I love the entire look! The dress, the bag, the nails, the flats – the colour of the dress…
September 25, 2011 at 6:08 pm
Love this pic! The cut is fabulous
September 25, 2011 at 6:10 pm
it’s a military???
September 25, 2011 at 6:12 pm
What a wonderfully determined stride. Looks almost like a human lambda or a Laban effort, I’d say the ‘press’ (acting students’ll dig that).
September 25, 2011 at 6:16 pm
Artificial and very unflattering, in my opinion. I just cannot understand this.
Greetings from Amsterdam.
September 25, 2011 at 6:21 pm
Wow, she makes that dress look so casual and effortless! Not an easy task…Love the matching nails and casual hairstyle too.
September 25, 2011 at 6:27 pm
Love the shape of that dress and it’s the perfect color for her. It’s nice to see that she isn’t tottering about on platform high heels.
wow! amazing dress! <3 a bit haute couture? :)
September 25, 2011 at 6:29 pm
I think my favorite part of this dress is the little blue folded triangles on the back pleats. It reminds me of a piece of origami — structural and precisely folded. And the shade of blue is just right.
September 25, 2011 at 6:31 pm
That is comPLEATly precious!!
September 25, 2011 at 6:32 pm
September 25, 2011 at 6:34 pm
Simply beautiful. I have no other words to describe this picture! It’s a beautiful shot of such a beautiful dress!

September 25, 2011 at 6:40 pm
omg this is the most amazing dress.
September 25, 2011 at 6:41 pm
The dress is really interesting. It would be nice to see a front shot of it to truly understand how the pleading is done. The color is very cool though!

Amazing Amazing Amazing!
So clean and beautiful.
Also, oddly enough, I love the manila envelope.
September 25, 2011 at 6:55 pm
So artfully structured and architectural
Gorgeous shade of blue.
September 25, 2011 at 6:57 pm
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the pleats and the subtly sexy cutout.

Does anyone just walk anymore? Why does the nose always have to be in a phone? Aside from that, love the dress.

Great dress. Loved it!
September 25, 2011 at 7:11 pm
It seems like she was almost posing for you.. No one walks with their arm that far back..
September 25, 2011 at 7:13 pm
I like this shot very much !
September 25, 2011 at 7:20 pm
That dress is incredible. All of that complexion and then a pair of sandals! Strikingly beautiful.
Beauty in blue!
September 25, 2011 at 7:21 pm
The silhouette is reminiscent to McQueens 2010 line.
September 25, 2011 at 7:36 pm
I love the pleats. So chic!!
September 25, 2011 at 7:38 pm
Looks like a blue box, albeit one with a pretty handbag.
September 25, 2011 at 7:43 pm
Love the dress! so original! and great motion shot!
September 25, 2011 at 7:47 pm

September 25, 2011 at 7:58 pm
I just love this dress. So architectural!
September 25, 2011 at 8:12 pm
Such a perfect look! I really love the interesting pleat details on her dress, plus it’s a great colour for her.
September 25, 2011 at 8:29 pm
Oh Steve, what A shot!!! So simple, so pure. LOVE IT!

wow, I love this picture! The dress is so beautiful!
September 25, 2011 at 9:08 pm
This is one of the best images/looks I have ever seen. Well, well done. And thank you for posting it.
September 25, 2011 at 9:30 pm
The structure of the dress is stunning! So architectural and creative.
I love this shade of blue. It really enlights this lady’s skin tone and her pale blonde hair!
September 25, 2011 at 9:31 pm
September 25, 2011 at 9:36 pm
Gorgeous detail and colour. Amazing construction…
September 25, 2011 at 9:37 pm
It’s an interesting dress, shows off her delicate body structure. Although… I wouldn’t wear it. Seems, uh, too odd. Although what I mean by that when I’ve looked at the recent photos of other fashion shows, I guess it seems not quite thought out.
September 25, 2011 at 9:38 pm
Damn, after “London color, London” i thought I’d have to flush you out for good. Thou art REDEEMED. Stay sharp like this, SS.
September 25, 2011 at 9:43 pm
love this shot, so cute and on-the-go
September 25, 2011 at 9:46 pm
Everything’s just perfect in this picture!
September 25, 2011 at 9:50 pm
I know people are liking this dress, but to me, it looks like an unfinished piece and rather awkward. Perhaps if I seen the front I would have a different opinion. The color is nice.
September 25, 2011 at 9:53 pm
beautiful dress! the cutouts aren’t too showy, it has a very unique shape, and the color is so pretty.
September 25, 2011 at 10:07 pm
wow that dress is amazing! i love that she’s paired it with flats too
September 25, 2011 at 10:26 pm
jane keltner de la valle? Loooove everything..that dress shape is so not common and to pair with simple flats? Die!
September 25, 2011 at 10:34 pm
Thank you, FABULOUS Citizen, for decorating our streets with your walking beauty. You are pure art.
September 25, 2011 at 10:44 pm
Yesssssss!!!! Yesssssss!!!! Beyond incredible!!
September 25, 2011 at 10:48 pm
there is something stunning about this dress. the color and the pleating are really amazing. but my favorite part might be the shoes… saying goodbye to sandals is so hard to do.
up and coming fashionista
September 25, 2011 at 11:07 pm
This is a statement dress. It’s cut out, the amazing pleats, the gorgeous confidence that she radiates. Her sleek, chic, hair gathered into a imperfect bun – it’s amazing. Great photo.
September 25, 2011 at 11:16 pm
I am going against the grain here: she is literally a walking curtain.
This is definitely “out of the box” but it doesn’t work for me.
I love the way she has bunned her hair in that casual way though. Classy lady, save for the above.
September 25, 2011 at 11:23 pm
The construction of the dress is kinda weird, but I like it. Also the color goes really well with her pale skin. Overall what a fabulous look :)
September 25, 2011 at 11:25 pm
i dont like it, beautiful dress and beautiful color and beautiful girl but it drowns her. she is too petite for it
September 25, 2011 at 11:37 pm
Does anyone know who makes this dress? Completely agree with the above comments – the cut is brilliant.
La Petite Marmoset
September 26, 2011 at 12:06 am
I love the subtle cutout!
September 26, 2011 at 12:26 am
Terrific palette and lines, love the way her extremities all work together.
The Fancy Teacup
September 26, 2011 at 12:39 am
The cut-out detail in that fit & flare dress are remarkable!
September 26, 2011 at 12:56 am
Work of art. And the shoes are so minimal!
September 26, 2011 at 1:08 am
It’s architecture meets art meets fashion! And that cobalt blue is so gorgeous.
September 26, 2011 at 1:32 am
Err.. I think she looks like she went for a fitting to the tailors and left without removing the dress!!
Need to know
September 26, 2011 at 1:37 am
Who made this beautiful dress???
September 26, 2011 at 1:43 am
This woman is very sexy.
September 26, 2011 at 1:54 am
i lovelovelove the dress!
September 26, 2011 at 2:22 am
Beautiful dress ! I love how she wears it in such a casual way, eventhough it is such a glamourous dress

Her profile is somehow the perfect echo of the dress.
September 26, 2011 at 3:01 am
Amazing dress! I love this style!
September 26, 2011 at 4:18 am
The dress is stunning with those small cutouts on the sides and with the waistline… I love it that everything else is extremely simple to keep the focus on the dress!
September 26, 2011 at 6:05 am
Runway chic on the street, great look!
September 26, 2011 at 6:57 am
One of a kind. I dare say she was made for that dress and it was made for her.
September 26, 2011 at 7:10 am
Wow what a beautiful dress!
September 26, 2011 at 7:15 am
This one looks like she pulled old, pleated curtains from the 60s down and redid them as a dress. I understand the urge, since those upholstry fabrics are often to die for. The way the top is cut, though, makes the whole thing work. Miraculous, really.
September 26, 2011 at 7:24 am
September 26, 2011 at 7:35 am
A beautifully cut dress. The colour works so well with her own colouring and the simple flats are perfect.
September 26, 2011 at 8:32 am
This is so cool. So architectural.
September 26, 2011 at 8:37 am
Interesting dress, beautiful color, and she makes it look so easy and summery. I do love the flat sandals and casual bun. I think this is a great summer-in-the-city look.
September 26, 2011 at 9:34 am
weird dress but she looks perfect!
come to visit my blog
September 26, 2011 at 9:37 am
The dress; so elegant, extravagant, and stunning electric blue!
September 26, 2011 at 9:56 am
love the insouciance with which she pulls off this incredible dress. all else so simple and clean. perfect! love your blog-your photos are amazing… my new favorite addiction. thanks!
September 26, 2011 at 10:05 am
Chic and extremely artful dress with simple hair and sandals. Perfection.
September 26, 2011 at 10:16 am
The dress is so cool! Very structured very different!! Really cool. I like how it looks like its poping out or something
September 26, 2011 at 10:18 am
That dress looks perfect on her.
September 26, 2011 at 10:19 am
I love the structure of the dress! And the fact that a Teen Vogue editor is wearing flats!
September 26, 2011 at 10:38 am
Love that blue. My art studio is near Lincoln Center, so now I am beside myself wondering if I might spot the Sartorialist nearby and see what the Sartorialist is wearing! I will have to be on the lookout for photographers photographing sartorialist things!
September 26, 2011 at 10:41 am
love the color but the dress itself looks like an unfinished school project
Except for the ubiquituous Zombie Generation trait of staring at a phone rather than at all the life surrounding them.
Good thing Mr. Sart isn’t one or this site wouldn’t exist.
September 26, 2011 at 11:07 am
Very nice creation. I totaly approve this kind of art. Bravo !
September 26, 2011 at 11:36 am
NICE..and love the fact she’s in flats….looks effortless and sooo unique
vintage engagement rings
September 26, 2011 at 11:38 am
I love this casual look!
September 26, 2011 at 11:44 am
Sorry but I am not a fan of that dress. It looks like she’s wearing a barrel. I agree the color is very nice, though.
September 26, 2011 at 11:45 am
The top attached to the skirt isn’t new – that’s been around for ever. But I love the buttons containing the bulk of the skirt instead of it being gathered into a waistband. And the material is nice.
November 2, 2016 at 11:52 pm
Yeah…top attached to skirt is called a dress. Not new. Thank you for telling us….
September 26, 2011 at 11:51 am
love her confident stride and everything else apart from the dress..i somehow don’t get it..seems unfinished
September 26, 2011 at 12:17 pm
GORGEOUS dress. Love how it is constructed. And the color is fabulous too.
September 26, 2011 at 12:32 pm
Funny, I wore a similar dress in black on a date this weekend. It had little cut-outs at the side offering my date an opportunity he couldn’t pass up…
It’s just an open invitation to tickle, this dress… wonder if she had a welcome tickle too????
September 26, 2011 at 12:37 pm
So chic, I love this look . Handsome dress & bag
September 26, 2011 at 12:50 pm
few people would have the body shape (skinny, no curves) and the attitude to be able to wear a dress with hard wide pleats at the hips but this women does it with ease. She truly wear and embodies the dress rather than the other way around. it would horrible on most women but it looks amazing on her.
September 26, 2011 at 2:13 pm
the lines of her outfit are really interesting. it’s simple but strong. her hair looks perfectly balanced with all the other lines in her dress, bag, sandals and is she holding an envelope?
September 26, 2011 at 2:38 pm
Love the composition and the colors in this photograph!
Ashley at The I on Fashion
September 26, 2011 at 2:49 pm
This is probably the most detailed, structured dress that I’ve ever seen – actually worn by someone on the street. And I like it.

I love the dress on her. The colors: her hair, the dress, her nails.
A shoe maker can make a quick stitch so the backs of her sandals stay up. And it won’t change the comfort level.
September 26, 2011 at 3:37 pm
Beautiful dress! Who is it by? I want it!!

This dress is from Thakoon Pre-Spring 11!
September 26, 2011 at 5:01 pm
perfect after a pizza pie or that time of the month. kidding. she looks amazing. but you need to be a beanpole to pull off a structured dress like that.
September 26, 2011 at 5:29 pm
It’s amazing how she makes such a striking dress look casual. Fantastic.
September 26, 2011 at 5:33 pm
September 26, 2011 at 6:35 pm
Now, that’s brilliant.
September 26, 2011 at 6:57 pm
Too bad she’s facing the wrong way…
September 26, 2011 at 10:40 pm
Where do I find those sandals?! Love them!
September 26, 2011 at 10:47 pm
Love the pic so fashionable dress, I like the solid color with little design on it. Keep it up!

I can’t decide what is more perfect; the dress, or the picture. Agree @ M. How does she make that very exotic dress look so casual? Freakin’ perfect.
September 27, 2011 at 12:54 am
voah!her dress is stunning!simple n chique.

Looks like she wrapped a pleated curtain around herself. Guess this goes to show if you pair a pretty girl with a great photographer, you can dress her in almost anything and people will still love it!
September 27, 2011 at 9:15 am
A style triumph!! Everything about this look works for me. From the architecture of the dress to her choice of accessories and the footwear is so unexpected and darling + she has a great stride. New Yorkers are waaaaay stylish :-)

September 27, 2011 at 10:56 am
Very few people can wear a dress like that – it’s very architectural, almost like a costume. She wears it beautifully.
September 27, 2011 at 1:01 pm
This is the sort of dress that might cause me to have a spectacular meltdown before I even had the chance of walking out the door. What shoes? Jewelry? Hair? To cardigan or not to cardigan? And yet, I’m quite certain this young lady plucked it out of her closet and tossed it on over her undies, whipped her hair into a knot, threw her bag over her shoulder and sauntered out the door. It’s such an extravagant dress, but she’s wearing it so simply, to a delightful result.
February 16, 2013 at 5:53 pm
Truer words were never spoken!
September 27, 2011 at 1:32 pm
so cute! love this.
September 27, 2011 at 1:58 pm
Just, that dress…!!!
September 27, 2011 at 2:54 pm
She saw it in the window and couldn’t resist. Seriously, the skirt looks like chopped off curtains. I’m flashing back to Went with the Wind
September 27, 2011 at 4:08 pm
One has to be skinny as a stick, with no visible curves to wear that dress. As she is! Looks great on her but probably many clothes do not.
September 27, 2011 at 4:40 pm
whoa, beautiful, I like her ‘pose’ too, looking very casual but busy at the same time.
September 28, 2011 at 12:23 am
Who wants to make their hips look wider?? I have to say, I hate this dress. I love the hair and the simple shoes, but the dress is so bulky at the worst area. To me, it is not flattering.
devil's in the detail
September 28, 2011 at 5:28 am
wow, the detailing in that dress is stunning!
September 28, 2011 at 7:37 am
Fabulous dress, simple yet elegant!
September 28, 2011 at 7:42 am
i love the pleating detail, i want a copy! :)
September 28, 2011 at 11:28 am
I love her stride – love the shoes, the origami dress, the hairdo, her nose, black nails, the whole look is wearable and original, yet not weird.
Isn’t it great when you haven’t visited this awesome blog in a few days, and there’s a whole bunch of great looks just waiting for you? Thx, Mr. Sartorialist.
September 28, 2011 at 5:29 pm
September 29, 2011 at 10:09 pm
Does anyone know who’s the dress designer?
September 30, 2011 at 3:22 pm
It’s a great dress, the structural quality really adds something unique and amazing. And surprisingly despite those very structured elements, it feels like it moves. Can’t beat that.
September 30, 2011 at 4:06 pm
I think the idea of the dress is lovely but the pleats aren’t pulled together correctly in my opinion. They’re too heavy and deliberate. Like a few people said before she is a bit of a “walking curtain”. Maybe if it was a different fabric? The cut outs in the waistline are beautiful and if nothing else she definitely carries herself well. I almost think she could be wearing a trashbag and still seem like she’s draped in couture.
September 30, 2011 at 11:04 pm
Adore, adore, adore. The definition of “statement” and worn on the street apparently quite comfortably. Not a flattering shape but one that shocks the eye, and that is what moving fashion forward is all about.

I never would have thought to wear a dress like that so casually! It looks fantastic! The royal blue with the blonde hair is perfect.

Looks like a Bryce Black design.
October 5, 2011 at 8:06 am
wow. that’s a statement.
