey hepburn from breakfast at tiffany's… and these kinds of photographs create characters and inspire us to be stronger, more elegant, to live deeper and more fantastic every day – like the people photographed for this blog.
so the contest would be to create similar looking "cinema" scenes that emulate classic styles we all love. you would be able to judge the composition of the photograph, its creativity, and its capacity to inspire regular people in a world of high fashion and iconic stars.
the people who win could really use the book for more inspiration.-justine
March 17, 2010 at 2:48 pm
It's hard for some to compete with money, and maybe to much for 'the sartoriallist' to look through hundreds of fine photos or videos, make it easy and
have several maskerade parties somewhere and give away a book at each party (e.g four books four parties). the income from the parties go to charety. it profits everyone, even the ones that doesent wish a book…
March 17, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Personally I like one of the first comment idea with regards to choosing numbers. It is fairly simple and hassle free. Also, it seems fair because it all has to do with chance, not merits or opinions.
Hope I get the right number!!~Andy
March 17, 2010 at 2:52 pm
One book could be the prize of a contest (I love the personal inspiration book idea), while the rest get auctioned off for charity. Then it's for a good cause, AND those of us with less money also have shot at earning a gem.
Gene Wicker Jr
March 17, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I'd count the comments for January/February and reward those who have commented most often. That may leave me out, but it seems like the simplest thing to do.
March 17, 2010 at 3:03 pm
There was so many ideas for a contest that I wouldn't give mine. But I can't wait what will You choose! Of course i will participate:)
March 17, 2010 at 3:04 pm
a short paragraph on how to style, present, mood, and music of your ultimate Celine show. or a drawing or mood board
March 17, 2010 at 3:10 pm
i don't know if someone else already suggested this:
you set a deadline.everyone interested leaves a comment till the deadline (1 comment per person allowed).you decide a criteria to attribute numbers to comments (the easiest and best one is chronological order eg first comment: nr.1, second comment: 2, etc.).you pick the winners using a random number generator (on random.org you find one for free)
btw, this is the criteria normally used in other blogs for giveaway's attribution.
March 17, 2010 at 3:16 pm
i've never heard of an inspiration book! this is awesome.
a raffle seems like the most equitable way to do things, seeing that everyone wants a copy!
I think a contest would be better, because I just can't afford to take part in an auction for charity… Have people take a picture of themselves in a $50 or less outfit and pick the best!
March 17, 2010 at 3:19 pm
Best self portrait photo submitted…
March 17, 2010 at 3:23 pm
I think a contest would be a great idea, it should be something you feel confident in judging sooo we should all do our own street photos on any topic of interest and the best collection of compositions gets some booksI think I should get one just for this idea im quite proud lol
March 17, 2010 at 3:27 pm
give away one to the best young/emerging blog writer! Also for future participations! To help develop the community.
March 17, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Ebay auction for HAITI, with funds going to Partners in Health http://www.standwithhaiti.org
I like sumbissions from Sart blog readers about their favorite fashion object…or the Celine Haiku! Both may inspire the creative side in your reader. The submissions would be limited to one entry per person and the length of the fav fashion object would be a short 50-100 word essay about their distinctive fashion item
give us some epic photos and let us comment on them – then you choose the most interesting reflections
March 17, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Meh, Just post one to me. Less fuss.
March 17, 2010 at 3:34 pm
It's an inspiration book right, so why not challenge everyone to describe something that INSPIRED them on a Tuesday and then describe what they did to pass the inspiration on to someone else. The person with the story that inspired YOU the most wins. It might not be as simple as picking a random number but it could be the start of a good thing. (Why Tuesday? well, becuase it's the most boring day of the week)
March 17, 2010 at 3:42 pm
To keep things rather simple perhaps ask people to comment on their views of the Celine show and use a random number generator (i.e. http://www.random.org/) to choose certain numbered posts at random as the winners (would require either google id or some identifying factor in their post)
March 17, 2010 at 3:44 pm
How bout I win!
March 17, 2010 at 3:49 pm
What if we all sent you a picture – taken by us.
You pick your top favorites as the winners!
March 17, 2010 at 3:51 pm
The easiest way to do this kinda stuff is usually a giveaway. You give a due date for people to sign in, via comments, for example, and at the end you count them and then pick a number at random. To make it more interesting, you could make it into some sort of contest, I guess..people should comment on something specific or something like that.
Tears of Joy
As much as I would love to win one via a poem/haiku about how fashion speaks to you personally, or the pick a number option etc. I feel that charity auction is the way to go – even knowing that I would not have the money to purchase one.Thank you to both you and Garance for the option of gaining a beautiful inspiration piece.
March 17, 2010 at 3:53 pm
I'm really impressed with everyone's suggestions, I love them all.
If you have say four books, why not auction one for charity, do one as a random contest (guess a number), one a creative essay, and one a photo contest. Some of these photo contests ideas are brilliant, I'd definitely enter that.
The only logistics problem with that is, your inbox would be flooded with jpg files! I don't know how you'd control that, apart from asking people to just submit one, and compressed, for goodness sake.
People are so nice. Or at least, the people who follow your blog!
March 17, 2010 at 4:01 pm
you should make everyone give you a beautiful poem, a wonderul picture(don't need to be taken by you, or a picture of you. just lovely pictures) or something.. i dont know. something more fun?
March 17, 2010 at 4:05 pm
i just wanted to say thanks for thinking of all of us! i love the image of the two of you gathering up the extra books like souvenir cups at at the end of a baseball game. knowing that there would be many readers here who would love to have one.
i don't have a preference as to the "contest" – a charity auction certainly seems to be the simplest with great value, but some of the more creative/involved ideas would be fun to watch and participate in!
March 17, 2010 at 4:07 pm
I like Aya Rosen's idea. I would love to see the pictures. Then all could get involved.
March 17, 2010 at 4:09 pm
The dea of reader's influences or daily things sounds pretty nice.
When I pay attention, I dress for the Sartorialist, just in case you are in DC.
I would get a kick out of seeing what others wear regularly, or why they wear what they wear.
March 17, 2010 at 4:15 pm
set a brief (photographic or otherwise), have participants upload, have public judge… winners! little work for you fun for us. =)
Julia, the Thanksgiving Girl
March 17, 2010 at 4:18 pm
So many good ideas already!
March 17, 2010 at 4:19 pm
I think it should be a fair contest, if any. And will it be just for the U.S. or over the whole world? I guess you and Garance will have to figure out how much work you would like to spend on this contest. But I really think it should be about something creative. Otherwise you could auction it off for charity since anyone could have it anyway. But I would like to suggest a competition of some sort, since I have to be a little bit selfish and want the book myself. :)
March 17, 2010 at 4:20 pm
It's hard for some to compete with money in an auction, and maybe to much for 'the sartoriallist' to look through hundreds of fine photos or videos, make it different and

March 17, 2010 at 4:28 pm
To annom 12:27,
I love celine, but cannot afford any of the clothes yet to wear.
March 17, 2010 at 4:33 pm
i've been trying to find one of these.i am willing to pay money.charity?
March 17, 2010 at 4:36 pm
submit a photo showcasing your style and you choose your favorites!
March 17, 2010 at 4:43 pm
Perhaps the contest could be a marriage of both creativity and charity? I like the idea of auctioning it off for a good cause, but seeing as the ratio of people who'd love a chance at this book to the people who could afford to go into a bidding war for it is out-proportioned, that doesn't seem fair.
Maybe you use some of the creative ideas left in the comments, such as choosing a few sartorially inventive photo submissions from readers, and then making the inspiration book available to your selected winners for a set, straight to charity cost?
March 17, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Whoever can identify the most images . . . is that Mark Sptiz on the right?
March 17, 2010 at 4:48 pm
set a time, the first to respond in e mail get the books. simple.
March 17, 2010 at 4:56 pm
You should have people send you a picture of them in a Celine inspired outfit. They can tell you how Celine inspired their outfits. Since you are giving away inspiration books that inspired Celine, you can get photos of those inspired by Celine.
March 17, 2010 at 5:04 pm
contest- send in a photo of your coolest outfit which señor scott also will publish
March 17, 2010 at 5:10 pm
How about a photography competition?
March 17, 2010 at 5:11 pm
How about a Sartorialist scavenger hunt?
Pick 10 items or so that readers have to find in photos on The Satorialist blog. The first x number to find all 10 items and post the links to the photos in the comment section win.
March 17, 2010 at 5:13 pm
Have contestants re-create the best Celine Summer 2010 "look" for under 150$…Have them send in photos and the best looks/photos/overall styles win!
March 17, 2010 at 5:20 pm
I love the idea of a photocontest, but I hate to think about your mailbox being inundated with jpgs and pngs!
I propose a writing contest prompting 50 words or less on the Celine woman: what makes her unique, what type of woman is she, why is she inspiring to you individually?
Expect many passionate responses abut how Celine inspires men and women daily. Choose which answer is most inspiring to you!
March 17, 2010 at 5:24 pm
What about a BINGO?it´s pretty cool and simple…
in my country there´s a common phrase: "Wallet kills Hunk"
March 17, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Hey Scott, you are a connoiseur of style, so what better than have your readers give their definition of style in a sentence?
March 17, 2010 at 5:34 pm
Sorry if this has already been suggested. Whynot a vote on the best outfit on the entire site. Then random draw the winner from those who voted for the most popular choice?
March 17, 2010 at 5:37 pm
A trivia contest with an answer being a different designer. first one to answer correctly wins!
March 17, 2010 at 5:46 pm
This has been the best publicity at all.
The rest is just an info at the website of Celine. The booklet should be offered in the stores and of course online.
Nothing more and nothing less.
But if you think it is an important item with amazing themes and informations, you can try it at steidlville.
March 17, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Maybe a photo contest?
The best (nr) pictures win…
March 17, 2010 at 6:00 pm
I think that an auction for charity would be best.. this way true Celine fans would get it and it would benefit charity.
March 17, 2010 at 6:03 pm
The photos are great! When you have a system for giving them out let me know. I like the numbers game but of course it depends on how many you have to give out.X0X0ang
March 17, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Because not everyone is a good photographer, writer or good looking for a great shot, maybe using a random number generator is the most global option. This way anyone can win.
March 17, 2010 at 6:09 pm
maybe a contest for the best photo caption to one of your photos? those books look amazing!!
March 17, 2010 at 6:35 pm
I think you should make it a photo contest, taking inspiration from the photos of yours that we obsess over! =)
March 17, 2010 at 6:36 pm
A comment seems more straightforward and less fussy than a picture so maybe a comment that links Celine with some of the pictures in this blog? Which picture captures well the Celine style and why? Something short –150 words or something like that– and choose the winner at random with the random number generator at random.org
Having said that, I would support the idea in the post of an ebay auction for charity. There are so many needs and charities need all the support they can get.J
March 17, 2010 at 6:40 pm
S&G, what a great idea this is. So considerate of you two and this game benefits your readers, your blog and Celine. win, win, win!
I read about the first half of these comments and I think one of the first ideas was the strongest:A Celine vs. Look-alike photo contest, with the most right answers winning one of the books. That way, the game rewards true Celine die-hards while not excluding those who aren't so well versed but still love learning about fashion.
I own my life
March 17, 2010 at 6:44 pm
just write down all our addresses and you just randomly choose one… scroll down your mouse and stop lol
March 17, 2010 at 6:45 pm
The images were gathered together for a reason, bound together in a book to give people an idea of what inspired the result, why it came to be the way it was.Get people to identify the links between what is displayed in the book and what was presented in the collection.
Love the caption idea above. Don't have to be a creative pro to do well at that. While I'm all for charitable giving, making this a competition based on money is a bit of a turn off…
March 17, 2010 at 6:49 pm
please… just give me one. looking at these pages is making me go crazy!!
March 17, 2010 at 6:50 pm
FIGHT TO THE DEATH
March 17, 2010 at 7:03 pm
I say something very rationnal (maybe someone already propose it, but i don't read all teh answers…).
- You create a mail (exple: email@example.com) - ask everyone to send a mail guessing how many participants will play- set a finish date- at this date, see who the closest to the real result, and if there is many people who got the right answer, who still have the date of their mail to sort them.
Quite easy, no way to cheat and you sure have the right coordinate of the winners.
March 17, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Not so long ago, during the Balmainia, nobody cared about Celine – Ivana Omazic's collections simply went under. Now that Phoebe's here… well, we all know the rest. Everyone's talking about the Celine woman, although it's not quite certain who she is. So let's talk about how an old French house (now Celine, before it Balmain, and there are other examples, too) can change its should-we-pay-any-attention-to-it? status so rapidly. Because that's what happened – less than a year ago, everyone wanted the brash Michael Jackson jacket, not the practical coat in navy.
March 17, 2010 at 7:11 pm
How about this; Select your favourite Sartorialist photo (or one of your many favourites!), and re-create it starring yourself!
and there could be categories ie. most spitting image reproduction, most quirky yet recognisable reproduction, best derivative etc.
How many books do you have to give away?
March 17, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Ebay auction for charity. Maybe for small awards for photography or fashion design students?
March 17, 2010 at 7:28 pm
raffle for charity…..1USD per ticket, and all proceeds go to forgotten cause: children living with HIV/AIDS.
March 17, 2010 at 7:33 pm
i know, i know!
take a picture of a massive jar of jelly beans, and have us guess how many are in it.
March 17, 2010 at 7:42 pm
random number generator
March 17, 2010 at 8:02 pm
The idea of a raffle seems most fair. Anyone who is interested can buy a ticket and have a chance to win, unlike an auction. A raffle might generate more donations which could go to charity, such as Keep a Child Alive, in honor of Alexander McQueen. You could film the raffle drawing and post it on your blog, almost like the Academy Awards. SMJ
March 17, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Perhaps an auction can be held with proceeds going towards Haiti and Chile earthquake releif. Donating never goes out of style, after all. ;)
March 17, 2010 at 8:10 pm
A STREET FASHION PICTURE CONTEST!!!!!!!!!
March 17, 2010 at 8:11 pm
It will be interesting to see what you settle on. I do think it's nice of you to not automatically default to "auction". It's nice that anyone, no matter what their financial situation, can have the same chance to get this book. SO much in 'fashion'* is denied to people on lower incomes. That's all. xxo
* I realize that 'style' is open to anyone
March 17, 2010 at 8:12 pm
I like the charity idea – do that with one or two books and then just make a random draw between all the people who enter their wish for a book in a comment box – in this way, the people who really want a book can get one by buying it… and students or other less wealthy fashionistas (we like fashion as well but do not have the money to buy such an amazing book) will have a chance of getting our hands on one as well.
March 17, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Hmm….how about a contest for fashion haiku or limericks? Prizes for most creative, most clever, silliest? Points deducted if your limerick starts with "there once was a girl from Nantucket…"
March 17, 2010 at 8:44 pm
i think that each person should send a picture or drawing or description of the think they most adore in life. then who wins is who chooses the most beautifully creative and descriptive response. or maybe just you should choose people called hannah. because thats a great name. also good.
March 17, 2010 at 9:04 pm
I think we should take a picture of ourselves like how we dress everyday and send it to you.Whomever has the best/most interesting look gets a book.
March 17, 2010 at 9:12 pm
easy. we send in a photo of our most "satorialist" outfit and you judge.
March 17, 2010 at 9:25 pm
I say do a random drawing on comments for particular post and use a free sites random number generator, http://www.random.org/, to choose your winner. Everyone gets a chance since all they have to do is comment
March 17, 2010 at 9:26 pm
I like josephine's comment (12:56).We should show a photo of our favourite personal item and say why. Charity is a good idea but only those with the most money get one which isn't fair. Those who win could donate something though…?
M from TN
March 17, 2010 at 9:43 pm
1) The idea to send in a most "sartorialist" outfit is a good idea, but since not everybody's budget is in the same capacity how about you have a "thrifty sartorialist/recession sartorialist" contest. Everybody may submit an outfit, but how about some limits are placed (i.e. the outfit can not cost more than $200 overall, it must be all thrift, etc.)
2) art competition?
March 17, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Define "style" in 140 characters or less (like Twitter). Judged by either you, or us, or a combination of both.
March 17, 2010 at 9:57 pm
I guess I am the only one thinking of a trivia contest.. iconic fashions/pieces matched with the designers who created them, or geat moments in fashion or something. This way you could wittle down the cache of those in the running (you will have hundreds, maybe thousands of entries).. and then have a "fashion-off" where the highest scoring ten get some bonus round, or something like that. Not too much trouble for you, concrete results and scores, and you educate us at the same time.
March 17, 2010 at 10:22 pm
i suggest something a little creative competition
- an illustration- a collage- a clothing design sketch- a poem
or maybe just use random.org and pick a number to get a winner?!
March 17, 2010 at 10:25 pm
Just using the LV vs Celine idea… what about… the man/woman you are now, and the man/woman you'd like to spend a day as… For example, as a small petite woman… I'd like to spend a day as a tall amazing man… someone like Alber Elbaz, Karl Lagerfeld or George Clooney. Ppl can vote on the most creative, inspiring, relatable, etc.
March 17, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Clearly you must require each participant to submit a fashionable self portrait and then select the top three for the audience to decide the first place winner.
March 17, 2010 at 10:29 pm
I check your blog everyday when getting home from work. I've always been a style addict. I think you should ask everyone whether they are style aficionados or not.
March 17, 2010 at 11:18 pm
I think you should auction them for charity
Jean Floressas des Esseintes
March 17, 2010 at 11:49 pm
How about a contest of whose fan's blog is most interesting, this way he/she could demonstrate that he'd put the inspiration book to good use.. in case they have no blog, we should create a blog for the blog-less people where they could post interesting images/works of art/ etc so that they would compete with the people who have blogs.. the most originals and interesting should win.
Just my two cent's worth..
March 17, 2010 at 11:54 pm
Just give it to the cutest girl – me.
Shoot into the Sun
March 17, 2010 at 11:55 pm
Highest per posting percentage of Phoebe Philo/Celine mentions by bloggers interested in the book.
I am so curious to see it! Hope the winner will post scans for us all. The clothes are so minimal by the photos have this sexy slightly gritty vibe. Makes me look at the collection differently.
March 18, 2010 at 12:27 am
i think a raffle would be the least complicated and most fair.
March 18, 2010 at 12:37 am
why not have a sartorialist competition whereby everyone takes a snapshot of a random person on the street and emails them in. the best will get shortlisted and loaded on the website where people will view and vote.
March 18, 2010 at 12:48 am
An auction for charity is a great idea. Something local, like a homeless shelter, or food baskets for poor families. Maybe get a big company to double the final bid and add to the donation.
March 18, 2010 at 1:34 am
I think that you should split it up…
Give a couple out to loyal fans who lack in the cash. We could submit via email a picture of ourselves dressed to express our personal style. Then you could also post the winners so those of us who are not fortunate enough to live in a fashion centre could end up gracing your space…
The rest should be auctioned off to support a charity of your choosing.
That way everyone wins.
PS~ Pick me!
March 18, 2010 at 1:41 am
Ask people to submit something (anything, e.g., answer a question) and make it easy on yourself by putting the entrants names in a list and using a random number generator. No subjectivity whatsoever.
my vote goes to auction for charity! Dress for success is a fantastic and relevant cause!
March 18, 2010 at 2:42 am
Charity, definitely! Auction one or two on eBay to raise significant money. Raffle tickets for the rest to allow everyone a chance to win. All proceeds go to a fashion-related charity like Dress for Success.
March 18, 2010 at 2:43 am
post a recent inspiration you've seen in the world around you. no messy collages, no 200 word count essays… just a simple object and a sentence explaining why.
eh… its an idea
March 18, 2010 at 3:06 am
I like the idea of people takes photography of themself. Or just a auction for charity.
March 18, 2010 at 6:15 am
Just have everybody post a picture of themselves in their favourite outfit and then you choose the ones you like the most? Simple, creative and fun. :)
March 18, 2010 at 6:21 am
Let people send in their own best Sartorialist picture and the best one wins.
March 18, 2010 at 6:26 am
AUCTION FOR CHARITY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 18, 2010 at 6:40 am
Put a time frame and create a space in which participants can post their most flaboyant outfit, let us vote, and the ones who get the most votes win!
March 18, 2010 at 6:47 am
You choose an image from the booklet, invite us to write a poem in response to the image, PP chooses her favorite poems – winning poets receive booklet – free poems for everyone.
March 18, 2010 at 6:51 am
OOOOOO, I like the Josephine comment too but how about relating it to you and what both you and Garance do? Have people send in their looks and you guys can judge who's the most sartorial and trendy?!
OOO I just noticed that someone posted the same idea up!!! So two for the look idea?!
March 18, 2010 at 7:15 am
While an auction for charity in theory sounds like the nicest idea, and it's a wonderful thought that probably tons of people will be bidding and no doubt a tidy sum will come out of it for a good cause, but it's not really the fairest thing to do! A lot of your readers don't have the finances to be able to bid and would still love to have the chance to get one! I have no idea how many of these books you have, but in case you have a few, the best idea would be to take some of them and put them on e-bay for charity and take the other half for a creative competition, to give fans who don't have the resources a shot at winning the book! Fair and square : )
March 18, 2010 at 7:34 am
I vote for all of those who voted Charity causes. There must be a way to make this great idea have good ends to fashionable means.
The winners of whatever contest send a contribution to you for the book, and Scott and Garance should choose a charity close to their hearts!!
Antigone & Ismene
March 18, 2010 at 7:57 am
Maybe it can be a photography contest, which would be more coherent with the prize AND your blog. I suggest the best "book" of fashion pictures done by an amator wins. Maybe we can fix it to like 5 pictures so that people can really express what they want through their pictures because just one wouldn't be enough.Thoughts?
March 18, 2010 at 8:20 am
how about letting guess the number of pictures in the book?!
March 18, 2010 at 8:21 am
maybe you can hand them out to whomever sends you the best sartorial-photograph :D a way of sharing inspiration.
greetings from holland,
March 18, 2010 at 8:30 am
honestly have no ideas as the only one is spinning in my head that's a book to die for :)) so going on to live on your and garance blogs (more than usually) to see what comes out.
March 18, 2010 at 8:40 am
I also like Josephine's (12.56 PM) idea! Especially the part that everybody has something they cherish, so everybody can compete!
Because of the amount of work you and Garance have to do for this competition.. I think that the text should be 200 words max. Base it on its very essence: why is it so important to you.
Are you and Garance also signing the books? Haha!
I'm curious which idea it is going to be! Ciao
March 18, 2010 at 9:06 am
charity of course!
March 18, 2010 at 9:08 am
Charity auction for Haiti, please!!
March 18, 2010 at 9:34 am
How about, you blindly [maybe a satin blindfold could come in useful..!] scroll up and down the comments list. count to ten. open your eyes and whoever's comment the cursor is pointing at is the winner. Simple, no?
March 18, 2010 at 10:00 am
Ebay for charity. I'm sorry I'm a sucker for fashion but what comes 2nd is the environment. If you cant go out where will you look stunning and for who? Where can you get all your awesome materials if there were natural resources.
March 18, 2010 at 10:51 am
Send an a photo that has inspired you style choices and a photo of yourself with the interpretation.
March 18, 2010 at 11:23 am
Why dont you put all the pages of this inspiration book on your blog so that everybody can enjoy and eventually print them out.. and give the books to art schools libraries or just young people interested in the way good fashion, designer, companies, tick!
Question though is how does Celine gets away with this kind of book?? do they name all photographers?? how about copy right?? what would be your point of view whenever your picture ends up in a book like this and it is not for internal use?? Knowing that phoebe at celine is doing a great job but imagine that the marketing division of any ordinary clothing company is doing this?? kd rgds MS
March 18, 2010 at 11:49 am
have everyone make their own inspiration collage and send it to you.
March 18, 2010 at 11:50 am
me = selfish = CONTEST OR RAFFLE YAY!
March 18, 2010 at 11:58 am
haha it'd be lucky enough to get one, simply bc i adore that shot of linda by meisel.
March 18, 2010 at 12:12 pm
FUN! I'm storming my brain…
(Also, it would be 'an Ebay post')
Maybe someone has already chimed in with this, but how about a "what inspires you" contest? I don't think there's a way to post photos in comments, so I guess it would need to be a (short!) essay contest… 100 words or less on what inspires you, why and how.
March 18, 2010 at 12:20 pm
Since you have a few, what about contest, the person who best describes why they are A Sartorialist (in 10 words otherwise you'll be reading the comments forever or you can use one of those programmes to choose a comment at random?) wins and an auction for charity (of your choice?).
March 18, 2010 at 12:31 pm
Who ever gives you the best idea wins.
March 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm
I think a pretty awesome subject is trends… specially old ones. For exaple which where the trends someone used to hate but now that they're back loves them… or which trends you were dying to get back or hoping they never will… or how the old trends are now reinterpret… i dont know but i like to see a bit of retro nostalgia, a bit of old fashion culture and how to pull it off…I hope you liked it! Have a nice day!
March 18, 2010 at 12:54 pm
As with Isabel's Otway boots, I don't think you realize how BIG this contest could be, Scott. I LOVE the idea of a charity auction and eBay reaches the world. Let the winner decide of a charity dear to her/his heart as well as winning this amazing book.Sheer genius in picking these glossies up at the fashion show. THis will be written up in VOGUE… I guarantee it.THANK YOU!!!
March 18, 2010 at 1:31 pm
since its stella, how about an ebay auction in favour of PETA?
david and clive
March 18, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Hello, I think the suggestion to have a number lottery is the most fair. While an auction with proceeds going to charity is admirable, some may not participate if they don't have discretionary money. And while a photo contest would be a lot of fun for us to see, it would be time consuming for you to pick the winners. Why not use the auction idea for another hot commodity? And the submit your own photo contest could be a separate event/post too…
I was just going to say a photo/essay contest about our favorite piece of clothing, but I see Josephine beat me to it! So, what she said!
March 18, 2010 at 1:54 pm
+1 for the poetry idea! Something art related.
March 18, 2010 at 2:23 pm
Contest Idea:You reveal 10-15 images from the inspiration book.We create our own look using this inspiration and you select your favorites.
March 18, 2010 at 2:39 pm
I think in addition to the contest you should Democratize!!!!!
By that, I simply mean, you could digitally scan and digitally distribute the content. Since it was given away for free, it can distributed for free. Advantages? Spread art on a wide-scale form.
Anyone who is afraid it might harm their intent for exclusivity, is mixing two ideas.
Just my two cents on where 2010 and the future is heading.
Keep up the great work et salut moi Garance!
March 18, 2010 at 3:59 pm
Followers photo contest… I'm sure lots of fans think they can take a picture just as beautifully as you do. Let's see them try.
March 18, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Get rid of three books via a contest and auction the rest. For the cntest have people sumbit their own inspirational fashion/lifstyle photos.
Fiend's Brave Victim
A caption competition for this photo:
This photo being the first photo on a google image search for 'Celine caption competition'.
My entry: 'The inspiration books were on the chairs when they arrived, but Scott and Garance still weren't sure they'd gone to the right place for the Celine show'.
March 18, 2010 at 4:37 pm
The EASIEST you say?
Make a post that's for entries. People leave a comment to enter. Only 1 comment allowed per person. You use a random number generator like: http://www.random.org/ and put in 1 as the min and however many comments as the max.the number that comes out is the number of the commenter who then wins.do this over for however many books you're giving away!
March 18, 2010 at 4:38 pm
I think it would be amazing if you do a photography contest. Where people take one photograph that explains why they want the book, and why they love fashion, and you and Garance judge the winner.
March 18, 2010 at 5:22 pm
auction for that charity to help new designers!
March 18, 2010 at 5:45 pm
Creating a 100 word story behind any picture in your site.where the person (or teh shoe or the biccyle) was, where she was going, anything…the winner of cuorse is teh writer of the best story…fun no?
Mary Lou Wynegar
March 18, 2010 at 7:08 pm
I think a contest submitting a collection of photos showing fashion trends from your childhood/lifetime. If photos of children are involved, they should be of Yourself, or from (now)Adults who have given you permission to include their photo.
March 18, 2010 at 7:30 pm
What about sending you a pic inspired by your work? The ones you pic win the book and get to be published on the blog?
March 18, 2010 at 8:52 pm
Obviously this contest should be worldwide. And I think the winners could be picked randomly but they have to answer a simply question or make some effort to get in the game.
March 18, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Thank you for thinking of us, your "real" blog readers. I think you should just randomly pick one of your readers to give the book to…draw a name out of the hat so to speak. I think we would all be supportive of that person, with a tinge of jealousy thrown in!!:)As much as I am supportive of charities, I think giving it to one of us is a grand idea!!:) Thanks:)Karyne from Canada!
March 18, 2010 at 10:11 pm
these books seem simply lovely.in order for us to get our hands on them i suggest a contest much like Denim Debutante does and have everyone leave a comment, use the random number generator, and that number comment wins.
March 18, 2010 at 11:04 pm
Girly Girl vs Unisex/TomBoy style
March 18, 2010 at 11:43 pm
How about auctioning off the books for charity, but posting the contents online, so everyone can see?
March 18, 2010 at 11:46 pm
Why not auction them off on e-bay for charity, but post (at least some of) the pictures on the blog so the poorer readers can see?
March 19, 2010 at 1:25 am
Hi Scott! I just love your enthusiasm! I would definitely suggest a CREATIVE CONTEST. I think a RAFFLE would just go against your student/teacher philosophy. You know, your book. Passing along the torch. Contributing to creative voices that are unable to express themselves in this incredibly exclusive, rich sport called fashion. The times, they are a changin'! As far as CHARITY, I admire your offer, but you have far more valuable ways to help the needy. I think the value of the Celine lookbook holds greater inspirational value than monetary value. CREATIVE CONTEST IDEAS: – best Celine inspired collage – best personal style photograph – best fashion blog – best fashion design drawingHope this info helped! All the best,
♡ from Texas – Kristi Redman
March 19, 2010 at 2:30 am
I like what anon "12:56pm" suggested (Josephine). I think thats a great idea!
March 19, 2010 at 4:42 am
A good old fashioned raffle. Simple and fair….
March 19, 2010 at 5:27 am
Kind of number lottery: all comments are numbered, numbers are written on pieces of old newspaper and thrown in a vintage hat. Then Ms Garance takes the numbers blindly. The picked up numbers are winners.
March 19, 2010 at 5:55 am
How about you put a some photo you like, ask the readers to comment on it, write a headline etc. so that you can chose your favorite lines?By the way, great idea to pick more books at the show!
March 19, 2010 at 6:20 am
Well, to add to the 206 comments already here (sorry if you and Garance are trawling through this, Scott), the raffle idea is the best. It is fair, objective, everyone can afford it and the money raised would go to a worthy cause.
Thank-you for the opportunity to win them, as well. Everyobdy loves Celine!
March 19, 2010 at 6:42 am
Why don't you ask everyone to submit one image which is their own inspiration and also one word to go with it?!
You pick what appeals to you.
March 19, 2010 at 7:46 am
is it the new The Gentlewoman magazine or sth else ?? (fantastic man sister mag)

A contest of written word, 200 or less. Subject could be what we consider to be the single most important accessory that makes "our" look or anyone's look.

why not a simple guessing game as to how many pages are in the look books?kinda of like how many m&m's are in a glass jar kinda thing…

A trivia contest.
March 19, 2010 at 7:03 pm
a contest called "How Sartorialist Are You?" submit your photo and the the judges from The Sartorialist itself pick the winner that can represent The Sartorialist :)
March 19, 2010 at 10:01 pm
Why don't you do a contest in which people have to photograph the most stylish, inspirational, or unique people they see-whether it be on the streets or in their home. Whoever comes up with the best photograph of a great overall sartorial look wins!

How about, give it to your favorite blogs/bloggers (except the ones you personally know)?
March 20, 2010 at 1:56 am
The most simple is easiest?
I was thinking perhaps, each person could write a few sentences on perhaps what inspires them? What inspired them to love fashion? What inspires them when they open their wardrobe? Who/what is their inspiration?
It could as simple as a song, a certain person, a book, an image or a place.
I feel that it gives a certain depth and a deeper insight to the people who read your blog.
Also, I personally believe that the sending photos of themselves in their best outfits is not in the true spirit of the satorialist. I think that the satorialist is a small insight into what people wear regardless of a competition or if there is a camera pointing at them. They wear the clothes to suit themselves. Just pure style.

In the spirit of battle.
The Satorisliat vs. Garance Dore?
Who inpsires you more?

I wonder if I'm too late to comment. Hmmm. Something makes me nuts when people "shriek" in comments to "pick me." Or "I want it, wah." So, this curmudgeon who labors on behalf of humanitarian causes mainly overseas ( I live in DC) would love love love it if you did an auction for charity. As a (yes, published) poet, also, forget it about above. We don't need to win prizes.
Please do an auction for HIV/AIDS relief, clean water, World Food Programme…along those lines. I will keep my work out of it. What about Haiti relief? As things as bad as they are, there are some great artists & folks of style (made from nearly nothing)…just saying.
Thanks to you & Garance for the humane impulse.

I'm sort of seconding "Funmeg" (12:35), an auction sounds great for charities, but dissapointing for meagerly employed Sartorialist-heads like myself. Her fabulous idea about a lunch date with Mr. Sartorialist would make for an amazing afternoon! Or, simply trudging around the streets for a day to watch the eye behind the lens. As per the Celine contest: Creative avenues via writing or collages are generally accessible to all.

Random number generator!
And the word verification word I have to type in is "squiteer"…isn't that a cool word?!
March 21, 2010 at 1:18 am
ebay auction, all profits go to your favorite charities. payment and shipping is all arranged through the ebay and paypal sites.
March 21, 2010 at 8:45 am
send a picture of yourself in your favorite outfit. The Sartorialist judges the best one…
March 21, 2010 at 9:23 am
How about a" photography" contest? The best "sartorialistic" picture (street style, fashion show or anything fashion related) sent over by a reader…
March 21, 2010 at 1:18 pm
I agree with Cath! You can just ask people to post with a random number and then you choose a num, whoever got the number or could in some way relate to the num, for example, contains the num or can be multied or divided by the num, gets one copy. You could set up a starting time and do it on a first come first serve basis.

a contest like The New Yorker caption contest? entrants write a caption to a photo that you post. sounds like a lot of work for you, tho!
The "pick a number between 1 and whatever" sounds like the easiest.
March 21, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Can I just have the book please? Haha=)
I saw the video of the show on style.com. It's awesome. Simplicity at its best. How can exaggerated pockets look so chic!? The feathers on the shoes are sooo clever=)
That being said, I guess you should give away the books to the best comment on the Celine show.
March 22, 2010 at 1:00 am
^^agree with aysha…relate it to this site. Get people send in their looks with catchy captions and location where photos were taken. Photos that 'jump into you' win.
March 22, 2010 at 2:26 am
How about selecting the winners via the best 'comment' entry? Considering this site is a blog and all… but have it set up where you enter your comment within a certain time frame and word limit on whatever question you (scott) are intrigued to know more of on mass and then select the winner. That way each person has to enter their contact details in order for you to privately contact and send the copy to. AND you could then post the winning comment on your blog page so that everyone can comment on the comment…

A photo submission of street style looks from your hometown. Everyone can participate and it will be in line with your blog. We can then get to see street style from all over the whole. The best pictures wins!
Scoring can come from the detailing of the person, maybe a little write up on their inspiration.
As not everyone as a powerful camera like yours, the photo quality shouldn't matter as much.
Hope this is a good idea for you!

I think u should give go to e bay and give the money to charity, maybe to Haiti. That should be really cool. I am studying a Peace Master and i am probably doing my thesis in Peace and Fashion.
March 22, 2010 at 9:09 pm
Please please please can I have one – I am a designer who just got made redundant and I really want to apply for a job with Celine- the inspiration book would really help me see how they think, in preparation for my interview!!!!Pretty please with cherries on top?
March 23, 2010 at 5:27 am
I'm agree, inspirational moodboards about a theme could be something stimulating for everyone. Another idea could be an autoportrait with a proposal of stylism of one of your posts…
