Saw those exact same *tall* socks in American Apparel… and put them back, left them there…. definitely regretting that now! Til next stop in their shop. Darn.
August 21, 2012 at 8:58 am
I hope what you’re saying is that they look cool now that you see them used well. Not that “now that thesartorialist says it’s cool it must be cool”.
August 20, 2012 at 8:10 pm
I love this!
August 21, 2012 at 4:14 am
I agree, this is such a great look, I also love her dress!
August 20, 2012 at 8:16 pm
Tall socks are the one trend I wish would go away. I really hate seeing men walk down the street in gym shorts and tall socks. Any variation of the look just appears strange.
August 20, 2012 at 8:17 pm
Cute dress…….. socks wrong, shoes really wrong.
August 20, 2012 at 11:59 pm
Yep! Lovely little dress. That’s about it.
Today saw a man in khaki shorts with dress black “tall socks.” Humph! Not very sexy on him either.
August 21, 2012 at 12:31 am
i can only imagine how amazing the progress, innovation and creativity in fashion & style would be if every person conformed to ‘rules’ about what is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. please, take me to that world.
August 21, 2012 at 8:27 am
Some shoes and socks are simply not flattering! I think this is funny (which in itself is great), but to me this represents neither progress nor innovation.
August 21, 2012 at 11:13 am
Noel, I assume you were referring to my comment…..
I used the word ‘wrong’ in an elastic sense.
Of course what may be ‘wrong’ for me may be very ‘right’ for someone else…. its all about how one feels in the garment. However that does not omit others from commenting on how they feel about it visually. The world you sarcastically described is not a place I would think the majority of people who visit this site would want to live…including me. There are no rules in mass…….only for the individual. don’t forget Noel, fashion is a language and how we choose and wear our attire speaks to the world somewhat of who we think we are and our place here……… some languages I just don’t understand or appreciate.

I think his shoestring Ben Sherman..I love them!
August 20, 2012 at 8:43 pm
Looks great on her! I think I’m too short for this trend though… hehe
August 20, 2012 at 8:56 pm
For fall and winder I love them, but can we talk about that visor, because I want it!
August 20, 2012 at 9:08 pm
August 20, 2012 at 9:15 pm
I love the dress!! not so sure about the shoes and socks! great overall
August 20, 2012 at 9:18 pm
This is cool… like really old school cool!
August 20, 2012 at 9:28 pm
The dress is cute. The socks? No thanks.
August 20, 2012 at 9:38 pm
Wow what a fresh look! Loving the Union Jack desert boots hanging out with the sporty red, white & blue socks. Perfect companions!
August 20, 2012 at 9:44 pm
It’s so different. A pretty floral dress plus tall socks equals a clashing yet refreshingly different outfit. I like it!
August 24, 2012 at 1:23 pm
I agree 100% and you took my words!
August 20, 2012 at 9:50 pm
Dirty shoes yuck!
Beige shoes, white socks combo..double yuck!!
Cigarette triple yuck!

Love! Can’t wait until its cooler and sock weather!
August 20, 2012 at 10:36 pm
She looks really cool and very nice dress!
Those shoes, ugh. Almost like those pictures where one person draws one half, and the other draws another part unseen, and in this case it definitely doesn’t come together.
August 20, 2012 at 10:53 pm
Adorei o vestido… mas com essas meias… desconcordou.

Nancy Sinatra, baby.
August 20, 2012 at 11:17 pm
This shouldn’t work, but it does. I think the tube socks are a little thinner and finer that they typically are. That gives them a more refined look, and I think that’s why they don’t look bad. Wonder what she’s doing that she can dress like this.
August 21, 2012 at 12:05 am
Вульгарно и неопрятно, не привлекло=(…
August 21, 2012 at 12:23 am
The boots, the socks with that dress??? I don’t get it.
August 21, 2012 at 12:44 am
so nice! I like that style! Great shoot
August 21, 2012 at 12:50 am
I don’t know what’s better, those Clark’s or those socks. I love it.
August 21, 2012 at 1:01 am
This inspires me to break out the cool tube socks. Bob
August 21, 2012 at 1:02 am
Palladium boots! Great to see practical footwear, but the socks, not so much.
August 21, 2012 at 1:11 am
She knows she’s hot.
Otherwise I would have to tell her.
There are no wrongs or rights today.
Be spontaneous and try it–once.
August 21, 2012 at 1:18 am
Very sexy picture.
August 21, 2012 at 1:51 am
Men’s shoes with a print of the flag is gorgeous.
And the dress looks very nice with these socks.
August 21, 2012 at 1:53 am
August 21, 2012 at 2:16 am
heck yeah 90s baby!! I like the washed jeans in the previous post too. funky styles are the best no need for tall socks to go away as one poster suggested (imo).
August 21, 2012 at 2:27 am
Some sartorial and pulmanory issues combined again. Oh, well. I go for the sartorial element. That white part in the smoking device matches with the white pattern on the dress. And the white socks.
August 21, 2012 at 2:31 am
I know that this post should be about her socks. but I love the guy’s shoes. They’re amazing!
August 21, 2012 at 2:34 am
This is wonderful! Love it.
August 21, 2012 at 2:48 am
Cute dress but the socks and shoes are strange :D
August 21, 2012 at 2:59 am
Young and long legged (a must with these socks) this is a great look.
Strong gal flirting with boys timeless!
Boy’s union jack shoes – ooh, I want them.
August 21, 2012 at 3:08 am
Fantastic use of socks. Often they distract from summer outfits. Occasionally they have no effect. Rarely do they pull the whole outfit together. Not only do this pair accomplish that, they really make the shoes pop.
THE STEL STYLE

i like her dress!!! interestig outfit!!
August 21, 2012 at 3:47 am

August 21, 2012 at 4:46 am
Huh, normally I would never like wearing socks like that but it looks surprisingly cool. Kudos to her ;)
August 21, 2012 at 4:50 am
Haha she’s so cool!

August 21, 2012 at 6:15 am
Looks cool on her but seriously love the desert boots of the second person on the photo:D
August 21, 2012 at 6:25 am
For the socks, I love knee high socks from Pope’s tailor :
August 21, 2012 at 6:31 am
What a fun look..I mean this in a good way^^

El look no es convincente, as we say in castilian spanish: “un poco mamarracha”.
August 21, 2012 at 6:54 am
Ok perhaps this is about her socks, but all I care about are his sick Union Jack kicks!
August 21, 2012 at 6:57 am
cousin to a tube sock…..it might be Paris….but not Parisian
August 21, 2012 at 7:03 am
Love the dress and shoes. Not sure what to say about the socks. But I think it’s great that she has the confidence to pull off the look!
August 21, 2012 at 7:41 am
I love the shape of the boots. I’m sure they are made by a Parisian shoe company that you used to be able to buy in the UK years ago. I had a similar pair but a shoe rather than a boot. If anyone knows the name of the Company please tell?
August 22, 2012 at 4:15 pm
They look like Palladium boots, not sure if they are French though
August 21, 2012 at 7:55 am
Everything about this looks super ’80s – the hair, the socks, the cigarette…

August 21, 2012 at 8:21 am
this one is probably a trend that I will leave alone. I get that people are wearing these tube socks ironically….if tube socks can even BE ironic…..but I think that I would run the risk of looking like the lady in the cat sweatshirt who forgets to take the rollers out of her hair before she gets on the bus. Plus, I have existing photos of me wearing these things pulled-up to my knees with my bowl-shaped Dorothy Hamill haircut in the late 70s…sanding in front of a VW camper van. no less. Now THATS the real deal, people.
August 21, 2012 at 11:44 am
LOL! *Loved* your comment, HF.
Your comment proves the saying, “if you wore it the first time it came around … you’re too old for it the next time.”
(But like all fashion rules, this one can be broken too, depending….) :D
August 21, 2012 at 2:02 pm
I agree with both of you! Now all we need are the roller skates! As was previously mentioned, this is not a trend that many people should attempt.
August 21, 2012 at 8:31 am
Such a cute outfit! Love those UK sneakers as well!
August 21, 2012 at 8:36 am
I liked the dress (print and color) until I strolled down and…….I was surprised (not in a good way) by the socks and shoes !
I guess, anything goes.
August 21, 2012 at 9:08 am
It was the Union Jack desert boots I noticed first!
A man searching for style in middle age.
So cute and playful!
August 21, 2012 at 9:11 am
I also love knee high socks from Pope’s tailor :
August 21, 2012 at 9:20 am
It likes the top half of her has good fashion sense, and the bottom half doesn’t. The dress is very pretty and feminine, but not only do the shoes and socks not look right with this outfit, they wouldn’t look right with any outfit.

August 21, 2012 at 9:42 am
YES this is what I’m talking about! Palladium (kind of) shoes! They aren’t elegant, but I think they can really work, also with pants.
August 21, 2012 at 10:26 am
I had, actually samowhere I still have this shoes, they are very, very old….it seems to me that they are from beggining of ’90is….well………its very romantic to me to see them but old is old…but this look is nice and very alive!
August 21, 2012 at 10:02 pm
they are the grunge sneakers from opening ceremony, available here:
August 21, 2012 at 10:40 am
Nice socks…l Iove that photo! x
August 21, 2012 at 11:21 am
yikes…do not know about that one….I will pass …
August 21, 2012 at 11:38 am
Would never have thought to pair those socks myself but I actually like it!
Such a cute dress too.

August 21, 2012 at 11:42 am
I appreciation the intention of mixing it up – something I love to do myself – but I’m not digging the socks at all.
All you need to do is put on a pair in a bold colour, and slouch ‘em down.
The boots provide that “unexpected twist” element.
August 21, 2012 at 11:48 am
About ten minutes for this fad.
August 21, 2012 at 12:20 pm
LOVE it definitely want to try something like that this fall!
August 21, 2012 at 1:30 pm
Interesting powerful athletic look of the type artist Robert Crumb would marvel over. I can totally see her in one of his comix. :)
August 21, 2012 at 2:14 pm
At the same time, challenging attitude and funny!
Remember my vintage photo ; ) Thank you so much!

August 21, 2012 at 3:20 pm
This is an outfit that could only be pulled off successfully by a thin woman of exactly this age, in an urban environment. With so many conditions, I don’t find it great fashion. Not a fan.
August 21, 2012 at 3:22 pm
Well, I can safely say I won’t be trying that.
une chatte grise
August 21, 2012 at 3:43 pm
I like it! The socks & shoes neutralize any saccharine in what could be a cutesy-pie dress, leaving her looking cool & strong.
August 21, 2012 at 3:53 pm
Not a good look. I like the juxtaposition of a delicate dress and chunky boots but the socks look awful and even worse being athletic socks with red and blue stripes. Yuck.
August 21, 2012 at 5:51 pm
A little bit weird!

I like the guy’s shoes and the woman’s socks and that is about it. I would actually wear them together- with super short dark dark denims, a form fitting white or even red t-shirt, and tight high ponytail. Might be appropriate for taking the dog for a walk. Unfortunately in a couple of years I will be too old for this look in my own opinion. By then, I hope I find neverland!
August 23, 2012 at 12:20 pm
Love her hair and his shoes.
August 23, 2012 at 2:30 pm
Love the way she put the outfit together.
It’s pretty darn cute.
August 23, 2012 at 10:25 pm
Not everyone will look good with tall socks, but hey, this girl nailed it.
August 25, 2012 at 7:28 pm
There is creativity and tastelessness
August 26, 2012 at 6:57 am
What ARE they talking about?
I enjoy this photo because of the body language (look at the hands, the cigs, the nervous nature), the colours, the patterns. The outfits? In a different pose, I think not. In THIS pose oh yes, yes, YES!
August 29, 2012 at 3:25 pm
No, no, no! Tube socks are for a 1970′s gym class. There is not one thing fashionable about wearing them, unless you consider just wearing ugly, unflattering clothes fashionable, which I’m afraid is the norm these days.
August 29, 2012 at 3:42 pm
I remember these shoes were the cool shoes to have in the early 90s! I wish I could remember what they were called.
August 29, 2012 at 9:35 pm
I adore this get up. This is one of the first outfits I’ve seen on here that I see myself emulating. Plus, the guy’s shoes are fabulous. I’m dying to know where he got them.
I sort of want a bob now too.
September 3, 2012 at 11:06 pm
Her socks and his shoes? love it so so much.
