I also snapped Bill at NYFW. He is, of course, fantastic and as much an icon as the people he’s photographed.

What a charming picture of him. I would love to see you guys work together, do a series of street style shots together, imagine a co-authored book!
Lovely of you to photograph him.
September 17, 2012 at 8:51 pm
Hope I look that good at 83 !
September 17, 2012 at 8:53 pm
I love the fact that he wears that classic utilitarian jacket over and over again, while he searches for an individual’s self-expression through clothes on the street. It says a lot about him. Long live Bill Cunningham!
I love Bill Cunningham! Just watched a documentary on him about a week ago. He is so heart-breakingly kind.
September 17, 2012 at 8:55 pm
What i really like in this photo is the smile that it is so characteristic from him. he looks like an happy child doing him passion like it is was the first time over and over again. i feel the same when doing my work. you did capt it so well in the right moment.

September 17, 2012 at 10:15 pm
This smile made my day. This simple picture is such an amazing example of how to age gracefully by doing what you love…
September 18, 2012 at 3:05 am
Yes, yes, yes! Unpretentious, always following his passion, beautiful (outside and in). This is what LOVE looks like! Thank you Scott, for so perfectly capturing the worlds’ precious Bill, and his childlike joy while in the midst of it all! This is what sheer JOY looks like at any age. Absolute un-self consious bliss!
Ralph Lauren is famous for buying a waiters perfect jacket off the waiters back while dining, say, in Italy, to tear apart and reinvent for his line. I wonder if he hasn’t begged Bill to copy his ‘Blue Bill” jacket….and named it just that!
We shall see.
Scott, you must be as thrilled as we are with this delightful shot.
September 18, 2012 at 8:33 am
You said it so perfectly:
“Thank you Scott, for so perfectly capturing the worlds’ precious Bill, and his childlike joy while in the midst of it all! This is what sheer JOY looks like at any age. Absolute un-self consious bliss!”
You spoke my heart.

I love this man!
I watched the beautiful 2011 doc (directed by Richard Press) about B.C. on Hulu recently – highly recommended!!!
September 18, 2012 at 12:12 am
just saw documentary about him last night, so I can answer the Q that yes, he still uses film (or did when documentary was made). What an interesting man — lives like a monk, to feed what Mr. Schuman has termed ‘visual greed’. And it seems to feed him right back.
September 18, 2012 at 12:29 am
I heart Bill Cunningham! The original Sartorialist! Such a wonderful attitude and personality. I loved the documentary about him. He’s always lived his life on his terms and is still going strong, good for him!
September 18, 2012 at 12:35 am

Perfect shot of him! So sweet and heartwarming. I think we all fell in love with him a little more with that documentary, and now every image of him is just that much sweeter.
Brilliant! That’s a nice snapshot.

September 18, 2012 at 3:39 am

The ever young at heart Mr Cunningham. I watched the documentary about his work/passion many times. Bravo !
September 18, 2012 at 7:50 am
I’m truly curious as to what is the lens he is using. He’s a true testament that you don’t need those biggie lens to produce good images.
September 18, 2012 at 7:56 am
Bill is such a genuine person. Truly a legend !

I saw Bill on Sunday night shooting the windows at Bergdorfs. Can’t wait to see the photos!
September 18, 2012 at 1:25 pm
There is alot to be said for the uniform style that Mr. Cunningham chooses. I recall how perry ellis used to wear only a white button down and khakis….his closet full of them. he always looked good. same for Mr. C: pared down simplicity, zen style. somewhat of a poke in the eye to the fashion obsessed.
September 18, 2012 at 2:07 pm
He is just fabulous beyond words!!!
September 18, 2012 at 4:38 pm
Love that this photo tells the story of Bill’s true joy for his profession. Excellent capture!

Brilliant shot of The Icon…
September 18, 2012 at 5:30 pm
One of my prized possessions is a 1985 NY Times “STYLE” page that Mr. Cunningham photographed. It has a photo of a Kansai Yamamoto outfit that I had designed the graphics for when I was working and living in Tokyo.
I seem to have aged, yet BC seems the same!!

September 18, 2012 at 11:08 pm
I always love bumping into Bill in the city. He is always so friendly.
September 19, 2012 at 4:56 am
it’s the second time I see him with a “cheap” nikon dslr…haha really shows its not about the cameras! I do believe is using digital for his “on the street now”. Anyways funny to see he using an older lens that he probably needs to focus manually…you need to be quick…kids, watch and learn!
September 19, 2012 at 5:00 am
Great picture of the devoted photographer :-) His dedication to capture fashion and tendencies are truly amazing.
September 19, 2012 at 5:06 am
I know this is a strange question, however, does anyone know what sort of camera and lens old Bill is working with? thanks.

can we love bill c. any more than we already do…oh yes we can! great shot of a legend – he’s simply a joy to look at.
September 19, 2012 at 3:07 pm
September 19, 2012 at 4:47 pm
In the above picture he’s using a Nikon with a guide mode (the green setting on the wheel), so a D3100 or D3200, both good, cheap entry-level DSLR’s.
The lens is a little thing, tempted to say the 35mm, but they scale up on those bodies, so maybe something smaller with only manual focus.
September 19, 2012 at 11:58 pm
It is an earlier generation AF lens.
Could be a 35 or a 28 (or maybe using a 24 with the sensor crop
