La Cote d’Azur de Jacques Henri Lartigue.
Magnificient book of photographs of the 20′s and 30′s.
He was a photographer but also a painter and a writer.
I own and love this book and I’m a huge Lartigue fan. There’s sadness among the beauty though for the lost Riviera of dirt roads and uncrowded beaches. And Lartigue, sensitive as he was to the depiction of simple moments, enjoyed great wealth and was able to frame out imperfection from both his life and his images. This isn’t a criticism; as I said, I’m a fan, but one cannot look at these pictures without thinking about what isn’t shown.
