Wow I LOVE this look! The colours are wonderful with her skin and hair as well… and the bag! just enough extra to make it a non-boring look.

The shoes are incongruous with the coat and fur collar.

Love the coat.

I agree with the shoe comment, but I like the look of the 3/4 length coat with the longer sweater sleeves. Both classy and trendy.

Thank you wider legged pants! Thank you!
positively the same dame

pretty woman — beautiful skin and hair. ordinarily i would prefer to see the 3/4-length sleeves worn as they were designed to be worn, but in a look this casual it’s fine the way she’s layered the coat and the blouse and it’s a cute way to update a vintage piece.

Open-toed shoes with a fur-collar coat, buttoned up so it must be nippy out. What women will suffer to wear the right shoe… and I think Sar doth protest too much about the color Brown.

Oh this looks wonderful in its seeming simplicity. I can’t imagine it being pulled off so brilliantly by someone else.

Very sixties meets ’00s…pigeon-toe malaise hits NY!!!

Maybe she works in a warm office and the shoe goes better with what’s under her coat, but she had to wear the coat to get to work. Any advice for what to do in that situation, short of just bringing two pairs of shoes with you?

You have to bring two pairs of shoes. There’s no choice. Besides, do you really want to ruin your beautiful shoes (or watch the return on your investment go down) by walking them to work every day? That’s for your grunt shoes!

Thanks everyone! True about the shoes, if in my defense the vest underneath the coat matched the brown (still, good call). I have had more shoes reheeled living in NYC than I can count, methinks ‘grunt’ shoes might be necessary this winter. Could anything be more flattering than being on this site? I’ve been smiling since the picture request.
Love you Sartorialist!

Aren’t 3/4 sleeved coats meant to be worn with long gloves?
I too agree about the shoes.

So you buy good shoes only to wear @ work? I buy shoes to wear. To keep them locked up defeats the purpose. Buy shoes and wear them; they are made to wear!

Cute girl! I like very much the way she dresses too. I would have liked to tell her, but I am far from NYC
October 26, 2006 at 10:36 am
Personally I think she is the cutest and most stylish woman in NYC

As for open-toed shoes, I often go entirely barefoot in all kinds of bad weather and the feet stay much warmer than you’d think. Then again, I live in Southern California and I’m an unfashionable dork.

sweet and elegant…and something i could throw on no matter where i was going (never mind that her hair is gorgeous)
caroline, who cares re: the shoes – they’re great, and it’s your look.

I can’t say I like the proportions of the coat to the pant. And in the combination of the fabric and color of the coat makes it feel too heavy, maybe if she would have worn and nice pillowy dress underneath it, I think it may have been pulled off a little bit better.

Funny how the shoes are barely peeking out and we all noticed.
Sometimes that can work with a thick dark trouser sock peeking out of the toes.

Lovely, I like this smile. Is it really that cold over there. South Africa is hot and just looking at that makes me sweat.

Fabulous Look! She should bring her chic look to Cheyenne, Wyoming where all the fashion divas live these days.

Love. Love. Love. except for the shoes. The bag and coat are terrific though!!

I think she is the most fabulous thing I’ve seen on the Sartorialist yet. She embodies Manhattan to me. And Caroline for a name, perfect and classic.
