Perfect, good style. Very italian.
May 26, 2006 at 8:58 am
This fat bald man (you said it first) looks impeccable.
May 26, 2006 at 9:36 am
Did you notice his briefcase? Just lovely, so old world fundamental. Can you still buy these briefcases as new somewhere?
May 26, 2006 at 9:42 am
This is the same guy from a few weeks ago, no? He looks fantastic. Great fit, as before, and great color matching.

If I ever get fat (I am sure someday) or bald (probably not, Iberian genetics) I would dress like this. Something to look forward to. Cigar finishes the look.

Did you just happen to run into him again, or are you and him “friends” now? How many of these pics are true “finds” rather than appointments with people you know?

Love him, love the suit.
Why don’t more men get their suits tailored to fit? It makes the world of difference between schlumpy and stylish. Just look at how confident and stylish this man is!
May 26, 2006 at 12:20 pm
He looks great but calling him fat bald man is mean, even is he is :(
May 26, 2006 at 12:44 pm
i like the the way he knots his necktie “corto e grosso” which literally means short and fat.
May 26, 2006 at 1:33 pm
- first “Fat, Bald Man” was a post i did about this guy a little while ago. I called it that b/c that is what he called himself when i asked to take his picture – that post was one of my best received ever because it really celebrates style in all its sizes
- for 10:23amI just happened to run into him again. He did remember me and we realized we had friends in common. funny thing, I shot this pic and the one of Jay Kos from 5/18 on the exact same street corner about five minutes apart. I had just run into Jay and after he left i was checking the shot and then here comes Fat Bald Man – i will do a profile on him soon so we can all learn a bit from a master Sartorialist

That look would make anyone melt. Seems terrible to call him fat and bald considering his excellent style makes him so attractive that one wouldn’t notice his heft, really at all, or the lack of hair. He’s just a very well dressed man who always looks good, if you ask me.
Oh but that’s what he called himself. Well, in that case this guy needs to have a long hard look in the mirror after he’s dressed in the mornign and realize he’s a babe.

How do I get a date with this guy?
May 26, 2006 at 3:52 pm
The fat bald man strikes again…and I’m sure he’s smoking a good Cuban cigar.
May 26, 2006 at 4:22 pm
you can buy a briefcase like that in various places in milan, the most famous is perhaps valextra (www.valextra.it), but i also recommend Franzi 1864 (via palermo 5, milan), they make really wonderful pieces.
May 26, 2006 at 4:53 pm
The FBM rocks. It’s so true that a few perfect pieces are better than all the Old Navy crap in the world but how many of us actually live by that rule? Not me, unfortunately.
May 26, 2006 at 5:10 pm
It’s a stylish George Costanza!
May 26, 2006 at 5:50 pm
He’s not fat. He does look great though.
May 26, 2006 at 6:16 pm
I love Fat Bald Man! He’s not so fat, but I guess he is bald. Yes, please do a profile on him!
May 26, 2006 at 6:50 pm
I’m one of those who has been kicking and screaming about jackets that are too short on this blog for the last 2-3 months. I tried a short jacket on the other day, about the length of this guys, and you know what? It looked “fresh”. Count me in as a believer. But, as with this guy, I’m NOT going for the short inseam pants. I’ll say,”Give me a break”.To the tailor that is.
May 27, 2006 at 9:52 am
When you do a profile, inquiring minds want to know who is his tailor in Naples!
May 27, 2006 at 10:32 am
i agree, Fat Bald Man is alluring. it’s his style, and his facial expression. i would love to know more about him.
May 27, 2006 at 12:38 pm
FBM has the makings of a cult following.
Sartorialist, when you visit FBM’s digs in Italy, please photograph and interview his tailor, too. I can just picture his tailor now, bespectacled, traditional, with tons of proverbs about tailoring…
May 27, 2006 at 2:06 pm
I see a bald man but not a fat man. I would be sad if this is what was considered fat these days.
May 28, 2006 at 3:02 am
Sartorialist, When you revisit someone, it would be helpful if you linked to your earlier post of that person. It would prevent the surprised and indignant comments from newer blog readers, and it would be nice for us veteran readers to easily revisit old pictures. For us, these people start to feel like old friends.
I’m glad you refound this gentleman. I really am quite fond of him. I’m looking forward to an interview.
May 28, 2006 at 12:53 pm
Dear 3:48pm,Look a little closer above the Cuban cigar and you will see FBM has a wedding band on. I know I can’t be the only one here who wishes my mate dressed like FBM! (And that’s funny because my mate is a Fat Bald Man himself!)-A. Noni Mause
May 28, 2006 at 2:28 pm
I agree that “FBM” looks interesting and well put together. In both of your shots of him he had a great briefcase and a cigar, which also add to his look.
May 28, 2006 at 4:50 pm
His self confidence makes this all work. He knows he is bald, he knows he’s not the skinniest guy in town and he doesn’t care. He wears his clothes correct to his body and his “confidence” says, “I look better than you.”
May 28, 2006 at 5:07 pm
Now I understand why most of the pics on this site are of people who are model/waif thin. If you think this guy is fat (even if he called ‘himself’ that) then you’d probably think 70percent of the people on the street are fat. This guy is certainly “stocky” but “fat” is not what this guy is. And this is coming from a skinny guy.
May 28, 2006 at 5:37 pm
i wonder what kind of watch he is wearing
May 29, 2006 at 9:04 pm
Serge, old chap, the way I see it dimples are ghastly overrated across the pond. What is more, the pocket square – that should preferably match the shirt (as far as I know)-seems blue to me. All in all – splendid.Cheers.The Brit
September 2, 2007 at 11:11 pm
I have my own very sexy very FBM who has refused to wear a suit until this week, when he broke down and said he’d wear one to an upcoming event. He wants grey. Any comments?
June 19, 2010 at 10:55 am
The witnesses carry these briefcases. So just ask one of them
March 1, 2011 at 9:59 pm
Good heavens, this is only fat to bulimic emaciated runway types.
I know fat.
July 6, 2012 at 10:13 am
Re: the pocket square – that should preferably match the shirt… No! The pocket square shouldn’t match anything! Tho, I just can’t do the British thing of having it not go AT ALL – mine must have some coordinating colors to something else I’m wearing – generally my tie.
Re: your friend wants a gray suit. Gray is such a difficult color and often looks cheap if it’s too light. If it must be gray, I hope you went with charcoal. Otherwise, every man needs just one good navy blue suit in his closet. With the right accessories, that will get him through just about any situation.
