The navy emsemble in the top photo is genius! The shade of each piece is exactly the same as the rest! Perfect matching and great fit! A lesson in Milanese chic!
Navy coats are so gorgeous… you can use them for more formal or unformal events just because they’re so versatile! I spent a whole winter looking for the perfect one, until I finally found it. I can’t get tired of it…
Yes, slim sleeves on men is such a fresh look, especially when the coat is left wide and “baggy.” Its a great play on fit and silhouette by being neither too skinny or too baggy, but both both at the same time.
I love how you have created a comparison between the two navy coats -both are beautiful!! And her bag is fantastic!! That would look so good on my arm…!!
I love the way you always focus on the coat’s fit… it happens the same to me and, since I’m a little short, I never get to find the perfect coat for me… and this drives me crazy because where I live there’s any taylor I could trust enough!
I really like the single colour outfits. I think one can wear a single colour from head to toe when it is a combination of different textures. Lovely pictures.
it might just be me… but he reminds me of James Dean… probably because of the hairstyle? anyways great look love the deep Navy!!
it woud be lovely to check out my blog and leave honest comments :)
Fashion really is on its last legs when we see two people in navy and we think its all the rage. They guys coat is nice, but they are a staple in London. Jumper and trousers are nice, but just nice nothing else. Shoes with the chunky sole again are nice. All in all a safe outfit.
As for the woman…boyfriend coat, boyfriend shoes!! Boring t-shirt, safe trousers! Perhaps its me but fashion should be a bit more than these plain safe pictures here…sorry…actually I take it back no apology for my honesty.
Imagine how he has to push and pull just to get that coat on. Sorry, the sleeves of the coat are too tight. I can’t tell you how much I dislike that. The idea of an overcoat (and I realise this a peacoat but let’s say it’s an overcoat) is that it should have an easy fit, especially around the arms and shoulders, so that you can slip it on over your suit-coat or sport jacket without a struggle. That does not mean “baggy” or “sloppy”, by the way.
A few plus points for choosing navy instead of black, though
Love navy, so much more attractive than all-black. Although I agree that there’s nothing revolutionary about these looks, you have to acknowledge that they look good. I also think that the length of the guy’s trousers in relation to his shoes are important to his look
I think I am going to have to be a dissenting voice on his sleeves. While I do think a slim/close fitting sleeve makes an outfit look sleek, his sleeves are clearly too tight. There is too much pulling and creasing of the fabric, and if the sleeve were just the tiniest bit wider it would eliminate that creasing, yet still give him that sleek look.
This gent is a timeless shot. Effortlessly charismatic. Well dressed but not pristine… In seventy years this image will be making a new generation envious & nostalgic. It reminds me of the instant postcards that were once popular in British seaside towns – snaps of people walking down the pier or street, smiling, on their holiday, in their best dress. The original polaroids, the original ‘on the street’. I love those images for their character and this one for the same reason.
Yep, sleeves length is something I like to be perfect too. Even if I’m 1.93 and slim, and with shirts especially sometimes it’s hard to find what I like…
I love this bag and I’ve been desperately looking for it. I don’t think the bag is a Mulberry Polly Push Lock Tote. Does anybody have any other ideas what it might be?
At first glance the fellow’s look is fetching, but like someone mentioned above, his coat looks too tight in the arms. I agree that the sleeves are a perfect length, His pants seem short too, though that is often intentional. Even though the monochromatic pallet is gorgeous, and the gentleman is handsome, the fit looks off. However, the lady looks dynamite. Her over-sized feeling of the coat really works.
He’s great looking and the jacket is terrific on him. I don’t know why navy hasn’t become the new black. I find that few people really look good in black, but most everyone looks good in navy.
Nice to see the navy peacoat make a comeback! Have an original, U.S Navy-issued one myself. I prefer it buttoned up, but on a warm spring day why not open it up…

Hers is the superior ensemble. A monochrome color palette works better with contrasting shades. Otherwise, too contrived and cartoonish.
Also, her slouchy coat and tight pants adds balance and more contrast.
He’s cute (despite pants too short IMO), but she’s cool.
