Love the colours. This fellow, though dashing, does exhibit one of the difficulties with looking cool whilst wearing a cross-shoulder bag: the Shirt Ride-Up. Any thoughts on how to avoid that without having to tuck in? I love the utility of my bag, but don’t feel particularly suave tugging at my hem as I walk.
i see this guy all over the west village – who is he? he always is perfectly put-together and looks as if he is going to or just came from somewhere i want to be.
particularly like the belt, not feeling the shoes – they seem a bit out of season w/ the white shorts? they should be more for a transitional look perhaps?
This is the first time I’ve actually liked those silly embroidered pants in an outfit. Chopping them off at the knees shows a sort of subversive disregard for their precious preppiness.
of course it’s the one day he isn’t wearing his Rafe bag but I love the orange Buddhist bag anyway and love it against the yellow. always love mixing a little bit of East with a litte bit of West.
I think that this shows the importance of an accessory on a guy (usually forgotten)- take another look and imagine him without the orange bag and its quite J.Crew( oh hum) the bag gives the look the punch.
Nice! I had a smaller sized similar bag from Adidas-same color and style! I love the orange+yellow combination, yet I’m not that crazy about the pattern on his shorts. The shoes also seem mismatched – sneakers or sandals should be so much better suited to this fun color combination!
This is great! Love the idea of hand-shortening WASPy patterned trousers (at least, that’s what I think he’s done); and the bag, shoes and color combos….
i totally agree with the ppl who think the shoes are off. i too was expecting sneakers. other than that, i love it. the things on his pants are little tennis rackets, right? weird :)
I love this look! Very nice colours. The tennis racket print cut-offs and dirty bucks (worn w/o socks) are a nice touch. The shirt is very yellow. This guy has a great haircut! I can’t find any fault with this look. But, what is that odd orange thing around his shoulder? Is that a man-bag? Say it ain’t so.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the style of his shoes…it’s the color of them. The taupy grayish color of the shoes is throwing off the warm shades of orange and yellow in his summer outfit. Otherwise, a very happy combo.
This really is a great outfit for careless summer days. If only bag was in some different color or at least in pale version of orange. Call me too conventional but I just can’t find any good reason for orange to be a part of wardrobe.
Love the pictures of the Hamptons. When I was a child I use to spend my summers in Southampton. (mid 50′s – mid 60′s) My grandmother had a beautiful home on Hill Street. The house was sold early 70′s. Southampton was so quiet then, not like the crowds today. Remember riding to beach with my cousins on our bikes and then swimming in a neighbors pool afterwards. (I miss my childhood!) Great memories!!
hi, new here. i think the outfit is cute. men should start wearing more color. there’s a world of color out there other than blue, brown, black, blue, blue, blue. hehe :)
The look reminds me of something I would see on a college campus, especially in California. I’m not so thrilled with the color scheme of orangs bag with a yellow shirt. It’s definitely a summertime look. Overall for someone under 30 with a laid back personality it’s a cool casual look
I think Anonymous who just clarified which brands this guy is wearing is the guy on the photo. Thanks for telling us you don’t wear J.Crew, that would be too common for you. Unfortunately, it does look like J.Crew, not that that is a bad thing. Not everyone can afford “Purple Label”.
This guy looks great! And who cares what labels he’s wearing?!! Why would anyone be a snob about Polo RL or J Crew? Polo and J Crew are both derived from the classic WASP/preppy look. They’re both knock-offs. And there’s nothing wrong with that. If you want the real thing, check out J Press.
i love the shoes – dirty bucks – as a preppy s**tbag, I can recognize them a mile off. They go perfectly with the outfit – this is a classic example of sprezzatura!
Ward, right? He belongs on that best-dressed list of yours, too. I don’t even care what he’s wearing, green label, purple label, he looks fabulous. I am astounded that people find fault (same with the girl in the white dress). And I need that orange bag.
i’ve waltzed with this man at the opera in paris. we’ve tipped our hats on madison avenue. we’ve tortured taxi drivers in barbados, we’ve sailed the virgin islands and bosphorus together and we’ve dreamed big at the mark. so where he gets his inimitable style? take one guess…
true style is prefaced by the word “life”….wherever you go you own the look that you are living. this guy is owning it. would love to see what he wears on a rainy day – i am sure it include the perfect umbrella.
It’s hilarious that J Crew is being criticized for stealing from the ‘original’ Mr. Lauren. Lauren does wonderful things, but he is nothing if not derivative. Whether it’s J Press, Brooks Brothers or Savile Row, Lauren got all of his good ideas from them. That’s not to knock RL, but he did not invent the Hamptons look.

Is this our Gatsby friend of the bookstore from last year (or was it earlier this year)?
There’s a lot going on here but if he’s trying to hang onto summer with this colour and emblem usage, then he’s winning.

Unfortunately you all have been fooled! This is NOT J Crew it is Ralph Lauren! (Purple Label and Blue Label)
Tisk Tisk J Crew for once again knocking off RL’s classic style…has anyone seen the horse belt or patched wool jacket for fall?!
not to mention, by looking at him and his past outfits on the Sartorialist clearly he does not mess around by wearing trickle down fashion :)
