one of my fav shots :O
October 22, 2012 at 3:14 pm
Oh my gosh I almost never comment but I can’t express how much I adore this photo, it manages to capture so much emotion and I feel like I know the guy only by his expression and gesture. I think he’s very attractive but in an unconventional way, especially with his piercing gaze..So poetic
October 24, 2012 at 6:51 am
That is exactly what I was thinking! I know I’ve read way too many biographies on dead Frenchmen, but that gaze! Is he a Revolutionary or an Aristocrat? I don’t think it makes any difference. I wouldn’t want to make him mad!
October 30, 2012 at 6:25 pm
Revolutionary, I think. Reminds me of Camille Desmoulins.
October 22, 2012 at 3:15 pm

This is quintessential Parisian style.
October 22, 2012 at 3:22 pm
LOVE THE COAT!!!
The 3 F's
The man on the right conjures a memory of being in Paris in the 6th grade. I looked around at all of the beautiful people, and secretly wished that one of the adorable French boys would ask me to lunch. They all had this haircut, and seemed to know so much more than the American boys. More than a decade later and I still wonder…
October 22, 2012 at 3:30 pm
Cool picture and I love the coat!!
October 22, 2012 at 3:43 pm
Dorian Gray! perfect!

This is one of your best, Mr. Schuman. A classic.

Les jeunes romantiques du 21eme siecle.
October 22, 2012 at 5:34 pm
Just got back from Paris last week and I did not manage to capture anything like this. Indeed, spitting image of Dorian Gray.
October 22, 2012 at 5:54 pm
Something creepy / sexy about this guy and his look.
I am simultaneously attracted and repelled…
October 22, 2012 at 6:01 pm
Love the intensity of his face.

October 22, 2012 at 6:28 pm
tiens, c’est moi sur la photo… i just bough a perfume. god, i really look tired here. very strange to read all these comments about me. …
October 23, 2012 at 12:19 pm
I love it when the subjects of the photos comment! You look smashing Romain!
October 22, 2012 at 7:07 pm
For me the most interesting one is the Bashung-like profile on the right.
October 22, 2012 at 8:08 pm
Makes me think of the Paris of Balzac, Stendhal. Evoking a period feel without seeming to copy a ‘look’, it’s in the colour of the coat, the fur, the unusual collar. It’s such a pleasure seeing beautifully dressed men.
October 22, 2012 at 10:55 pm
Agreed! Also–Delacroix, who wore a fur collar coat in a self-portrait.
October 23, 2012 at 4:42 am
I love that portrait. Such a period for mens fashion. I am sure the word dashing came into use then!
October 23, 2012 at 9:55 am
I believe that men’s fashion period featured Beau Brummell …I meant to share a Delacroix link:
October 22, 2012 at 9:04 pm
Damn he is so sexy. Even wearing his mom’s coat.
October 22, 2012 at 9:53 pm
Creepy and sexy indeed, he’s a modern day vampire!
October 22, 2012 at 10:36 pm
i agree….there is something quite common in his expression

Tough dressed – man on the left – and a bag of Hermes. No Frenchman, more a man from the east. Clothing is OK. I know a good hairdresser for this young man.
October 23, 2012 at 6:53 am
Oh.. great <3
October 23, 2012 at 7:56 am
I love to see these quintessentially English looks on the streets of Paris!

Good picture, good capture.
Freezing kind of.
Looks like a vampire who stopped by at Hermes.
October 23, 2012 at 8:20 am
Somehow he reminds me of Steerpike, from Gormenghast. :)
Inherent Style LA
October 23, 2012 at 11:20 am
He is so intriguing … He’s like an aristocratic Goth from the 70′s… I dunno… The Hermes shopping bag adds to the intrigue…
October 23, 2012 at 12:25 pm
He indeed looks like Ben Barnes’ Version of Dorian Gray, even though it’s nothing like the book’s character… except for the outfit, maybe :)
October 23, 2012 at 1:12 pm
Tough shot. Excellent work.
October 24, 2012 at 9:58 am
modern Oscar Wilde
October 24, 2012 at 2:27 pm
Great catch. He looks like a vampire! That coat and his expression.

Wendy Carlos Williams
May 2, 2013 at 6:32 pm
There is something Jim Carroll about him.
May 29, 2013 at 4:52 am
Amazing photo easily one of Schuman’s best!
I love this man’s sense of style. A kind of I do things my way-don’t give a damn to the world look. He’s totally beautifully dressed but very tough at the same time. REGAL BOHEMIAN! What an artist.
The accent of the brooch pinned to the fur collar of the coat is provocative. This makes me proud to see that a man can have a brilliant sense of style and spin it on its head.
I love the interplay of elegance and edgy-ness, gentleman and rock star,
eloquence and powerful. This is the kind of style that lifts people off their feet.
I wish one day to own a coat just like it!
March 27, 2015 at 6:58 pm
A Parisian Jim Carroll, perhaps?
