hmmmm, I know purple is trend color for Fall but not sure about the skinny jeans on him. to his credit, he wears it well and that asymmetric hairstyle is the finishing touch
March 22, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Maybe it’s just the look on his face, but I think he’s trying too hard.
March 22, 2007 at 7:28 pm
that shade of purple has been popping up all over town here in sunny Melbourne….but mainly on women! Interesting to see it on a man….not sure if he’s happy with himself though…

No, no–this guy’s cool as a moose. The purple leggings, which evoke pasha-wear, or totally in sync. Absolute hats off….

The thing is Sart, is that this look isn’t really anything special for NYC, its just something you don’t put up on here as much as I’d like. I wish you’d focus more on people who are trying less. Most of the people you shoot look like they got up, thought “what would the sartorialist do?” and get dressed. I guess he sort of does too, but at least it left the comb-over and vest-tie-blazer combo at home.
March 22, 2007 at 10:45 pm
for JessicaWhat may not be special for NYC may look really new to somone in Paris or Milan or Sydney and visa-versa
I would love to find lots of people who are not “trying to hard” but finding a lot of people that are effortlessly chic is a little harder than you might think.

Purple pants. hmm. He pulls them off well.
March 22, 2007 at 11:00 pm
he must be a singer? or an artist? or just simply edgy
March 22, 2007 at 11:08 pm
I wonder how much he pays the stylist living in his closet? And could someone tell how much they charge and where I can get my own! haha!

Love the man bag!! Not a fan of the color purple on him.
March 23, 2007 at 1:07 am
He looks like everyone I know, but more refined. Something along those lines…
March 23, 2007 at 1:17 am
He’s not trying too hard, he’s just from a demographic that doesn’t require stuffy, rigid confinements.
Here’s a look that represents what our age group finds edgy and fresh.. can’t get enough purple

While some ppl. might say this is a overdone or standard look, I do like his b&w shirt underneath, as well as his colorful socks. Good touches I think that take it away from just skinny pants & asymmetrical haircut.
Nice point on the subjectivity of “special” depending on one’s location around the globe though. Agreed 100%, I mean I’m only from Vancouver and while I have seen this general style done on streets here, it is still clearly very different from what you see the average person walking down the street wearing, which I appreciate and that alone is usually enough to warrant a 2nd glance from me.
March 23, 2007 at 2:32 am
like the pants, hate the hairstyle (not just on him, on anybody … including (especially?) on the TB models just above ….
March 23, 2007 at 3:32 am
andy warhol / elton john….extraordinary mix of both…i do not really really like italthough i would look around if he passed me by on the streets
March 23, 2007 at 5:11 am
i saw a punk girl wearing a combo of two tones of bright green tights and fishnets a few blocks south of there a few years ago and it marked me in some sort of extreme way. your purple-panted chap reminded me of green-tight girl and now i feel the need to dig out some funky color for today. grey+black is great, but color breathes life into spring that doesn’t seem to have sprung.

Sart, you’re gonna have to start selling these photos.
By the way, I believe your subject is perfectly turned out and a stickler for detail.

loved the purple, even more the fact that is a man wearing purple, and skinny jeans.oh,by the way,is that a man bag on the floor?really cute.
March 23, 2007 at 7:53 am
I seem to be in the minority, but I think he looks great. The type of guy I’d go for in my single days. And I love the purple, too.
March 23, 2007 at 10:34 am
That gentleman is cool. I couldn’t even imagine one day waking up and trying such an outfit, but pay attention to the details. See those socks with the yellow accompanying the purple pants? Yes he pays attention to his wardrobe and no, that’s not the same as trying too hard. The silhouette is sharp, the colors look great for him, he’s definitely created a very specific look that you can associate with certain circles but he’s done it very, very well.
March 23, 2007 at 10:49 am
I love the purple! I actually have a pair of tights in a very similar shade.

After 10 years of living in NYC and coming from Argentina, all I can say is that this guy is very stylish and looks great and edgy IN NYC, but he won´t stop the traffic…Put him in Buenos Aires, and the whole thing changes, he could be mistaken for an English singer or maybe an actor…and get lots of attention and stares on the streets!!! AND probably stop the traffic…What is normal in NYC is not always so in other places. But STYLE is internacional…
March 23, 2007 at 12:01 pm
on him, so cool. Of course, intentional! Don’t we all dress with some intention? Or else in uniform..
March 23, 2007 at 1:20 pm

March 23, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Perfect … Though in Paris, London & N.Y every 5th person looks like this these days
March 23, 2007 at 3:46 pm
wow. too cool for school. this man is brilliant. such a cool cool shot. every thing about him is perfection
March 23, 2007 at 5:22 pm
what I love best about this photo is the white grafitti over his head – it reminds me of the “I’m in a bad mood” scribble you might see over Lucy van Pelt’s head! (fits his ‘tude also)

love the picture… not so much the fashion
March 24, 2007 at 6:53 pm
He looks wonderful. I love the purple AND the hair!! Sart, the people you photograph are the reason it’s my dream to move to NYC. Love it!
March 25, 2007 at 8:35 am

March 28, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Looove the purple jeans. I almost bought a pair this week…I just love the colour so much.
March 29, 2007 at 8:38 am
the brooding. the pout. the hair. on most people it might be too much on him it’s almost intoxicating.
March 29, 2007 at 11:35 pm
I’m pretty sure this is the lead singer of the impeccable NYC band, Interpol. Paul Banks. but, then again… maybe not?

It’s weird that this guy was featured by Amy LaRocca on the Video LookBook at New York Magazine’s web-site the same day, in the same outfit, on the same doorstep. He must’ve felt pretty good about himself being approached by two style hunters—with good reason.
