I think he pulls off the cardigan quite well. Those clunkers on his feet however… not sure how I feel about them aesthetically.
Then again, the outfit is obviously well thought-out and the glasses do bring it all together, clunkers included, without which maybe it would all just look out of place.
What? No. Absolutely not.

Wonderful photo, it looks like a faux background! I love the outfitt, it is so unexpected!
August 21, 2007 at 9:50 am
arr this reminds me of a movie, but i cant remember what one :D i love his cardigan, and his hair. one of a kind’
August 21, 2007 at 10:02 am
Very original, and he looks completely at ease.
August 21, 2007 at 10:13 am
He looks like he just got out of bed, oversized, dingy-looking v-neck shirt and everything. The sequined cardigan looks awkward to me…
August 21, 2007 at 10:20 am
someone’s having fun–love the curls!
August 21, 2007 at 10:26 am
Outfit is hot…especially since it contrasts so greatly with the environment! BUT THE HAIR!!! YIKES!!! Is he trying to look like a gay muppet?
August 21, 2007 at 10:29 am
I just love those Berhard Willhelm shoes! Wicked!

let’s face it Sart: you are suffering from a bad case of Stockholm syndrome. anything even mildly off-kilter you find out there looks like solid gold fashion genius to you. the brokeback mountain guys. the hippie girl. the whatever sequin weirdo. okay, we get the point, Sweden is quirky, but please change destination soon. maybe Mozambique? thank you, have a great time.
August 21, 2007 at 10:43 am
Not sure how I feel about this. I thought he was a girl at first.
August 21, 2007 at 10:45 am
what the hell…?!men+fahsion= YESbut this guy…
August 21, 2007 at 10:57 am
My goodness the swede’s are defo. my favourite…yum
August 21, 2007 at 11:04 am
i want that cardigan
August 21, 2007 at 11:06 am
Straight out of bed, young man?….and the only cardigan he could find was his grandmas’. Funny!
August 21, 2007 at 11:27 am
LOVE IT! saw him in the crowd of a fashion show and i fell in love with the cardigan…
August 21, 2007 at 11:34 am
keep your pants on – I will soon be in NYC, Milan, Paris and possibly London and later in the year, China
New York in August is very unenjoyable place – very hot and humid so this Stockholm break was a nice break before the big European tour.
Original? A great majority of guys in Stockholm look like this.
August 21, 2007 at 12:27 pm
Cute and effortlessly cool. It’s interesting that although he’s wearing a glittery sweater, it doesn’t stand out as being outrageous on him. All that really stands out is his cool, slouchy attitude and attire.
Hey, Mr. Sartorialist:
I’ve really been enjoying your Stockholm pictures. This guy looks great as well. He’s got that sullen young Dylan look, updated to a new century.
August 21, 2007 at 12:38 pm
ciafrommilan, take your pants off! That kid is cute! If my daughter wanted to date him, I’d say yep… love his quirky style. Not for me nowadays, but I’ve got at least 20 years on him… but once wore clothing which emphasized odd scales and textures too.

Boy George redux?
August 21, 2007 at 1:15 pm
Sart, I live in Sweden, but when I come to STHLM I never seem to spot those quirky guys you see :-)
Anyway, my first thought was that he’s got to be a dancer! The shoes, his legs, well, just about everything!
August 21, 2007 at 2:08 pm
He looks like he just stepped down from a runway, where his would look great. But on the street? I’m not so sure this works.
August 21, 2007 at 2:31 pm
This look could easily be too much. And I know some people do in fact think it’s too much. But the subtlety of the color palette really makes this look for me. From the color of his hair to the silver cardy to the white vest atop black pants & accessories, it’s goes ‘out there’ but never oversteps the bounds of good taste. The shape isn’t for everyone, but he pulls it off because you can tell he’s having fun.
August 21, 2007 at 2:48 pm
Sexy legs! But that is all.
August 21, 2007 at 2:55 pm
PS — Look at the calves on this kid! Definetly a classical ballet dancer.
August 21, 2007 at 3:52 pm
This is wonderful in every way…audacious in the best sense and yet strangely but effectively right and lived-in.
This guy understands that it’s all about playing disparate elements off one one another.
August 21, 2007 at 3:53 pm
He’s certainly experimenting. I don’t know how much it’s a finished “successful” look in my book, but it’s inventive.
August 21, 2007 at 4:06 pm
Looks like a “gay Muppet,” Edofnyc? Putting aside that this might be a redundant characterization–what’s wrong-er with looking that way than looking like a straight Muppet?(Actually, Moppets, like angels, have no sex…)
And Anon 10:36, the “brokeback mountain guys”? Your code phrase for gay guys dressing Western: what’s the problem with that?
Not trying to be the PC police, but….
August 21, 2007 at 4:26 pm
I can´t believe people leave (trying to insult) comments about sexual orientation based in a physical characteristic:
edohnyc said…BUT THE HAIR!!! YIKES!!! Is he trying to look like a gay muppet? 10:26 AM
(I am really upset, especially being a muppet myself)
August 21, 2007 at 4:38 pm
I absolutely adore the cardigan. I agree with winst about the dubious aethetics of the ‘shoes’ combined with the rest out of the outfit. All in all i love the top half.
August 21, 2007 at 5:07 pm
We sure are welldressed here in Sweden.
August 21, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Humm…..I am not sure about this shot…
August 21, 2007 at 5:53 pm
I love it. What a smile it put on my face. It takes me back to my youth in the East Village circa 1980 when I would wear black mini-dresses with a back down to THERE and men’s black combat boots. Rock on. And the background is just killer. What an eye you have!

Very refreshing to see him after the overwhelming neatness of the Stock-hommes up until this point!

Surely we all remember Luc Besson’s great film Subway from 1985, with Christopher Lambert as Fred. This is Fred’s son…

nice – reminds me of both patrick wolf and hedi slimane, but i’m not so sure about those shoes with that outfit.
August 21, 2007 at 10:48 pm
This reminds me of what I think was the best look from Men’s Fashion Week S/S 08: Christopher Bailey’s gold-sequined jacket for Burberry Prorsum.Pure style.

Sart,Ooh…China. Can’t wait to see your girls on bikes–sans helmet–pictures.

I? Am in LOVE! Lovelovelove.
Agree though that the shoe part could be better; like between the ankle and the sock is less than perfectly scaled/balanced.
Still, I wouldn’t kick him outta bed for eating Rykrisp.
August 22, 2007 at 1:28 am
Muppets have no sex?? Seems no one has told poor Miss Piggy (she of the female gender, I believe)!
Is a reference to Brokeback Mountain necessarily homonegatative?
August 22, 2007 at 4:10 am
i don’t think this works very well. i don’t mind the idea of a sequined cardigan…but i think it’s the pattern that makes it look cheap….compared to say the Burberry sequined knits that were out a season or two ago.or maybe a neater tshirt would have done the job..?
August 22, 2007 at 7:01 am
he looks great … the cardigan makes the outfit – it’s pretty glam with the contrast of the plain dingy t-shirt … pretty effortless. the cardigan is def vintage but harks back to what christopher bailey showed at burberry a few seasons back – love it.

Are you for real?
*in Meryl Streep voice channeling Anna Wintour*: “No no, that was not a question”.

I believe the movie anonymous was thinking of is weekend at bernies.
August 22, 2007 at 5:11 pm
It looks to me as an homage to Jeff Buckley… anyone sees this too?
August 22, 2007 at 10:12 pm
I agree with the no votes. It does nothing for me.
August 23, 2007 at 8:47 am
reminds me of the kurt cobain pic of him in a leopard coat.
August 23, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Pushes my thinking past my regular limits. At first glance ridiculous, yet very inspirational. Sart, you lead the way!
August 23, 2007 at 6:07 pm
Love it for the ugly/beautiful thing. Makes me pine for my misspent ’80s youth.
August 27, 2007 at 4:07 am
love it love it love iti m ALL ABOUT sequins now and to see them on a guy…totaly FRESH!i applaud him!

I’v got exactly the same, bought by my father in Paris during his honeymoon late in the seventies. It’s a “Lanvin”. Sarto, do you think I can wear it this fall with no matters? Thanks.
August 27, 2007 at 1:32 pm
the last photo reminds me of a photo of a young boy dressed as a girl from an old editorial in W magazine with Kate Moss
August 27, 2007 at 9:23 pm
This is totally genius. The proportions are all right including the shoes and that bag. I love the fit of the shirt. He made baggy fit his body.
The best part about this outfit is that the gorgeous sequined cardigan is about my fifth favorite aspect.
