September 22, 2011 at 4:50 pm
the humour that is essential to all great styles
September 22, 2011 at 4:51 pm
One more thing to worry about besides for helmet hair. Coordinating the helmet to the plaid sportcoat.
September 22, 2011 at 5:04 pm
i lived in italy for some time and i miss it dearly. from the quaint deli, cafe and pastry shops to the various types of transportation (especially the scooters) thanks for the memory lane.

I am a “girl” and drive motorbikes and scooters since I was 17. I am now 49, I am a university teacher, I have a Ph.D., I have always had a car, no matter, I still LOVE to drive my scooter and my moto. I would never give up the sensation of freedom, speed and, yes, I must confess, added power of attraction, that I get driving even my 125 cc. Honda scooter. It’s a big advantage. I never change my way of dressing because of it. Yes, I wear tiny shorts, light tea dresses, miniskirts with nice moto ankle boots, ballerinas, high heels, everything that pleases me. And I don’t give a damn about helmet hair (I have straight thin long hair, anyway…). I have a very nice Aprilia Moto (650 cc.), designed by Philip Stark, orange and silver (silver helmet, always), and a more practical silver grey scooter that I drive with my Momo Design aubergine helmet: great colour. So,you girls go get your moto driving licence!

The Sartorialist’s eye
in his helmet, I see–
he’s not so far,
in front of that white car.
There’s also a house, a tree
and a deep blue sky.

They manage to be ridiculously cute and quite elegant at the same time. And that’s a tough balance to pull off.

September 23, 2011 at 4:52 am
The secret is NOT matching the helmet with your dress…. it’s matching your helmet with your scooter..!! Believe me… I have a black scooter and 2 black and black/white helmets..

“Apparently, the key to looking good on a scooter (or bike, for that matter) is to coordinate your helmet with whatever suit you are wearing that day.”
I guess this is why so many bikers wear black helmets with
btw, gloves were once a major fashion accessory for both men
and women…and should still be for bicyclists and motorcyclists. Yet neither of these dudes is wearing any :-(

They coordinated not only their outfit and helmet colors, but also their bike colors!!! So I guess the key is to have several bikes of different color ;-)

In Milan, Rome, Florence, Genoa and Turin, the .fashion is to have “thin anchovy” scooters which are able to stay in very “anchovy” parking places….
September 26, 2011 at 3:45 am
wearing a safe, working helmet should be a little more important than coordinating its color with suit or scooter.
the helmet the first guy is wearing is banned in italy.
September 27, 2011 at 11:30 am
Love that Italian style! I’m interested to see the leg cover on the ‘cool blue’ photo – you see a lot of those in London and Paris nowadays.
September 28, 2011 at 6:05 pm
Coordinate helmet color with what you are wearing is just “bimbo” (portuguese expression for no style at all).
September 29, 2011 at 11:23 am
oh my. I’m in love with the man in the first photo.
