Everything about this is just perfect. I’d love to know who makes that leather jacket.
October 6, 2012 at 4:26 pm
His name is Arashi Yanagawa, the designer of a Japanese brand called John Lawrence Sullivan. He is wearing JLS head to toe.
November 10, 2011 at 4:10 pm
I love his look and especially those speckled pants.

There are definitely quite a few textures and shades of black there. He’s also wearing his leather jacket under his coat!

wow.This is so fine…
Very cool pants!
November 10, 2011 at 4:24 pm
The different textures my this outfit stand out and not seem like a drab head to toe black outfit. It gives it life.
rigtht fit, right silhouette, right accessories- to perfect for my own liking
November 10, 2011 at 4:27 pm
I wish I could see more men dressed like this.
In Brazil they’re all a little bit boring. What a waste!
November 10, 2011 at 4:32 pm
Mmm yes, interesting outfit… Great trousers, by the way!
November 10, 2011 at 4:33 pm

November 10, 2011 at 4:37 pm
I agree! A very subtle statement
November 10, 2011 at 4:38 pm
The textured wool perfectly offsets his edgy jacket– so on point!
….on top of texture on top of texture on top of texture… :)

I agree. I see too many all black ensembles in the winter and they can be quite depressing. Mixing it up with texture is great!
November 10, 2011 at 4:57 pm
Love the pants and the inner jacket!
November 10, 2011 at 5:14 pm
WOW so many textures, the outfit is really rich and sophisticated while being completely monochrome. That’s a real style lesson there !
November 10, 2011 at 5:21 pm
TWO coats?! Double haute.
November 10, 2011 at 5:23 pm
Absolute cool hair!
November 10, 2011 at 5:27 pm
I am not sure why, but love that he has the leather jacket under the wool coat. Something about the layering. I don´t seem to be able to put a finger on it. Maybe it´s because I can feel by looking at the outfit´s comfortable to have on, or something about the sensation of the wool coat sliding on the smooth leather when he moves.
November 10, 2011 at 5:33 pm
Love! Texture is how to make all black modern.
November 10, 2011 at 5:43 pm
Thats an enormously strong look…
November 10, 2011 at 5:47 pm
I agree, those all those textures of black make for a unique and interesting outfit. I love the speckled pants!

all those who say black on black can be boring or too safe don’t know how to play with textures.
November 10, 2011 at 6:16 pm
It’s incredible the way you can spice up a completely monochromatic look with a few different textures.
Beautiful camera shot as well.

This is an incredible ensemble. So many interesting things going on. He has great taste.
November 10, 2011 at 6:25 pm
I wonder how that outfit would look on a fifty five year old man?

November 10, 2011 at 6:35 pm
fun mix of elements!
November 10, 2011 at 6:54 pm
Love those pants!
November 10, 2011 at 7:01 pm
most definately a texturally reliant ensemble…it highlghts his fair complexion effortlessly.
the most intirguing feature of this however (for me at the very least), is the use of angular shapes within the block textures. The sharp lapel of his coat, the embossing of the leather jacket, the bottom of his trousers being rolled up and the detailing of the shoes. It works very cohesively with his hairstyle, and the composition itself.
November 10, 2011 at 7:03 pm
I love all how all the different texture work together to make this all black look more interesting
November 10, 2011 at 7:40 pm
it is always hard to match blacks, i guess this is the perfect solution
November 10, 2011 at 8:00 pm
love the different textures. it makes the outfit look so edgy!
November 10, 2011 at 8:11 pm
I love the all-black outfits of this guy.. the detail of the leather jacket is stunning.. and also his pants! suit him well! Blazer goes outside a leather jacket.. never thought of that but cool idea in this case. :) Texture on top of texture indeed.
November 10, 2011 at 8:14 pm
So beautiful! My ideal outfit of layered, textured black. I would wear this same look with slightly tighter pants.
November 10, 2011 at 8:27 pm
What a cool guy. This is the designer of the japanese brand JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN! He’s always wearing his own brand apart from those shoes I think.
November 10, 2011 at 8:47 pm
inspired. cant wait to experiment layering leather jacket under coat myself.
Also, the length of his trousers is so perfect!

November 10, 2011 at 8:53 pm
Definitely true. The way he’s wearing all these different textures, they pass for different colors. Great outfit and I love how confident he looks in it.

Ah, I love this look! I wrote a post about how to wear all black without looking blah back in July. ( http://ellequinn.yolasite.com/stories/is-anything-but-black-the-new-black- ) This guy nailed it!

The rolled-up trousers are key to unifying the proportions.
Why?The coat, the jacket, the trousers and the socks.
It’s a 4/4 beat of texture, so to speak.
And the exposed socks add another descending gradient of texture.
November 10, 2011 at 11:29 pm
Creative and refined. I never liked fussy/matte or speckled fabrics but I learn something new… compliment sleek/sheen and get a wonderful look!

November 11, 2011 at 12:49 am
I know texture is the point here, but I’d like this better with a classic motorcycle jacket. Still, I’m digging his creativity and flair!
November 11, 2011 at 2:12 am
Amen. how ever said black was boring, love it!
November 11, 2011 at 4:30 am
This ensemble takes my breath away!

November 11, 2011 at 6:46 am
I love the inner jacket. The textures are fantastic.
November 11, 2011 at 6:57 am
I hate the pants!!!
November 11, 2011 at 6:59 am
very strong…..but the proportion is a little stiff..pant should be longer and wider
November 11, 2011 at 8:31 am
girls should take note and replicate.
November 11, 2011 at 8:49 am
Amazing and inspiring.
November 11, 2011 at 9:45 am

this Outfit is so amazing!
I love every single piece!

I’d love to see this exact look on a woman….it is so subtle and exquisite, how could it not work?
BTW, Sart, I think you are absolutely KILLING IT lately! Every photo seems to capture unique and true style, not just fashion.
November 11, 2011 at 11:44 am
Very Very cool. I like the layering.
November 11, 2011 at 12:30 pm
Diggin’ the leather jacket.

Un chic type! Et quelle présence!
Un bel exemple de style personnel, juste et maîtrisé. Que ferait-on sans les Japonais?
Vivement la prochaine histoire avec Arashi Yanagawa!
November 12, 2011 at 10:31 am
Texture makes the all black look so polished and rugged.

That is so cool!

That is definitely an interesting pile-up of textures — Variations on the Theme of Black. I do love the perforations and details on the leather jackets. There’s something a bit Edward Scissorhands about it (I’m still recovering from Halloween).
November 12, 2011 at 4:34 pm
November 12, 2011 at 6:32 pm
love the look he layered several same black with different textures
November 12, 2011 at 9:39 pm
The overcoat, pants, socks and shoes are fine, but that leather jacket is not working for me It commands too much attention on a look that, overall, should work on subtlety to impress. The jacket is just attention-getting and annoying.
November 13, 2011 at 7:32 am
Some people just have it all down pat.
November 13, 2011 at 8:26 am
Everyone is loving those trousers! Anybody have any idea who they’re by?
November 13, 2011 at 9:04 am
Really love the combination of the leather jacket under the overcoat. It combines two completely different styles in one, and I can pretty much say it excites me as an idea. The pants have a beautiful texture, and I would just love to go buy them for myself, which pretty much sounds weird, but oh, what can I do? I m not the type of person that wears a lot of black, I dont even have many clothes that are black, I prefer earthy and really bright and live colors, but this outfit, I just adore!
November 13, 2011 at 11:16 am
LOve the jacket under the coat, and his pants. Good look.
November 13, 2011 at 11:35 am
What interesting layering! Really great.
November 13, 2011 at 3:28 pm
10000% YES for melange! I love how it adds this laid-out look to a smart outfit! So cool!

Arashi is always looking sharp! Fucking love this set and his brand John Lawrence Sullivan!
November 19, 2011 at 7:20 pm
I love how the speckled pattern from his coat is resonant in his pants! ;) Madly in love with the jacket! <3…I love when men pay attention to detail!! :)…LOVE THIS SITE!!!!
November 20, 2011 at 7:25 am
Great outfit. Leather jacket a bit too sleek for my liking, but excellent comination nevertheless. Inspired me to try some new combination and bring new life to existing wardrobe items.
Trousers are Dries van Noten I think, coat could be as well…

OMG! I really love his outfit. I don’t know where he got those pants from but they are to die for. This is what I live for. Men taking risks and experimenting with fashion. A totally unique look can be created just by playing with the texture of the outfit. The leather top only strengthens the uniqueness of his look. I hope when I become older that this is what I will dress like!
