this guy is really sharp. nice shot. i just like the overall impression, without being overly impressed with any one item. i dont think the shape of his glasses really do his face any favors. something smaller and more interesting would put this guy over the top. but he is really impressive.

On the contrary, I think those frames help complete his ‘hip’ late 60′s jazz look. he looks like he belongs on stage with miles davis or art blakey! I wish i were that cool…

I dig this alot! This is what makes this blog so great, an example of how to look stylish on daily basis. I get the impression this is an everyday kind of guy. none of his garments look like they could be exhorbitantly expensive. real style for real people. the glasses i think are whimsical and great they add a little funk the whole look, which has a jazzy (the shoes, fedora) modish (piped polo, slim pants) feel. slick!

Love this look, proper cool.I personally like the Cazal type glasses, gives a nice old school touch that fits in well with this look.
June 14, 2007 at 9:24 am
I dig it too. THIS is the New York I love.
June 14, 2007 at 9:49 am
Ohh love him. Very chic and has a kind of cool prof look, very Left Bank Paris! Very stylish. Also interesting it is a kind of no-season/all-season attire. The hat, the glasses, jacket, shoes, top, pants a perfect ensemble.

Sart, sometime you should check out Philadelphia’s African American men-on-the-street for the finest summertime dressing this side of Munich. Dapper straw hats, pressed (but relaxed) linen shirts and shorts, and the right shoes make for some impressive sightings. Philly has great style.

seemingly effortless style.. I like when people just “fit” what they’re wearing.
June 14, 2007 at 10:07 am
It’s fine, I could do without seeing jokey glasses on anyone ever again, though.
June 14, 2007 at 10:11 am
Thelonious Monk redux! Soft pine-dark green over that blue with white piping. That’s as bold and unexpected as a cluster chord, and every bit as cool.
June 14, 2007 at 10:53 am
sart, i think your blog has done more to advance the cause of wearing hats (and riding bicycles, probably) than any ad campaign or fashion show could possibly have achieved!
June 14, 2007 at 10:56 am
Now that is one cool guy. I agree about the shoes- they add that final finger snap!
June 14, 2007 at 11:05 am
everything is perfect. nothing else to say…

I think the word is “hep”. Nicely done…I hope he plays some type of instrument to back up the look.
June 14, 2007 at 12:00 pm
Lovely. Sexy. Smart. Interesting. Flattering. Perfect.
June 14, 2007 at 12:17 pm
For me, what really makes this work is the contrast of textures–muted softness of the felt hat and the (velvet?) jacket and the shirt, glossy hardness of the patent leather shoes. Nicely done–I wish I could mix casual and elegant so well.

I agree with Zachary. This is the kind of observation designers should make. So everyday in its simplicity, yet perfectly put toghether. Very well done sir!

Is he the singer from TV on the Radio? They’re from Brooklyn. The style sense is consistent, and the charisma that comes through in this pic reminds me of that singer…
June 14, 2007 at 2:14 pm
Now THAT’S New York. Superb!
June 14, 2007 at 2:17 pm
How does he manage to make that polo shirt look so cool?
June 14, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I agree with -b. He looks like he belongs on a Blue Note album cover. Very cool. He’s the envy of the ball.
June 14, 2007 at 3:44 pm
coolest cat in town? probably. Argh, I just love the dark hues he used. ooh, the pose. yes. Even the facial grooming is perfect, for him.
June 14, 2007 at 3:53 pm
that’s Beans! he’s been an important (and always stylish) part of New York’ progressive underground Hip Hop scene for over 10 years.
June 14, 2007 at 4:06 pm
He’s so cool I want to slap him for the unfairness of it all.
Don’t know if he tried to dress this way on purpose, but it works for him.
June 14, 2007 at 4:09 pm
I wish I could wear a hat like that. Very cool.
June 14, 2007 at 5:08 pm
now that’s not fashion, that’s STYLE
June 14, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Love the classy hat~!
June 14, 2007 at 7:58 pm
at first glance his style screamed (with joy and passion like a tvotr concert):
lead singer, tv on the radio!
whether we are both correct remains a mystery.

June 14, 2007 at 9:28 pm
you have to stop and take a good look at him to actually appreciate how well put-together his outfit is.. I agree with the shoes..
June 14, 2007 at 10:50 pm

It’s not Tunde from TVOTR-but he has a similar funky elegance. Photos like this are exactly why I check out the Sartorialist every day!

June 18, 2007 at 2:57 pm
This is my men Michael Olu from London! When you are interessted in the essence of style then you just found at least one substance of it! He’s the founder and director of the Kilimanjaro magazine. Check it out on http://www.kilimag.com

One of my all time favourites! The shiny shoes are an amazing contrast to the corduroy jacket. Glasses remind me of those Ezekiel glasses. He simply manages to look causal and chic at the same time. And not in that way of opening an extra button on your shirt… great!
June 26, 2007 at 4:39 pm
oh wow this guy looks so well put together without any effort!
July 19, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Wonderful shot. Every single piece is great, but together it’s unbeatable. I especially love that hat.
