love the mix of cute & edgy …very unique to Tokyo.

Super cute stylings, but what is the aversion to brows that the Japanese have?
Booth boys and girls. Brows are like glasses, they make the face of a person.
Just a shadow of a brow takes away that. Why spend so much time on looks if it fades the “you” that you want to express?
November 16, 2011 at 8:33 pm
I love the haircuts and the mismatch earrings, especially the cherries.
November 16, 2011 at 8:41 pm
i was just in tokyo last week and the style there truly amazed me. nearly everyone’s was so unique and interesting from the way they dressed to their hair and accessories! love these images!

interesting hair… did the first one cut it herself?
November 16, 2011 at 9:21 pm
Cutest cheeks ever! And I love those earrings!
November 16, 2011 at 9:31 pm
The thing that jumps out to me are the single dramatic earrings that these women are wearing.
And the fact that these portraits are beautifully done.

The Japanese are very adventurous when it comes to Fashion, which is quite interesting for a culture that is so inward looking and critical of itself. Perhaps, Fashion then plays a role of providing people with an outlet to actually be themselves. One of the most intriguing thing I find about their concept of “beauty”, especially among young adults, is the appreciation of imperfect teeth. Imperfect teeth – protruding canines, in particular – is perceived to be cute and unique.

I love her look!

umm…. I like the blonde but who cut the browns hair?? (and who was her dentist)
November 16, 2011 at 10:07 pm
Absolutely stunning people and photos. Love both of them!
November 16, 2011 at 10:34 pm
I can’t really get on board with the asymmetrical fringe too much, but I really like how unexpected their earrings are! That’s cute! Only the Japanese could pull this off and look simultaneously cool and cute.

This is amazing work. The image of the dark-haired girl with the images behind her is particularly arresting.

what an intriguing style, i wonder if it will make its way to the states.

Such individual style….great photos. Melinda
Winged Lips for Winged Lids
Love it that the blonde has pursed her lips in a way so that it mirrors her kohled and “winged” lids.
The giant cherry earring on the side adds a nice dose of fun to the picture.
As an Asian, I know that she is not considered a beauty by her peers but she sure has style. Which is arguably better.
Their makeup purposely accentuates and exaggerates their slanted eyes. They like it. Beautiful pictures.
November 17, 2011 at 12:20 am
I love these portraits- and both their earrings are so striking! Lovely photos.
November 17, 2011 at 12:50 am
Incredible faces. Love the way these young ladies play with simple make up, efficient hair cut and lovely kawai earings.
I love these photos and the video which explain the process used to shoot the first girl.

They look like two little pixies!
I love the one-dangle-earing look.
I like how the blonde girly has paired the feminine cherry earring with masculine scull studs, perfect contrast.
November 17, 2011 at 1:46 am
Really cute girls and earrings! Very colorful!
Like the slide change from the blonde girl to the brown girl! Love the contrast!
November 17, 2011 at 1:56 am

LOVE these haircuts. So tomboyish and just a bit off from being a perfect Beatles cut. Japanese take on a classic.

I love pixie haircuts, it’s just so chic and stylish and the color is the icing on the cake. I would love it if you checked out my blog, I have interesting fashion posts you might love to read.

These images are so fun, I love the rosy cheeks — looking natural in the top photo, and applied in the bottom one.

Japanese are always so original… also in science (I’m a medical resercher and they always come out with some extraordinary idea)!
The Life After
November 17, 2011 at 12:53 pm
My favorite thing is actually all those smaller silver earrings on the first girl – really cool.
November 17, 2011 at 1:28 pm
The smile of the first lady is way deformed by botox. And I could never really get why japanese dye their hair blonde, it looks unnatural and…well, just awful.
I like the haircuts and the earrings, though.
November 17, 2011 at 1:56 pm
Ah, there may be a use for my solo dangly earring, after all. Although the flying solo single-earring-look of the two pixies in these beautiful photographs carries much whimsy, my own preference is for a matched pair of dangly earrings.

November 17, 2011 at 6:34 pm
Very cute hair cuts! Lovely skin. Fantastic smile.
November 18, 2011 at 12:34 am
the lack of eyebrows really bugs me
November 18, 2011 at 12:53 am
What’s up with the half brows. Great cut and color, but without brows the faces look fake
antique engagement rings

Love the earrings!
November 18, 2011 at 8:54 am
love the hear style .
November 18, 2011 at 9:43 am
What beautiful earings..so fresh and funny! :)
November 18, 2011 at 4:01 pm
i love the individuality of these ladies and especially the cherry. it reminds of my high school years in the 80s. The blonde has very peculiar mouth though.
November 18, 2011 at 10:27 pm
I dig the blonde’s look. The other girl’s hair is unbelievably unflattering though I get that she’s both edgy and cute. Such a pretty face – I hope she grows that haircut out.
November 19, 2011 at 3:09 am
Love that lovely earrings! So colorful :D

And why not have a crooked bowl cut!
