Great example of a urban yet utilitarian look. The wellies look great on her because of the skinny jeans and mile long legs.
Sart, may I ask, when you photograph your subject, do you ask them to pose in fashionably or do you give them directions? I mean, some of these photos are very editorial-ish.
to NYC Modelista I almost never give any direction on how to pose because they almost always come up with something better than I would ever have courage to ask for.
This young ladies pose is all her. As it turns out she is a stylist from Argentina so maybe she has a natural flair for the dramatic.
The only direction i give is where I want them to stand so I can get a good background and light condition but i also never want to move anyone too far from where I have stopped them.
Here in LA we’d be happy at this point for an excuse to wear our Wellies, but alas no rain in the forecast. Would that I looked nearly so chic in mine….
Seattle sends its thanks to you, Sart. I wear my puddle-stompers much more than I’m comfortable with, and was glad to see them stylishly represented on your blog.
Magnificent, Scott! Also, thank you for the explanation on how you “get” the picture.
Donina, you can order Hunter Wellies online from Smith & Hawken. Just checked and they now come in quite a few colors but the green is the best. Another brand is Aigle, made in France…got mine from Orvis. May be a little more $$ but they have a nicer finish (don’t scratch up), have been wearing better than my Hunters and are a little more tailored…if that makes sense. I only know this since I have English Springer Spaniels and one needs to look “smart” and at the same time be able to get through the muck of a muddy or snowy New England day. Best to all!
This is a great shot! She’s dressed up for an autumnal walk in the country but actually popped into Barneys to buy some lingerie (I hope). This look could so easily be totally out of place in the city but it must be the red trousers that make it really fresh – truly a classic with a twist.
just her whole stance and overall demeanor makes her someone you’d want to get to know if you simply passed her on the street. she’d be like that main character in a quirky movie with the strong screen presence that you can’t help but root for the entire way through – while all-the-while adoring her wonderful ensemble, of course.
This is a nice picture and i think the fact you have made yourself look nice while you have wellies on is something else. Nice style and look. So wellies can look fashionable.
Red skinnies make me happy. So many people admire color bursts in others but are afraid of color for themselves. GAP and American Eagle always have colored jeans in great price points…..makes for a low risk investment. I’m inspired to wear my salmon colored skinnies today. Go me!
