The darkened shadows really just make the dress’s colors pop. Although for this shot, I’m not a huge fan if the other posts and hydrant being in the frame. The colors are nice, but seem to draw away from her dress even more.

Its a beautiful photo. Its not about her dress, beautiful as it is, its about her. Thats why the shadows work so well.

Beautiful capture of shadows! Reminiscent of one of my favorite photographers Ansel Adams, and his use of contrast in compositions.

I usually try to keep the comments positive, on any site, but especially this one, since these photos are rarely of famous people who get paid to look good . . .
But, that being said, there is something about this look that I really can’t stand. lol. Could be that the bun is too smooth or her dress, which I don’t hate, but I don’t love either . . .
It’s probably because the look feels dated, especially with the dress + sandal combination.
I do love the contrast in this photo though, and that she’s on the phone.

I agree with all you are saying. This looks like an outfit for the beach, not the city. That said, I love how Scott is able to catch the light and focus on the subject while the background is dark – makes for very interesting photos!
May 5, 2013 at 2:02 am
I like the picture and the light and the color, and the dress looks great, but if she is in the city it would look much better with white jeans underneath. Looks like a beach dress to me too.

Love the photo and wish I could see more of the outfit. Looks awesome

Great dress. Is there a patched hole at the front? (the black bit?) That would make it better still..
