Definitely not a trend at MFW, glad to see Paris is offering new silhouettes…!

Love these looks… Great quilted vest!
March 3, 2012 at 3:25 pm
Not sure if I’ll be incorporating this one… Not so feminine or flattering…

both collections were my fav this year!!!

I really like the beige vest, it looks elegant and effortless. The extended shoulders give it some structure, which looks much nicer than the traditional vest style. Love love!

Gorgeous pants! <3

Isabel Marant really brought the perfect amount of Cowgirlness in the elegant pieces of this catwalk!
You always have very sharp and classy pictures!

Dang. I just passed up an awesome blazer at Salvation Army because I thought the shoulders were too big! Shoot, should have checked this first. ;)
March 3, 2012 at 6:26 pm
Such a wonderful new silhouette, I love the vest at Balmain.
March 3, 2012 at 6:29 pm
That looks great, Isabel Marant screams spring !
March 3, 2012 at 6:54 pm
Next thing we’ll see will be shoulder pads…
March 3, 2012 at 7:13 pm
I like this on the models, but not on me!
March 3, 2012 at 7:30 pm
Hmmmm, very 80′s. I would think you’d have to be very thin to pull this one off. Definitely not for me! (But it looks great on the runway.)
March 3, 2012 at 7:45 pm
Saw several in this style at Maison Martin Margiella NYC today, this spring’s offerings. Great layering piece.

I certainly hope we won’t be seeing more shoulder pads. But the extended shoulder vest look here is cute–not at all football player-y.
March 3, 2012 at 8:05 pm
Nice new looks, love the photos, but personally I don’t see me in these vest.

Feels like an anachronism, rather than retro-fashion.

Oh, no. The ’80′s are back!
What’s next? Will MTV start playing music videos again?

This trend is great, very edgy and biker cool. My favourite is the quilted velvet by Balmain.
March 4, 2012 at 5:00 am
I prefer the balmain!!
March 4, 2012 at 7:00 am
Love the Balmain vest ♥
March 4, 2012 at 7:10 am

The black Balmain vest is gorgeous but the size is bizarro!
March 4, 2012 at 10:51 am
I prefer this trend for summer when you can wear jackets or tops like that with shorts, I think with boots and pants it will be too masculin.
that Marant top is really cute
new outfit post
March 4, 2012 at 11:27 am
Both completely different starting points but really love it. The pants and jacket by Isabel Marant are really cute and the skirt and jacket from Balmain really tough and love that to!
March 4, 2012 at 11:55 am
Love the first photo. I could see myself wearing both outfits. Love the 80′s.
March 4, 2012 at 12:28 pm

Colors, textures, silhouettes. Is there anything these outfits DON’T have going for them?
March 5, 2012 at 1:01 am
love the whole Balmain’s collection
March 5, 2012 at 7:27 am
The Isabel Marant vest is gorgeous.
March 5, 2012 at 10:46 am
not much for the “big shoulder” thing…

Love both photos.. fantastic!

I like the Marant look, but to my eye, the Balmain vest seems clunky and awkward. As for the larger issue of styles with wider shoulders: I’m certainly no fan of shoulder pads (cue flashback of”Dynasty” theme music here), but I am always happy to see strength and confidence celebrated, and I’ll be delighted to see the end of the wispy-girlie concave-shouldered look.
March 5, 2012 at 5:03 pm
The quilted biker vest looks very cool -I think this one has trickle down possibilities. This could be worn with so much -imagine the possibilities!!

Avoid this if you have a waist! I have a small hourglass figure, and these jackets would make me look 20 lb heavier. The fabrication is good, but the cut would suit only a few people.
