other than she looks very keen to what she’s doing, she should also be in front of the camera too.

It’s indeed very gracefully. Great capture.

She is lovely ( I love her eyes) .. and I agree, a nice moment .
Miss Red Socks
Of course she’s holding her Leica like a musical instrument, it costs about as much as one. But I agree, these are very graceful, inspiring photos.
February 12, 2012 at 9:26 am
What a sweet and thoughtful post. This girl is pretty darn cute I have to say! And I love that pic where she “snaps” back at you. ;)

I love the insights you provide on this blog. It doesn’t hurt that she is extraordinarily beautiful too.
February 12, 2012 at 12:52 pm
Your observation here really connected with me. She does look as if she’s enjoying that moment and I think the fact that she’s shooting with a rangefinder makes her a certain kind of deliberate image maker.
I’m continually enjoying your blog, and particularly these kinds of posts.
February 12, 2012 at 1:03 pm
Oh you’re romantic :) . She’s so nice and her Leica is too.

Your comment is spot-on, Mr. Schuman. Thanks for sharing that moment. (And while the first photo in the series captures the spirit of your comment perfectly, the last photo is just plain spectacular–it could be a still from a vintage film.)

The camera is either an M6 or M7. The camera has an angled rewind crank, a removable base plate, and a battery cover in place of a self timer.

February 13, 2012 at 12:27 am
She looks like a young Maria Schneider
February 13, 2012 at 1:34 am
That is an M7, not a M6. As you can see from the front, if it was an M6 the words “M6 would be visible, but on an M7 (identically physically) the branding of “M7″ would be hidden by the position of her middle finder in the second and third photos.
The M6 branding says “LEICA M6″ and would be visible whereas this was changed with the M7.

She knows what she’s holding. There’s no other way to use a Leica, and of course, it’s the best complement for a beautiful girl. You were quick in this one.
February 13, 2012 at 9:00 am
Thanks! I love these photos!
February 13, 2012 at 9:26 am
wow…she’s gorgeous! so natural – both her beauty and the way she holds her instrument.

Indeed. Love the picture! She is holding her camera with passion. <3
February 13, 2012 at 10:31 am
How pretty she is, fits in well with the sort of grace and style that go with Billy Reid’s clothes.
February 13, 2012 at 11:30 am
Gorgeous girl. She does look so serene amidst the craziness.

I think it’s a Leica M7, but who cares? What a sweet girl.

I love how she doesn’t know that Scott Schuman was taking her picture because she was far more enthralled in doing what she loves to do, not trying to grab anyones attention. Beautiful! xx
February 13, 2012 at 1:01 pm
So refreshing to see this unexpectedly captured moment! She looks lovely, indeed! But the fact that you noticed it and shot it, also tells a lot about your own sensibility. Thanks for posting it!
February 13, 2012 at 1:55 pm
Thank you as always for simple features like these, I love them! Especially cool that your subject was at Billy Reid, a designer whose aesthetic I particularly admire for both men’s & women’s fashion alike… He’s supposed to be opening a store here in DC soon, his customers can’t wait!

I love Billy Reid – his simple, casual style and luxurious fabrics are impeccable!
February 13, 2012 at 2:56 pm
Did anyone notice she looks through the viewfinder with her left eye? She’s able to keep both eyes open while working. Great way to be aware of all that’s going on around her. Technique not exclusive to combat photography. Lovely photos.
February 13, 2012 at 3:51 pm
And her Leica is almost, almost as pretty as she is.
February 13, 2012 at 4:04 pm
Love the photos. This girl definitely would have caught my eye even in a room full of models and fashionistas. She is beautiful no doubt about it, but it does make me laugh when people say “she’s beautiful even without wearing any makeup” when she clearly has makeup on.
February 13, 2012 at 4:44 pm

peaceful…elegant…creative…and knowing. that is what i see when i look at her….you don’t need to be like everyone…become yourself and I think that is what she has done…she has become her ownself….
February 13, 2012 at 6:41 pm
Wonderful and A Leica makes the moment captivating…
February 14, 2012 at 12:03 am
Doesn’t hurt that she is amazingly beautiful, of course, but yes, you are right. The intent look on her face is very appealing.

anyone will look good holding a camera thats worth ten grand…
February 15, 2012 at 11:52 am
hmmm…Its a range finder camera Leica M6 – 35mm lens – she is not holding it to right eye. She has it to her left, which kind of defeats the purpose. But if it makes you happy…
February 17, 2012 at 4:21 pm
Simply beautiful. Simply.

@ Daniel , Well perhaps her left eye is better than her right one and that’s why she uses her left. I am that very way. It’s not nice of you to think that it “defeats the purpose” as if it were due to ignorance or something. I wish I could use my right eye for photography, ceratocone won’t let me. But regardless of this comment (and my answer!), this is a very inspiring blog post.
