This is such a beautiful photo, a beautiful moment captured. Because it’s in black and white, the feeling of the photo is so nostalgic. This is something that that little girl will go back to when she’s older and everything from her childhood will come rushing back to her.
Beautiful contrast on these black and white photos, you are so incredible at shooting natural light. I look the texture of that wet braid! You have captured so lovely moments.
Beautiful! I’ve been thinking a lot about my dad. I just talked to him the other day about a dream he had. and I just wrote about him in the “What was I thinking?” contest, and also one of the vintage photos you showed (and the story that went with it) was so deeply touching that THESE set of photos would have had me in tears except I was just all smiles…how do you do it? Capture the sweetness, the energy, the mutual wisdom of father and daughter? At a time when we are so afraid to capture any sort of “relationship” on camera, it is so wonderful to see these images. Thanks again and again and again.
The perspective of these photos is fascinating, like you were walking on water. Scott, your powers are bordering on the supernatural…amazing what love can inspire.
I am always quietly checking your wonderful photos, but this time I have to comment to agree with you. I personally find photographing children the most challenging type of portrait photography. When one is able to master it, one also masters shooting portraits.
I would give anything to still have a chance to have a photography like this with my dad! How lucky are you to be the one to capture this amazing moment. CONGRATS!
How this suite of photos changes the overall impression of that man and what he’s wearing, how he wears it. And serves as a reminder that the the blog is about people, often in tension with what they wear, and even more with fashion at large. The finest work here is that which makes the subject stand out from the dress, the dress not so much expressing the person as allowing the person to stand out as someone inside, besides and above his or her clothes, and the reader to see this. The upper hand of the child, man and woman over designer, brand, style.
