LIKE: Beatiful style on the coat. Great chic look with the ( cap or head band). Wonderful personality with the smile. She’s seems like the kind you can lounge with at an outdoor cafe all day long.
DISLIKE: Not too crazy about the driving gloves? Shoes seem too bright for fall. Maybe a dark brown skirt(with matching cap or headband and tote bag of the same color), same black coat and black shoes instead?

i don’t particularly adore the shoes. but she looks pretty wonderful all around-ATWR

Kinda reminds me of Mary Tyler Moore. It’s not the most creative outfit, but it works.

Love the gloves.
December 6, 2006 at 7:07 pm
It’s Hot, I love it

She looks so adorable. I actually like the driving gloves. They are an unexpected detail. And my new love is dark tights with lighter toned shoe. She has a playful way about her. The nicely tailored and classic coat pull it all together.

I like the bright pop of the shoes. But she could lose the cigarette-as-accessory.
Another Shade of Grey

Personally, I’m dying to see what these folks have on UNDER their coats. I know it’s cold in NYC, but is it possible to get a shot with and without the coat? Just curious. Thanks

she looks adorableLove those shoes – granny chic!!

I love this picture. The blue really makes it. Adds that extra something to look at.

I love your blog and really like most styles that you photograph, but I’m not too crazy about this look. I think She looks a bit like a nun in that outfit.
December 7, 2006 at 12:05 am
I looove how the shoes are so contrasted and stand out from her tights. But the bag seems a bit…tent-like.
December 7, 2006 at 12:25 am
i like her gloves! they add an element of unexpectedness..in her otherwise cute but normal outfit.
December 7, 2006 at 12:45 am
What’s wrong with a “normal” or “uncreative” outfit? Plenty of people look fabulous in basics and traditional items. I don’t quite understand the focus on wacky, outrageous outfits.
December 7, 2006 at 3:16 am
love the shoes – LOVE the color contrast! black shoes would be boring.
December 7, 2006 at 5:01 am
Is it appropriate to say she looks like a hot nun?
December 7, 2006 at 7:26 am
she looks very new york to me. young, imaginitively dressed on a budget, enjoying life in the city.
the “lose the cigarette” remark gave me a laugh — are we so politically correct that even holding a cigarette while a stranger takes your picture is somehow offensive? what, is your computer worried about second-hand smoke? are you her mommy? this young woman obviously stepped outside of the store for the very purpose of having a smoke, when along came sart.

I really like this. She looks playful and the outfit doesn’t look too contrived. I get a sense of personality in this, even though it is mostly basics. It’s the little touches like the gloves and shoes.
December 7, 2006 at 9:10 am
My favorite part of this is the shoes. Caramel pumps make the rest of it just perfect.
December 7, 2006 at 10:04 am
i thought she’s a nun. one chic nun. ok, hot is the better word.
December 7, 2006 at 10:05 am
This lady has bucket loads of style, she’s doing the whole old-world style incredibly well. The shoes are lovely and don’t get me going on those driving gloves, what a gem!
December 7, 2006 at 10:33 am
Driving gloves are hot. Smoking a cigarette with driving gloves on: I liiiiike.
December 7, 2006 at 10:58 am
She reminds me of Suzanne Vega way back then…

Shuman does shots in the street.
In the cold.
In the winter.
No, you’re not going to get people to freeze their buts off just so he can get a shot for his blog. By him a round ticket to Australia or Brazil if you want shots of people without coats or scarves, running around in halter tops and shorts.
And didn’t we just have six months worth of halter tops and shorts shots already? Aren’t admitting seasonal weather part of getting back to nature? And isn’t variety good?
Shuman’s blog is one of the few where there’s actually a difference between December photos and July. Most all others are same-same, day after day, the same dull indoor shots that look like they’re taken inside a mall.

The chocolate leather of those gloves against the deep blue of that coat looks great.
December 7, 2006 at 12:53 pm
Great photo, one I’m sure she’d be very pleased with.
December 7, 2006 at 3:11 pm
I like her shoes..it’s a nice break from so much black altho if the brown were a touch darker it’d be a homerun. “Hot nun” is a good way to describe her look. very odd pose tho, at first I thought she was sitting on something but she isnt.
December 7, 2006 at 3:56 pm
I wonder whether her coat is the blue version of the camel one visible hanging inside the store. I really like the blue/brown in the composition of this photo. I like to wear blue with brown, for that matter. Her expression is darling. Like the driving gloves. Like the unexpected light shoes/dark tights combo And have always loved that shade of blue the APC store is painted.
December 7, 2006 at 4:41 pm
Well, at least she’s not sitting outside the Prada store. Fighter pilots have a term for such places: target-rich environments.
December 7, 2006 at 7:51 pm
i love her look and think being chic doesn’t necessarily mean being as excessively creative as possible. this is creative in its own subdued, subtle way. i love the gloves too!
December 7, 2006 at 9:00 pm
i like how unposed she is. very natural, and a nice change from the posturing of most of the other chic ladies you find around NYC.
December 7, 2006 at 9:59 pm
usually L.O.V.E. your choices but I seriously thought she was some kind of pretty modern-day nun as well. not crazy bout her shoes either.
December 8, 2006 at 12:31 am
if i could look this young and playful without looking twee or cutesy, i’d be there. i love this!
December 8, 2006 at 3:07 am
feels very east coast. but overall uuber cute.
December 8, 2006 at 11:06 am
I love the shoes and the tights. I think its very modern city chic.
December 10, 2006 at 9:30 pm
This girl was my roommate about 7 years ago in NYC!

The gloves are Club Monaco, also come in black.
