It was brief, but fun. I can see a whole book coming out about this, with a certain Breat Easton Ellis style. It would be fun – rememeber what I said Scott.

    Fabulous Scott Schuman!!!

L.S. AYRES, my God, I am having serious flashbacks. I had friends and family that went to Indiana University…

I was so sad when I found out they closed down Penguins. They had great Blizzards. I got my ear double peirced at College Mall (It no longer is, Thank God!)….Kilroys, Blue Bird etc. Forgive my nostalgia…

You’ve come a Looong Way Baby…but not so far that you have lost the sweet demeanor of the Midwest.

Good God man, you look like a model in that picture! I’d always thought of you as being ordinary looking, just with an incredible eye for style-now you look like one of them. Be that as it may, I’m sure a lot of the males on this blog can relate to your obsession with clothes, when you’re the only one in your entire school who has any idea what L’Officiel is (and spend more money than your allowance allows, getting every copy of it). Strangely though, I’ve alweays loved both sports and fashion. But thanks for sharing, really cool article.

Great photo of you, Scott! Love the very intimate–and also somehow sweet–cozying up to/with the camera…

    Sart as “ordinary looking?”

I think it’s more Sart as looking for the extraordinary.

Besides, it’s been mentioned that he looks like Lance Armstrong and it’s not the first time we’re seeing his pic.

This is one hawt photog ;-)

I feel the Indiana pain as well. L S Ayres is still the ‘high end’ store in Lafayette, IN but offers nothing whatsoever worthwhile. Trips to Barneys in Chi are frequent.

Great pic and good excerpt. But now, I want to read the whole thing. Can you post or at least provide a link? Did you provide pics for the article? I agree with Stavros — I see a book coming out . . .

Great portrait Scott, but what are you wearing?

The article doesn’t seem to be up online, but those with access to the InfoTrac database should be able to search for the full text.

can you show us the full article!?

also, i agree that you should think of working on a book. maybe in a year or two?

also, i think you should make sure to always keep it real–we like you because your personality shines through and you photograph old harlem gents as well as fifth avenue young women.

all i mean is be wary of excessive corporate connections; i think the attraction of your blog is its grassroots feel. we don’t feel like you’re trying to sell us clothes.

i think that’s why people are so much more comfortable providing feedback here as opposed to on style.com

    good luck, keep it up!

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but the former copy editor in me can’t help but mention that it should be “pore” and not “pour.” Just in case Sandra or her editor reads this. Funny anecdote, though. I adore how it begins to create the lovely, linear life story of the successful fashion photographer.

Hoosiers unite! I’m currently the teenager in Indianapolis pouring over as much high end goods as I can get. L.S. Ayres is gone now, but I have the internet and a strong belief in the indie designer.

You’re such an inspiration to us in small fashion markets.

I’m a huge fan of yours! I didn’t know you were from Indiana! I grew up in Carmel and, like the others, the LS Ayers description brought back memories. It’s actually gotten a lot better in Carmel/Indy for fashion, though I don’t go back very often anymore.
