Beautiful photos, I love this kind of face for portraits!
July 18, 2013 at 9:22 am
I love his mischievous look. A man who works long and hard but has a side none of us will ever get to see, complete intrigue.

Power picture. Well done, Scott

I see what you meant when I met you at the Sydney book signing – you definitely had more to come with these Bali portraits!

it seems time s stopped in that pic

Brilliant in detail and DOF…he is the Marlboro Man of Bali, great portrait!

Cute little man. You can tell he works hard every day.

Now the entire flow chart of how to get one’s photo on the Sartorialist has to be re-worked.

What a shot ! Love it !
Don´t miss today my look with cropped top and boyfriend jeans
July 18, 2013 at 10:13 am
Wow. This photo is definitely refreshing. Although I truly appreciate the high-end Italian/French fashion we’ve been seeing lately, the authentic and rugged expression of these kinds of photos are more piercing.

these are by far my favorite photos from your website.
Thank you for sharing this man with us.

“Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
The whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
And you can tell that’s true”
July 18, 2013 at 1:35 pm
Yes, his eyes, the way he looks. What a beautiful pic.

Neil Young amazing artist, his voice is incredibly well-preserved even after some 50 years of singing. Old Man – great song, good music & lyrics http://lyricsmusic.name/neil-young-lyrics/harvest/old-man.html

Love to see what “common” people wear in places so far away mine.
July 18, 2013 at 12:13 pm
Loving these Bali photos! It’s great to see the fashion/culture mix. Keep it up!
July 18, 2013 at 12:15 pm
It’s interesting to see how other people live and work. He obviously works hard for his money and it shows, all sinews and muscle. Those eyes look like they’ve seen a lot of harvests.
July 18, 2013 at 12:22 pm
Pretty pictures. Can’t really get it why you posted them on a fashion blog?
July 21, 2013 at 4:08 am
Well, maybe because fashion is everywhere. Fashion is not just our western opinion of it. So let’s thanks Mr. Schuman for shared this beautiful pics with us.
July 27, 2013 at 4:41 pm
Maybe you need to broaden your definition of fashion.
August 10, 2013 at 12:01 pm
I don’t see it either. He’s clearly a peasant whose choice of clothes are likely not a representation of his taste. He likely can’t afford much. He likely is wearing that hat because it shieldshis face from the sun while he works, not as a fashion statement.

this is a gorgeous, unique photo!

Amazing shot! Love his expression and the landscape behind him.
July 18, 2013 at 4:11 pm
The best pose to date. He’s confident and we love it.
July 18, 2013 at 5:56 pm
Absolutely love the shot; hate the patronising caption.

Scan through the photos to the 2nd one. I had the same initial reaction, but you have to see all the pics to understand the reference.

Thanks hettie, I hadn’t picked up that it was a sequence. Partly also a reaction to the ‘cute little man’ comment above… Some people.

I don’t understand why this picture occured on a fashion blog? In my opinion, it shows how poverty is transformed into aesthetic object.
July 21, 2013 at 10:51 pm
I cannot explain that why i couldn’t have seen that ‘Awesome’ fashion until now :)
