LIKE: Beatiful style on the coat. Great chic look with the ( cap or head band). Wonderful personality with the smile. She’s seems like the kind you can lounge with at an outdoor cafe all day long.
DISLIKE: Not too crazy about the driving gloves? Shoes seem too bright for fall. Maybe a dark brown skirt(with matching cap or headband and tote bag of the same color), same black coat and black shoes instead?
She looks so adorable. I actually like the driving gloves. They are an unexpected detail. And my new love is dark tights with lighter toned shoe. She has a playful way about her. The nicely tailored and classic coat pull it all together.
Personally, I’m dying to see what these folks have on UNDER their coats. I know it’s cold in NYC, but is it possible to get a shot with and without the coat? Just curious. Thanks
I love your blog and really like most styles that you photograph, but I’m not too crazy about this look. I think She looks a bit like a nun in that outfit.
What’s wrong with a “normal” or “uncreative” outfit? Plenty of people look fabulous in basics and traditional items. I don’t quite understand the focus on wacky, outrageous outfits.
she looks very new york to me. young, imaginitively dressed on a budget, enjoying life in the city.
the “lose the cigarette” remark gave me a laugh — are we so politically correct that even holding a cigarette while a stranger takes your picture is somehow offensive? what, is your computer worried about second-hand smoke? are you her mommy? this young woman obviously stepped outside of the store for the very purpose of having a smoke, when along came sart.
I really like this. She looks playful and the outfit doesn’t look too contrived. I get a sense of personality in this, even though it is mostly basics. It’s the little touches like the gloves and shoes.
This lady has bucket loads of style, she’s doing the whole old-world style incredibly well. The shoes are lovely and don’t get me going on those driving gloves, what a gem!
No, you’re not going to get people to freeze their buts off just so he can get a shot for his blog. By him a round ticket to Australia or Brazil if you want shots of people without coats or scarves, running around in halter tops and shorts.
And didn’t we just have six months worth of halter tops and shorts shots already? Aren’t admitting seasonal weather part of getting back to nature? And isn’t variety good?
Shuman’s blog is one of the few where there’s actually a difference between December photos and July. Most all others are same-same, day after day, the same dull indoor shots that look like they’re taken inside a mall.
I like her shoes..it’s a nice break from so much black altho if the brown were a touch darker it’d be a homerun. “Hot nun” is a good way to describe her look. very odd pose tho, at first I thought she was sitting on something but she isnt.
I wonder whether her coat is the blue version of the camel one visible hanging inside the store. I really like the blue/brown in the composition of this photo. I like to wear blue with brown, for that matter. Her expression is darling. Like the driving gloves. Like the unexpected light shoes/dark tights combo And have always loved that shade of blue the APC store is painted.
i love her look and think being chic doesn’t necessarily mean being as excessively creative as possible. this is creative in its own subdued, subtle way. i love the gloves too!

I like the bright pop of the shoes. But she could lose the cigarette-as-accessory.

I looove how the shoes are so contrasted and stand out from her tights. But the bag seems a bit…tent-like.

Shuman does shots in the street.
Outside.
In the cold.
In the winter.
Below freezing.
