Can one imagine this scene between 2 men in the U.S.? Not very likely. I need to move to Italy. Love the style of both of them.

The man on the right has something of the “Keith Richards” about him.

Europeans just have a natural way of being stylish. It’s encapsuled in all the little everday things they do. This looks like a fascinating conversation.
February 7, 2013 at 5:12 pm
Those italian men again ! “Sprezzatura” which means :
“Studied carelessness” or “elegance decontractee.”
This definition applies to them perfectly, beautifully.
February 7, 2013 at 5:35 pm
ok, coat AND scarf for a cigarette, please!

Beautiful shot. I wonder what they are talking about — there’s a story there I know. And, I notice that the Italian men wear socks when its cold! Just sayin’……
February 8, 2013 at 3:35 am
Haha! I used to think all men wear socks when it’s cold. But apparently we were both wrong. The most successful bloggers don’t apparently :)
February 7, 2013 at 7:21 pm
what a magnificent scarf! I want one!
February 7, 2013 at 10:28 pm
The body language and the faces of Sig. Squarzi and the younger man make it look like something shockingly terrible and sad has happened here. You’ve captured what looks like a very personal moment between these two people. It’s almost uncomfortable to look at. I can’t even really see what they’re wearing. There’s so much emotion they may as well be naked. Hope everything is ok…
April 27, 2016 at 8:51 pm
Agreed. Forget the clothes, how’s the emotion? This captures a moment of such intimacy, as to be verging on intrusive.
Italy really is in a league of its own where fashion = art.
February 7, 2013 at 11:09 pm
Italian men are really stylish.

“It’s ok, young man. Someday your coat will grow up to be as cool as mine.”
February 8, 2013 at 3:06 am
The guy on the right says to the other guy: “I’m sorry boy, don’t get mad but you can never be cool as me. Deal with it.”
February 8, 2013 at 3:19 am
OK – I’m off to buy white jeans tomorrow before the weather gets hot! Very good coat as well x
February 8, 2013 at 3:47 am

What the hell does happen in Florence? There are no other pictures of men like the ones from this town. Amazingly elegant!
February 8, 2013 at 5:59 am
you captured that italianita’ I see nobody else capable of. and I am Made in Florence.
February 8, 2013 at 8:03 am
“Don’t worry mate – we’ll find your scarf……”
February 8, 2013 at 8:04 am
Coats are incredible. we like this photo.
February 8, 2013 at 10:09 am
He left the right side of his coat at home.
February 8, 2013 at 11:59 am
Their faces are like from a painting from the 16th or 17th century. Great photo.
February 8, 2013 at 12:25 pm
once again….white jeans just look so cool and modern.
February 8, 2013 at 12:41 pm
Nice picture! I totally love it.
February 8, 2013 at 2:10 pm
OMG! I have a pair of fifteen year old suede Cole Haan brogans just like then man on the right. I am going to go and dig them out of my closet right now. Never thought to pair them with dark brown socks? Leave it to those stylish Italians.
February 8, 2013 at 2:22 pm
Beautiful shot, lovely gesture, great faces, but the look is Goodwill, not sprezzatura.
February 8, 2013 at 2:45 pm
Stylish, but maybe slightly too studied? Maybe that’s sprezzatura, or maybe I’m just getting too old.
A man on a search for style in middle age
February 8, 2013 at 9:35 pm
Everyone commented on the jackets & scarf, which are great, but what I found most interesting is how different this picture feels if you cut out the pants & shoes. It changes their style & the dynamics of the conversation they’re having.
February 9, 2013 at 6:20 am
Bellisimo….as always…The very very nice Italian Men… RICH OF POOR
February 10, 2013 at 9:25 am
I am as old (if not older!) as the gent on the right and the picture is an inspiration for me and my generation. I wear what I feel good in and not what others think I should wear!! Brilliant picture
February 10, 2013 at 5:28 pm
I absoloutely love this look, the layering and tones are fantastic, but I think what give this picture its authenticity, as such, is his age-if a younger guy was wearing this it would still be fantastic but feel maybe more superficial, created for the fashion image, but this is completely his style, which just makes it so much better. This is also such a good unisex look.
February 11, 2013 at 10:41 pm
The man on the right has weird hair (Kramer) and looks too fussy. If he moves, that coat is falling off his shoulder… and his socks …uh uh. Just because they’re Italian doesn’t mean they are instantly amazing… in my book:)
February 14, 2013 at 8:01 am
Weird hair? Seriously?
Of course being from Italy or any other country doesn’t make anyone instantly amazing! Thinking that would be dumb. Equally dumb would be to criticize “just because”, without taking context into consideration.
They both have their coats resting on their shoulders, they both are standing still and the young man on the left is lighting a cigarette. This looks like it’s been shot during a break, they probably covered themselves just for a few minutes, something a lot of people do when out for a smoke.
Btw, the gentleman on the right is holding his coat on his right shoulder with his right arm, so even if he moves around a bit it won’t fall off. I do this all the time, just because you don’t doesn’t mean it doesn’t work.
February 20, 2013 at 8:20 am
Splendid. Effortless yet so rich in layers.. inspiring! Thank you for giving us this!
