purposely popped collars.
come on sartorialist!
April 12, 2006 at 11:38 am
i like the jacket and pants but what’s the point of removing the shoelaces? that just seems a little silly to me.
April 12, 2006 at 11:40 am
This is sloppy, not preppy!
April 12, 2006 at 11:42 am
don’t you think this “preppy” is done with a healthy does of Lower East Side irony?
The jacket is to small, the shoes, the popped collari think he is in on the joke

It’s tough – there is some irony certainly – but that jacket might be one of the 1k$ Paul Smith numbers, which is a fair bit to pay for a joke. I agree that the 80′s preppy summer is about to crank up the volume – though it’s front runner, the lacoste shirt has long since oversaturated.I think perhaps he is just a bit too “LFO – Summer Girls” to get full irony points. A bit like Prince William in a nazi outfit…

Sartorialist, I’m with YOU. The popped collar is just taking the preppy trend and poking a little fun at it – and this guy obviously has the self-confidence to pull it off.

I love it! maybe these-lace free shoes are not a good idea. but otherwise I love his outfit!
April 12, 2006 at 1:35 pm
I would really, really, REALLY like to believe that he is in on the joke….
April 12, 2006 at 1:38 pm
There’s a lot of Kanye West influence in this look from the purposely popped collar and the unlaced shoes.
April 12, 2006 at 2:15 pm
If this is ironic, irony is overrated.
April 12, 2006 at 3:55 pm
Kanye West does dress like that.
April 12, 2006 at 4:21 pm
I can’t tell ih he’s in on the joke, or if he’s trying too hard to do the 80′s look.I aslo don’t get a sense of irony from this look.
April 12, 2006 at 4:34 pm
fresh,love the look
April 12, 2006 at 4:36 pm
omg the popped collar realy is terrible. a sweater would have been so much nicer
April 12, 2006 at 4:44 pm
I’d chance it, to be honest. Why not? Fashion should be fun and if you poke fun at yourself a bit in the process, so what, should enjoy dressing!
April 12, 2006 at 4:49 pm
He reminds me of one of the “cool jock” types that used to beat on the nerds in the 80′s movies. It works on him I guess, but I don’t like the shoes.
April 12, 2006 at 5:29 pm
I like the jacket, nice outfit ;)
lil' sis a.k.a liina

cute i’ts an awmsome color and it’s very city like,(pity about the shoe laces!)
April 12, 2006 at 10:41 pm
Oh yes dutronc he does have a very ‘Jake Ryan’ look to him minus the plaid jacket.
April 12, 2006 at 10:51 pm
Remember the popped collar article in Details about a year ago? Even that criticism came too late, as typical for American fashion magazines. It is considered quite guache to wear one’s collars up these days. One reads magazines to see what not to do.
April 13, 2006 at 2:57 am
this outfit scares but not necessarily in a bad way? seems to be causing some controversy what with all the deleted responses. very interesting…
April 13, 2006 at 9:36 am
The fact that there as such differing opinions should tell you it works. The pictures where everyone agrees I find to be terribly dull.
April 13, 2006 at 10:13 am
I will get a jacket l ike that for sure this summer. But not a 1000$ PS, rather a vintage from Oxfam or similar.
April 13, 2006 at 4:30 pm
I like the look, except for the shoes, which are so new looking that they say: “I just put this outfit together yesterday.”
April 13, 2006 at 7:48 pm
blue is my fave color the shoelaces might be a little dangerous but otherwise it is east village. (would it kill ya for a smile??!?)
April 13, 2006 at 11:31 pm
Oh come on, this look is hot. He seems to be having fun with it and thats what fashion should be. It’s laid- back, it’s east village, get over it!
April 15, 2006 at 12:04 am
LOL, that look is fantastic
April 15, 2006 at 1:52 pm
Anyone have any ideas where the guy got the jacket or the pants? They’re pretty sweet.
