Looks like a young poet..

Now that is a nice pea coat! I have been looking for one for ages, but all the ones I have seen are boxy and frumpy.
Peacoats….how they come and go, mixing memory with…well, not quite desire.
His is a fine example of the breed, though I’m not convinced it works totally with the rest of the outfit.
(Do like his hair, too.)
December 13, 2006 at 10:09 am
Oh how dashing! Very tailored, very rugged up for the cool weather, very nice!!
December 13, 2006 at 10:14 am
This is a wonderful look! I think this guy looks awesome and what a coat indeded!
December 13, 2006 at 10:18 am
really like the subtle mix of colors – much more appealing and interesting than all black. i like the collar a bit up as well.
and the look on his face makes him seem like he’s a mischeivous sort. makes me want to get to know him!
THIS is how you do monochromatic… layered and in many different subtle shades!!
Everything is working here. I love the slicked back hair.
This is the style I try to achieve… a balance between style and classicism. This man can look back at this picture 50 years from now and it will still be stylish.
A true classic!!!

Is it possible to go to your tailor and ask to have a peacoat (or any wool overcoat) taken in? Didn’t know this.
December 13, 2006 at 10:49 am
Looks a little tight, a little fussy…
December 13, 2006 at 10:59 am
Incredible look. I love all black. The coat rock. Uber dashing.
December 13, 2006 at 11:11 am
the hair, coat and scarf work together very well…The large volumes of the scarf and coat balance the tidiness of the hair. He has a very defined style, that is pretty respectable…to much perhaps.
December 13, 2006 at 11:23 am
Very dapper!!! Love his hair too!
December 13, 2006 at 11:26 am
Love all the blues! The shoes, however, need a proper shining.
BTW, I love to see boys fussing with their hair but not going TOO overboard.

I have to ask you, how do you approach those you photograph? And what are their reactions?

I love the exaggerated lapels.
December 13, 2006 at 12:32 pm

A Certain Someone
December 13, 2006 at 12:37 pm
Is there anything more perfectly masculine as a well-tailored pea coat? He looks fantastic. Timeless, sophisticated, modern and warm. Love it.
December 13, 2006 at 12:40 pm
like the hair.
December 13, 2006 at 12:43 pm
Hot damn I love a well dressed guy!
December 13, 2006 at 12:47 pm
That is so lush-looking . . . I just want to touch all the fabrics. His hair is so old-school, too, which is . . . refreshing?
December 13, 2006 at 1:32 pm
This is what new yorkers wear when they actually mean “I <3 NY”
December 13, 2006 at 2:03 pm
Great composition & balance – that’s to the object in focus & you Scott!!
Being 5’7″, I can never find a Pea Coat that fits me!

December 13, 2006 at 2:37 pm
Perfection. Being able to dress like this on a typical day is why we live in New York City!
December 13, 2006 at 4:04 pm
I really like the exaggerated collar.
December 13, 2006 at 4:42 pm
I’m pretty sure that’s a Gucci pea coat from the Autumn/Winter 2005 collection.
December 13, 2006 at 4:44 pm
A little monochromatic, but great proportions.
December 13, 2006 at 6:04 pm

His composeur rhymes perfectly with what he his wearing. Beautifully done.
December 13, 2006 at 8:41 pm
He looks fantastic!
And I love the hair. It makes him look very F. Scott Fitzgerald.
December 13, 2006 at 10:55 pm
I love coats. I love menswear too so it’s perfect. Even if I am a girl, I want this. Not a bad looking bloke either.
December 13, 2006 at 10:59 pm
You’re such a great photographer. im always amazed by the incredible empathy between you and the people you photograph. They look so relax.. no forgetting that some “stranger” is asking them for a pic in the middle of the street.. And you choose the best of the locations to place them. Again, as always, chapeau.
December 13, 2006 at 11:26 pm
I agree totally with Jeff. You hit the nail on the head.
To Butch, why wouldn’t you think that this works well with the outfit?
December 14, 2006 at 12:53 am
I absoultely love that pea coat. It is amazing. He looks so stylish.
December 14, 2006 at 5:01 am

I laugh and tell her if the sartorialist doesnt sartorialize u with his click, it means the style is just not happening. i cant wait for factory girl to come out, and then to see all your shots of mini clad, edie sedwick lookalikes all over NY! woopee
December 14, 2006 at 7:47 am
I love peacoats. Especially tailored ones. And so practical in cold weather.
December 14, 2006 at 8:55 am
Well, d-kay, when I first scanned the photo, I saw an essentially conservative “underneath” topped by a rather casual and rather eccentric–the Ming-the-Merciless collar upturn–top, and that gave me pause.
But upon reflection, I see that the tonal similarity, outside to within, carries the day–that the look IS “whole.” So I now bow to your sense of it….

He’s handsome. :)
December 14, 2006 at 1:15 pm
Honestly, i’ve been CAPTIVATED by this photograph! I keep going back to it over and over and over again! I’m a relatively short guy (5ft8)– most of the peacoats I find are much too long for me. Any advice on where to get short, slim peacoats? Much thanks!
December 14, 2006 at 3:18 pm
That is simply perfection.
December 15, 2006 at 2:26 am
I’m pretty sure that’s a Gucci pea coat from the Autumn/Winter 2005 collection.
Yeah, looks like a Gucci from A/W 2005

December 17, 2006 at 5:25 pm
Oh, I like that jacket!
December 20, 2006 at 3:26 am
not worth having a pea coat unless it looks like this. it’s about time someone flaunted the exaggerated collar. he looks good and he knows it.
February 21, 2007 at 6:47 pm
RL Purple Label (he’s an employee)
March 20, 2007 at 12:35 am
He looks so much like two gentlemen that I know that I did a quadruple-take. Nice to know there’s third one out there.
