The photo projects: Middle age creeping on this man, losing hair; some wits and most of his teeth and–dammit, he can finally indulge in something that really gets the old juices flowing. The Awakening During the Second Act of Life: I get it–me and my Z28 Camaro ragtop.
Photography is such a beautiful thing. Back in the day people needed ‘occasions’ to get photographed and two of the main were ‘purchasing the family car’ and death. I wonder if he just got the car of his dreams and if that car is now being taken care of by his grandson. I hope so!
I’d love to know the story behind this picture. My father and my grandfather both own an Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite (the car) just like the one in this picture. Of course, theirs are in slightly better condition and have left hand drive for America. I absolutely love when my two favorite things: cars and fashionable people come together. What a great find.
My father used to come home with an assortment of cars– a Fiat 128, a Volvo Sport and a Volvo Canadian, a Rambler of all things. His first car was co-owned, a Bugatti. He used it to pick up women in before he married my mother. Men and their cars…
This is a picture of my Dad in 1969, pictured in Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland. He was a mechanic and owned the bug-eyed sprite he’s seen sitting on. The cars in the background are others he was fixing at the time. I hope you like the picture as much as i do.
What a great old photograph. I’d love to take a ride in that car! The gentleman is so casual yet stylish, seems like there was and is a whole (don’t like to use this word) class or group of people that pull off this effortless style. I adore them. I do my best, but I think the word money is entangled in this effortless style deal.
