October 22, 2011 at 9:44 am
OMG! They were born to be together!
October 22, 2011 at 9:47 am
This couple share life and same taste about fashion.

October 22, 2011 at 10:17 am
A couple that dresses together stays together? :)
October 22, 2011 at 10:21 am
I love this pic! all the colors work together so well… I think it is so cute that they both have rolled pant-legs! and they have super cool hats..
What a cool couple – she has the cutest face and is rocking that pillbox hat. Love the old skool camera too!

So funny, so little, so stylish, so Asia.

October 22, 2011 at 10:27 am
they remind me of dolls, too much.
October 22, 2011 at 10:34 am
What I adore about this shot: the gray stone block wall is the perfect backdrop for the colors the couple is wearing. How they listen to one another’s style with the type of shoes and rolled up pants and wearing hats. How their occupations or hobbies are evident. How she stares at the camera and he looks down, in a rather timid fashion. And the compliments of blue jeans and blue book and denim vest….wow…how you capture it all Mr. Schuman, is simply awesome. Thank you for filling my everyday with wonderful images.
October 22, 2011 at 10:36 am
They are very cute together. And the photo is fantastic.
October 22, 2011 at 10:37 am
Love the wide proportions! These two look great together!
October 22, 2011 at 10:42 am
Love, love, love the old fashioned style here. They look like they stepped out of a movie.
October 22, 2011 at 10:43 am
I just love Asian style. They look fabulous.
Enjoy your weekend
October 22, 2011 at 10:46 am

Beats the Kooples! Spaghetti Western meets bohemia. Love.
October 22, 2011 at 10:52 am
Such a sweet photo – Really like this! I don’t think I’d EVER be able to pull off those pants, however… I’d look massive!
this is not fashion, this is style and Individuality!
October 22, 2011 at 11:24 am
Love people who dresses who dress with a lot of references. The flowers and the denim vest is the best.
October 22, 2011 at 11:40 am
Scott, it would be very cool if a reader could flag their favorite photos to return to … creating a personal library. This photo would definitely go in mine. Thanks you for all your great work.
October 22, 2011 at 11:46 am
It’s incredible: two amish Japaneses! Never seen! And by the way, the know the true meaning of the word style. Love them

October 22, 2011 at 11:49 am
Everything about this is beautiful. I can never figure out how to make a pair of looser jeans look good and this is great “how to” inspiration.
October 22, 2011 at 12:02 pm
I like their look.
October 22, 2011 at 12:22 pm
Sart, request please intermingle more mainstream style whats with the circus on display lately?
August 31, 2012 at 12:18 pm
Hmmm… what IS “mainstream” style? Can’t you find that just about anywhere for yourself? I think Scott’s job is to show us the unusual so that we can be inspired and adapt it to our particular being. I don’t always like it either but it always gives me something to think about.
October 22, 2011 at 12:39 pm
They look like some has forgotten to tell them their time it’s over, not in a mean way but, they look like someone from the past, that’s what I wanted to say :D in a positive way!

OMG, I can’t close my mouth!
It was a while since I was this speechless.
You’re awesome :)
October 22, 2011 at 1:08 pm
I’m betting those are his pants, they are adorable.. Love their funky eclectic style..
October 22, 2011 at 1:15 pm
they look like they are from a different era. i like that they are dressed in the same style. they compliment each other well. she looks confident and strong and he seems shy but they look very comfortable in their element.
October 22, 2011 at 1:19 pm
Interesting photo! They really do dress like one another. I used to dress up all the time, but after I started dating my current boyfriend, his slouchy, I-don’t-really-care-what-I-wear style rubbed off on me…
October 22, 2011 at 1:22 pm
I loved the pants! =)
October 22, 2011 at 1:59 pm
I really like her hat.
October 22, 2011 at 2:10 pm
Interesting and different. How do the wide leg trousers stay rolled? Cellotape/pins/gum?
October 22, 2011 at 2:18 pm
a style all their own…
October 22, 2011 at 2:26 pm
It’s Halloween in Paris already?
October 22, 2011 at 2:49 pm
Wacky winners all. She has great shoes.
October 22, 2011 at 3:01 pm

October 22, 2011 at 3:07 pm
Fabuleuse photo ! Really stunning !
October 22, 2011 at 3:33 pm
love everything but her shirt. everything else is great and conjures up notions of them as thinker, writers, smarties…very cool people.
October 22, 2011 at 3:34 pm
wait, is that “book” actually a purse? love it!
October 22, 2011 at 4:10 pm

October 22, 2011 at 4:55 pm
Is this TK from Silly Thing ?
October 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm
Thank you Junya Watanabe. Thank you Kawakubo Rei. Thank you Kurihara Tao. Thank you Yohji Yamamoto. And of course thank you Issey Miyake. The work of these great artists continues to percolate through world fashion culture, inspiring so many of us, of whatever ethnicity or nationality we may be.
October 22, 2011 at 5:18 pm
Is that a book…bag?
I think it’s her purse. Cute.
October 22, 2011 at 5:23 pm
I like the composition of the colours in this picture but it looks as if the boy is getting very tired of all this fashion fuss.
Greetings from Amsterdam.
October 22, 2011 at 5:41 pm
Great shot; it looks like he has a nice Leica?
October 22, 2011 at 5:53 pm
Circus? Wow. They look like a normal, well dressed, adorable Japanese couple to me. It’s all perspective…learn to appreciate others’ more “eccentric” expression through fashion.
October 22, 2011 at 6:34 pm
They are awesome!!! I wonder what book is she carrying around Paris. Looks like a pretty thick one….
October 22, 2011 at 7:51 pm
Love how the male of the species wears the pretty colours.
October 22, 2011 at 7:59 pm
so unique! great style! and her mxi pants are fab!

October 22, 2011 at 8:12 pm
This is so NOT circus. This is STYLE.
Lovely Japanese palette. Her wide pants! Solid shoes that she can actually walk in.
October 22, 2011 at 8:18 pm
Wow, I like how sweet and determined they both look. It’s been awhile since I felt that way.
October 22, 2011 at 8:28 pm
These two match each other so well!!!!
There’s something really appealing about that delicate blouse paired with those parachute pants.
October 22, 2011 at 8:36 pm
Such a great hat! I love the juxtaposition of such a feminine top half against the masculine bottom half of her outfit.
October 22, 2011 at 8:40 pm
They are kind of an abstraction of Carla and Beppe (see below).
Marcel Da Chump
October 22, 2011 at 8:52 pm
I actually think they’re mismatched, sartorially at least.
Their aesthetics are polar opposites.
Her presentation–austere, minimal.
His look–busy, overplayed.
The energy from this clash of sensibilties
makes for an engaging photograph, however.
The background just seals the deal, pictorially.
October 22, 2011 at 8:58 pm
that blouse is so lovely!
October 22, 2011 at 9:03 pm
wonder if they’re intentional with their outfits. great looks.
October 22, 2011 at 9:49 pm
This is cute! Love the hats, and all the little details on their outfits.
October 22, 2011 at 10:05 pm
These two are exquisite, especially her! Thanks for shaking things up these last few days and offering us some genuine non-comformists. It’s so uplifting to see unique beauty – I love that we finally celebrate the weird and wonderful in October.
October 22, 2011 at 10:29 pm
oh what a pair!

I love this! The book purse, the pillbox hat! The…everything.
October 23, 2011 at 1:59 am
My all time have picture and couple here. The Japanese are on another level in expressing themselves through clothing and accessories and kit.
October 23, 2011 at 2:03 am
awww I love it
they are sooo sweet and I love love love what she is wearing
une chatte grise
October 23, 2011 at 2:29 am
What I find interesting is that while they do have very different aesthetics, they’re actually wearing 2 different versions of exactly the same outfit. Going from bottom to top: Both are wearing simple black lace-ups, loose-fitting pants rolled up with big cuffs, untucked white shirts w/a vest or vest effect, neck accessories, and black hats. The way they manage to be both perfectly in sync and utterly different is what I find wonderful here. (Well, her expression and little hat help too.) And I’ll bet the combination of their clashing and according sensibilities makes them a really interesting couple.
October 23, 2011 at 2:58 am
It is very interesting photo! they are very original!
October 23, 2011 at 5:08 am
I like the style and the colours. It’s a perfectly matched couple.
They even matched to the background!! Nice shot.
October 23, 2011 at 5:46 am
I love it. Vintage. very laid back.. I didn’t put any thought into this outfit kind of thing.. Stylish at the same time.

October 23, 2011 at 1:00 pm
lwow! They look so cool!
October 23, 2011 at 1:03 pm
Great picture xxxx
October 23, 2011 at 1:27 pm
TK & Cice from China actually, not Japan I think haha!
Interesting how people automatically assume fashionable Asians must be Japanese. Much like Westerners dressed in black must be French, those wearing a muted palette and patterns Italian and the simple yet edgy ones have to be Scandinavians?
October 23, 2011 at 2:54 pm
I love this photo! He is so johnnt Dep!!

October 24, 2011 at 8:36 am
The fellow reminds me of Foujita. Paris in the ’20s. The lady – a bit too close to an organ grinder monkey.

They are both too cool to be cool. Leica, box hat, worker pants and pearls. Just too much too be stylish… Sorry to say it…
Cice or Chiling? Perhaps neither
October 24, 2011 at 11:13 am
As an Asian female, I have to admit that I am nonplussed here.
This lady looks like Cice Li or an older version of the taiwanese goddess Lin Chiling. Not Lin herself because this is definitely not her style.
Asian ladies can and do look alike (with makeup on).
But I digress.
They are a lovely pair. From a parallel universe, perhaps. Quite otherworldly. Perhaps she has a wand in her book purse. You figure?
October 24, 2011 at 12:11 pm
Actually, they come from HONG KONG neither JAPAN nor MAINLAND CHINA!! And the guy is very rich people
October 24, 2011 at 9:57 pm

Thanks for your inspiration….
October 25, 2011 at 12:16 am
Just about the most adorable couple I’ve ever seen.
October 25, 2011 at 11:31 am
True style is timeless–or, is it so full of time, of historical references, that it is at home in any place, any time?
This couple exudes style from head to toe. Thanks!!!
October 25, 2011 at 4:55 pm
October 25, 2011 at 11:37 pm
I love the two of them, but especially her look, especially the insouciant way she has her wide trousers cuffed. If they were narrower there wouldn’t be a look for me, except for the hat. I’m 67 and I’m going to try a variation on this combination around my area. Talk about teaching your grandmother to suck eggs.
