I agree! -I didn’t notice the expressions originally, but after a good look they just made the picture! I like her clothes, the oriental print is amazing and her shoes make me smile :) http://untrucoudeux.wordpress.com/
I like the way the pink in the shoes brings out the pink in her blazer. But, I really hate seeing women in dress clothes and gym shoes – reminds me too much of the 1990s when I’d take the el to work everyday.
I definitely agree with Audrey on this one…women should be comfortable, but I think there are probably chic-er ways to go about it. But kudos to this woman for being so confident and careless…I’d wear trainers too if they got me those calves!
C’mpn!
She’s giving her feet a rest after a long day in heels.
Have you never seen this before? Have you never done that before?
Her eyes are up there. Look at them.
I don’t think think The Sartorialist’s page is about fashion. I always thought its about style! Style that works in someones opinion, and style that doesn’t work, anyway being interesting, working or not. I’ve been following this page for years, and this is only my conclusion.
I love the picture. It works very well all together, the jacket, her smile, her hair, her skirt and the trainers. Comfortable shoes is a sign of self confidence!
No, comfortable shoes (in this case athletic shoes), are a sign of being too lazy or unimaginative to find another kind of comfortable shoe that would go much better with an otherwise great outfit.
AAAWWWWW she’s so adorable. I love her look, the cool comfy shoes and luxurious fabrics with classic cut suit her personality so well. Matching the trainers to the silk (?) print jacket is her defining signature – so decadent, but so self assured.
At first I didn’t much like the sneakers with this look. But then I noticed that the 2 women in the background are wearing almost identical shoes. And the sneakers, which are so very different from everything around them, suddenly looked much better.
Oh! How I wish you’d gotten a closer shot of the woman with the gray/silver hair in the background. She’s the classy, chic well dressed one in this photo. The young woman in the foreground is just a teaser distraction.
I hope one day you run into Christine Lagarde on the streets of Paris.
i love the whole dress and sneakers sort of look….the print on the jacket is lovely..but is it just me who noticed how both her feet are tilted like she might fall over..usually we tilt just one feet..
She looks great, trainers, reminds me of the early nineties. London, always kickin it with a pair of black trousers. When stepping out in New York had to be fur long fur, mad x
I chuckled when I saw the runners as I scrolled down the photos, fully expecting killer sky-high heels. It’s refreshing to see someone in transit – and taking the comfortable route. (And replenishing the water.)
The jacket is fantastic, and I like the mixing of pattern with the leopard clutch.
I also dig the blonde woman’s outfit in the background. She puts me to shame with those shoes!
I for one don’t know if I can pull off the sneakers with that outfit. Maybe of course because I am linking sneakers with athletic wear! However she is pulling it off lovely! I love the quilted skirt which is too die for! Everything just flows! Stunning!
I love the sudden shift in the acceptance of wearing sneakers in public. There is nothing more chic and effortless than a well dressed woman wearing unexpectedly flat shoes!
I think I’ll be buying a separate pair to the ones I wear to the gym when I try this out though (an excuse to buy more).
You know, this works! And the sneakers are totally on purpose – why the hell would you want to walk around looking like everyone else at a fashion show in sky high heels anyway (assuming it is outside a show, judging by the presence of Ms Fargo in the background). Good jaarb girl!
Uh, she looks like she’s commuting to work with her sneakers on. This isn’t some new, fashionably-awesome, “on-purpose” fashion trend. Women have been wearing sneakers with their dress clothes on the subway since “Working Girl.”
Mixing colors, patterns, and style themes (running sneakers with a nice dress/shirt, I’m still trying to figure out how I feel about this look. But one thing’s for sure, there was a thought behind it. This is not accidental style, and I love when people are expressive in how they dress :). Kudos to her!
