The only eye-catching item is polka dotted socks…Really impressing !
The outfits in general are ignorable as nothing special… http://www.ottomandandy.com
I am amazed that anyone can say something mainstream here!
Coming from London, and having spent all day, each day since Monday enjoying some of the most refreshingly naturally stylish people, polishing of the fine art of ‘Dandy-ism’, these two have to be the look of the week!
You can only say one thing – style!
For me it is totally about their ‘Hats’ …… well, and the Socks,…….. well, ok and the shoes,……. arrrrgh the coats are also slick….. especially the fitted sleeves!
The shot is so crisp and fresh! Love how the light and shadows play on this photo! And of course this couple looks very stylish!
Elena http://dcinstyle.com/
Besides the fact that this couple is in harmony (the hats !), the picture is amazing. The light and shadow on the faces and on the ground, the angle of the photo and the surroundings : perfection.
This pretty woman would better present herself in more feminine attire. Also, the socks are striking, but the viewer sees too much of them. I think that the pants should at least reach the tops of the shoes. The color and fabric choices of the couple are cool, but really, she should be in something more feminine.
Why on earth “should” she be in more “feminine” clothes? Both she and her partner look gorgeous, sharp, confident, comfortable, and happy.
Rigid adherence to or insistence upon outdated, restrictive gender norms is neither cute nor interesting.
De gustibus! I think that there are some gender/cultural norms which should be retained. You don’t. Differences of opinion, combined with wallets, are what makes the fashion world go around.
SGH, I’m all for differences of opinions and I agree that de gustibus non est disputandum, and all that jazz, but I’m not going to lie, your comment about gender norms angers me. It’s not like she’s holding a cigar and a cane, and even if she were, she’d look dapper doing it! Just imagine if she had a boy’s name! Escándalo total!
The thing is, none of us were born with clothes on your backs. The only thing covering your naked body when you came out of your mother’s womb was the amniotic fluid, ombilical cord and placenta. Considering that fact, I say gender norms, schmender norms! So if Kanye wants to rock a skirt, and if this indeed “pretty woman”, as you deemed her to be, wants to rock the hell out of a suit, I personally say, gimme some more!
Might I add that what works for you doesn’t necessarily apply to others. So while following cultural gender norms has been your own staple, she has decided not to! What is this, the gender gestapo?!
And this has nothing to do with the fact that I wore bow ties and suspenders as well as pretty little dresses to school as a kid and looked absolutely adorable in either, and that I could hold my own on a skateboard while I also did ballet and figure skating. Or maybe it does, because I rock, and so does she, and so do you in your gender normative clothes!
Also, if that is your opinion, you should start with something that indicates that it is, because “This pretty woman would better present herself…” reads like an a priori (fallacy).
The bottom line is: you can voice your opinion, however, speak for yourself, not for this “pretty woman”, as what is true to you, isn’t to her, since chances are she would not have stepped out of her home dressed as such, thinking she was not presentable, unless it was a dare or something of the sort.
You seem to enjoy Latin, therefore: Non uno vinculo vincit vinciens diversa (“one size does not fit all”).
I wonder what your opinion is on one of my favorite pictures on this site: http://www.thesartorialist.com/photos/at-dries-van-noten-paris-p-1/
What about Marlene Dietrich and her gender-bending fashion? Women with boys names, as I previously joked? Or haircuts à la garçonne?
I’m not mocking you, I am genuinely curious.
Funny you should say that Monsieur Marcel, I saw the picture before the title and for some reason thought it was modern-day New York immediately! But instead, it’s a perfectly executed Harlem Renaissance look from across the pond!
What an awesome shot – I normally am not into suits like this on women, but she looks incredible. He looks great too – more proof of what good tailoring can do!
I believe the funky sox ruin the look. The line is messed up
when the sox do not match either the pants or the shoes.
That is a cardinal rule from Alan Flusser ( sic ), Robert Pante’,
the Duke of Windsor, and down through the ages.
Some basics should never be broken.
What attention to the detail of their look and captured beautifully in the best light. This look is obviously not for everyone and very very few people could carry it off. But this is what I would call pure style
Gawd, I luv a woman in a suit and tie! They look beautiful. My own preference would be for them to be a little less matching – they look a bit as if they share one identity. But lovely. I feel all warm towards them, and for some odd reason, protective!
Go to school a few feet from there; funny to know you’ve been lurking about with a camera! You caught the area in just the right light. Hope you’re enjoying your stay, in town for Fashion week I suppose?
