That is a very clever color combination. Its catchy. But the coat is what I am looking at. I have been looking for one just like that. Oversized, but you don’t drown in it. I love the 80′s rebel tuck of the collar. Now I want to do all that.
Hope indeed! Totally adorable and age-appropriate! Love the teal and bordeaux combination, and the ankle-tie metallic flats. Looks beautiful….and the setting is magical!
I just love to see tasteful and fashionable young girls, because I know there’s hope for this generation even with the influence of Jersey shores.

just heard Alexander Wang is going to take over at Balenciaga, the future looks exciting in fashion as the youth keep it refreshing and always changing
She is cute, but more importantly, your photos from Nashville makes the city look like a place with a lot of soul. Maybe it’s the season or the particular places, can’t put my finger on it.
Avery is such a wonderful girl! She´s got something special. There´s something mystically in her gaze, a special aura around her. I cannot explain better.
This girl (or should I say “young woman”?) could wear a trash bag and still would look wonderful. And she doesn´t need tons of make up, because she´s a natural beauty.
I like the picture very much, what Avery is wearing and also the whole athmosphere.
Good point. Avery’s look is divine, but I could not have dressed like that at 16 because even if I could get myself to the stores, my clothing budget only allowed thrift shops. Which was fine, in its way.
FOR THE RECORD: Nashville, in general, has a thriving thrifting and sewing community. She may not have paid much for that outfit, it could be its vintage/handmade. This is not a neighborhood of affluence.
In any case, I think she looks right smart and a proper little lady. *nods*
That look probably doesn’t cost that much. The shoes I recognize. they are from Urban Outfitters, and they are good leather and quality, but not expensive. I have the black pair. They were around 30 dollars. Tights are cheap. the coat looks vintage.
In any case you don’t need to be wealthy to have a few expensive classic pieces, and add to them. Most kids I see look like they spend a ton on their clothing ESPECIALLY in poor areas. The poorest area in my town has a lot of teenagers with Sean John Jeans which cost at least a couple of hundred… and they all have very expensive tennis shoes. So its not like poor kids don’t spend a bundle on their clothing. Much more then this modest outfit.
I’m so pleased that she’s fashionable AND age-appropriate. So many young girls these days equate being an adult with showing more skin. But she outclasses all of them, making her appear much more adult than her age.
Love the tights! It’s a playful but sophisticated outfit – perfect for any young woman – but her facial expression is what makes this such a striking picture.
i’ve never commented on here but i’m glad you posted a picture of a girl around my age who is dressed beautifully. however, i don’t think it’s fair to believe that majority of my generation dresses as “hooch’s”.
Omg. This is a beautiful picture. Whoever this is has perfect facial features, and her eyes speak so many words without her mouth having to move. She is gorgeous. I love this.
Excuse me… Nashville is not a small town, and despite the big-hair-and-rhinestones stereotypes surrounding it, it’s not at all surprising that Mr S found some very stylish people hereabouts. (Hell, the legendary Katy K makes even the big hair and rhinestones fabulous!)
Men will dash themselves on the rocks for this girl one day. Her gaze is haunting, like she knows what you’re thinking and is one step ahead. Hope for the future? Not in Nashville. This girl will end up in Paris or Tokyo. She won’t talk much; her gaze will say it all for her.
Totaly agree with Eileen, Avery could wear a trash bag and still look beautiful. She is sutch an adorable and beautiful young lady. She looks sweet and inocent but very elegant and sufisticated at the same time. The photographer had a very good eye when he picked her to be here, what a smart man. I can’t wait to see more of her, i have a feeling this is just the biguining of a big carear as model. She knows how to look to the camera and say so much with her eyes….yup, we will hear about Avery many times.
Love this picture! Great conbination of colors and looks great on her.
definite hope for the future! alittle tired of seeing teens dress so inappropriately tacky. this is a breath of fresh air and hopefully the fashion i want my little girl looking up too.
I’ve seen a lot of girls go from city-chic to runway-chic– and really, it is in the way that they hold themselves– and she’s got it (don’t get me wrong, I love her outfit as well; she does the fashionable Nashvillians justice). The coy smile, the straight-backed confidence /almost/ disguised by the modest squeezing of the hands. She knows just how to enchant/ charm the audience without seeming haughty.
Ballerinas and thick tights are good for teenagers, let’s hope she’ll find the perfect type of shoes when she grows up to finish this rich autumn colour exercise.
Her style is so simple yet evokes so much thought for the weather, colors and the scene is gorgeous as well. It really does give me hope to see young adults taking care of themselves especially when you see so many are giving up.
LOVE the indie-chic look. Between the clothes and the gaze, this lovely young lady could just as well be walking down the streets of Paris as she is the streets of Nashville.
