I love it! She’s having a very Oliver Twist moment. I feel like you would never see this in New York – well, Williamsburg.

I agree! although when in New York you are so surprised by some people this might be somewhat normal compared to what others might wear there.

Love this look, the photo is great!

What a lovely picture. She’s like a modern Charlie Chaplin. :)

She goes perfectly with the bike. Cute hat and backpack, and check out those pockets!
August 2, 2012 at 9:30 am
Love the boy attitude that I’m obssessed in the pop style.
unusual pants design, wonder what label they are?
August 2, 2012 at 9:31 am
Oh, I love her style :)
August 2, 2012 at 9:38 am
Apparently she’s got no spare change.
August 2, 2012 at 9:40 am
I adore this shot – Adorable, shy, an abundance of quirkiness. Fantastic
August 2, 2012 at 9:49 am
I would’ve worn different shoes. high heels… it would’ve been perfect! :)
August 2, 2012 at 10:51 pm
I don’t know, I think high heels would completely ruin this for me.
August 3, 2012 at 8:47 am
If she wore high heels with that cute urchin outfit she would have looked super silly.

Me encanto Londres, en cuanto pueda volveré a fotografiar a su gente tan underground.
August 2, 2012 at 9:57 am
Except for the modern bike and the two men in the background, this would look like early last century. Was she dressed for the Tweed Run? Wonderful!
Love her cuffs.
August 2, 2012 at 10:03 am
Crazy outfit.. but it looks so cool!
August 2, 2012 at 10:04 am
It seems you were right about the new shape of pants to come !!
August 2, 2012 at 10:08 am
I don’t like her look, its too boring although well done.
August 2, 2012 at 10:55 am
More power to her. Boring done well is hard to do!
August 3, 2012 at 8:45 am
Martin, your comment made my day.

Charles Dickens´Oliver Twist street urchin look. Love it! Wonderful bike too.

August 2, 2012 at 10:32 am
Wow! Funny outfit :) I would never ever wear something like that! But this girl looks good.
August 2, 2012 at 10:34 am
I like the expression on her face. Her pants are so funny, and what makes it even quirkier is the red handkerchief coming out of her pocket, it’s just not something you see everyday.
August 2, 2012 at 10:37 am
People from London have a weird style that you can’t see on anyone else greets from Amman
August 2, 2012 at 10:54 am
I love the bright splashes of the hankie and socks. Splashes of color are my new obsession for fall… versions of these are what i’ve been wearing as summer winds down:
For me this isn’t style – it’s a costume
August 5, 2012 at 9:37 pm
I see how it would look like a costume if it was in San Diego or Dallas but in London this isn’t even considered out of the ordinary by local standards.
August 2, 2012 at 10:59 am
He hat and trousers are so London!
August 2, 2012 at 11:02 am
she looks like bert from mary poppins, in the best way possible.
August 2, 2012 at 11:05 am
Here’s a girl that’s been watching too much Masterpiece Theatre
and BBC streaming. Isn’t that what they’re wearing in London this season?
Or she has a job dealing with the tourists.
August 2, 2012 at 1:14 pm
Darrell — if she lives in London, then why the ‘eck would she need to watch BBC streaming and how could she watch “Masterpiece Theatre”? We in London have the BBC on the actual telly, and we don’t have Masterpiece Theatre (though we do have most of the programmes that get aired in that slot in the USA).
That said — I think she looks like she might be a street performer!
August 2, 2012 at 6:28 pm
She wouldn’t. But she would have to if she lived elsewhere and planned to visit London for, say, the Olympics. The second part, a job dealing with tourists, covered the second possibility–that she’s a local. I didn’t need to explain that should could watch broadcast, cable, or satellite in that eventuality–it goes without saying. You must be a hoot at comedy clubs. And to show you that I really am familiar with London, I know that Bob really isn’t your uncle.

So London!! Loe it!!

A good look and great trousers.
August 2, 2012 at 11:13 am
This photo made me laugh, in the good way! Such character! Reminds me of Oliver Twist …. “please, sir, may I have a little bit more?” hahahah

August 2, 2012 at 11:16 am
What the Dickens ?!! super playful ensemble :-) the bike too!
August 2, 2012 at 11:22 am
very cool woman and a nice bike. i would like to have coffee with her.
Love these oversized pockets!!!
August 2, 2012 at 11:25 am
“Street urchin look” and “Chimney sweep chic” are my favorite comments. She looks fantastic and looks very much at ease with her style, so it doesn’t look costumy. It’s London, after all !
August 2, 2012 at 11:27 am
that’s a costume for some event, right? if it’s not, it’s far too sophisticated for me to appreciate. but play on playette!
August 2, 2012 at 11:33 am
August 2, 2012 at 11:34 am
The most stunning thing about this outfit for me is that she wears whatever she likes. Independent of the fashion industry and all the trends going on. http://madrilicious.com
August 2, 2012 at 11:38 am
What a stylish lady! Love the boots and socks, as well as the gorgeous bike!
August 2, 2012 at 11:45 am
We’re not sure what the rest of you are talking about, but we’re going to have to check the NO box on this one.
August 2, 2012 at 11:56 am
She looks really great with that trousers!!!
August 2, 2012 at 12:02 pm
Judging by the vintage bike and clothes, she’s going on a Tweed Ride!
August 2, 2012 at 12:12 pm
So expressive! :)
Come on, Eileen! A little Dexys Midnight Runners? Anyone? Anybody?
August 2, 2012 at 2:47 pm
Agreed ( I got clawed the last time I referenced that band).
August 2, 2012 at 9:18 pm
My thoughts exactly. So cool :)
August 2, 2012 at 12:17 pm
She has style but i wish she threw in some feminity, lose the hat wear some heels and her outfit would still work
August 2, 2012 at 12:21 pm
I am obsessed with her face! Those eyebrows…gosh!
THE STEL STYLE

August 2, 2012 at 1:07 pm
What a lovely boyish style
August 2, 2012 at 1:08 pm
Full points for effort, but this is obviously a case of trying too hard.
August 2, 2012 at 1:12 pm
Chimney Sweep Chic! Love it.

August 2, 2012 at 2:21 pm
different style nice shot
August 2, 2012 at 2:32 pm
Great picture but only in London eh?
August 2, 2012 at 2:36 pm
I did not see where this pic had been taken at first. I thought that must be paris, I just think she looks so french. Lot of talk about too costumey (is that a word :-s) If this is a costume for the Tweed run… I hope more people wear them. :)
August 2, 2012 at 2:52 pm
It’s cohesive and well-curated, but bleah … too precious precious.
The dream of the 1890s.
I MISS LONDON!!! The city taught me true style, thankyou old gal. Xx

August 2, 2012 at 7:33 pm
I love this look! Very androgynous
August 2, 2012 at 11:08 pm
she got a original style!!!
August 3, 2012 at 2:12 am
Haha! Love those pockets :)
August 3, 2012 at 4:24 am
I need a pair of these billowing pants!
August 3, 2012 at 4:57 am
I thought the whole point of this excellent blog was to show the differences between ‘style’ and ‘fashion’. This is most definitely style and not ‘costume’. She looks terrific. Characterful and individual. High heels and designer labels are not required.
August 3, 2012 at 5:14 am
She dresses like she has a life and she has stuff to do.
I hope she had a great day.
Its hard to ride a bike in a mini skirt with high heels- leave that for circus performers.
August 3, 2012 at 8:41 am
Not that hard. Those of us who go to work and other places in skirt and heels on bike are very flattered by your comment, however. Thank you.
August 3, 2012 at 6:40 am
A too French Look, Big Pants with men belts are back, another cute tomboy twist..
August 3, 2012 at 6:41 am
She also reminds me of Moulin Rouge repertoire of off-stage couture.
August 3, 2012 at 7:11 am
The pants are spectacular!
August 3, 2012 at 8:38 am
Really cute. And so comfortable. But the weather here is not permitting anything of the sort. i guess London is better off weather wise.
August 3, 2012 at 9:01 am
Note to self:
Have chimney swept!

August 3, 2012 at 9:33 am
What an adorable androgynous look! This makes me proud to be from this neck of the woods!
August 3, 2012 at 6:32 pm
I’m afraid that pants make her look too big at the hips.
August 4, 2012 at 2:17 am
She reminds me of Michelle Shocked.Love the whole outfit.
August 4, 2012 at 6:22 pm
How can she be “trying too hard” when she’s so obviously an all around consistently cool chick? Maybe if she looked out of place in her clothes, but her attitude matches her every accessory.
August 4, 2012 at 6:42 pm
The pants are back-up in case her parachute fails to open.
August 5, 2012 at 6:31 am
Ps I like this look – it has attitude
August 4, 2012 at 11:13 pm
Stokx got it correct…pants fit the bike (not a prop). She can ride it barefoot or in heels, the London Way! Humor me!
August 5, 2012 at 11:51 am
My guess; the inspiration for this look is the Dutch Boy from the paint ads! Less Oliver Twist – the haircut is an antiquated continental one, not british, and certainly not urban…
August 5, 2012 at 6:00 pm
Wow, I just fell in love!
August 5, 2012 at 6:55 pm
Everyone’s talking about her clothes but it’s her face and her hair that interest me – she looks like a portrait that Carmen Callil would’ve selected for one of the Virago covers. Strong, androgynous and self possessed.
August 6, 2012 at 1:05 am
She’s adorable. My favorite snap, lately. xx
August 6, 2012 at 8:46 am
Love this shot! Love her look and her non posey pose. Really cool and interesting.
August 22, 2012 at 2:47 am
very cool style!
